And that's why Kelly technically has "songwriting credit' for "Hook Up" - because she changed the line, haha ... now we can all see how easy it is for Britney and Miley to get co-writing credits... oh wait! (I'm kidding, btw... so relax everyone!)

I don't care what anyone says. This song is a Katy Perry song and it shows. It's like her name is plastered all over this. It sounds like it was tailored to another artist and then given to Kelly. Most of her songs on this album sound like that because All I Ever Wanted doesn't sound like a Clarkson record. It plays like a compilation of other singers material.

Same here lol. I wanted the "keep your thing in your pants" line in there, but I don't think it would've sounded "right" coming from Kelly. Still LOVE this song, and Kelly's version BY FAR. The more I listen to this, the more I love it. Kelly knows better than to alienate her huge lesbian following - I am glad she changed the lyrics. "Keep your clit in your pants" sounds good.

Two of Kelly's biggest hits were written by her contemporaries ('Miss Independent' and 'Breakaway'). She has the ability to take a song written for/by another artist and elevate the material past what they could have done with it. It doesn't matter that this is a Katy Perry song. Kelly did an awesome job with it and made it into a Kelly Clarkson song. If it makes a better single than something that sounds more "Kelly" than so be it. She obviously doesn't mind (and has stated how much she like Katy) so why should you?

I finally heard this and I love it! So much fun. This song, and the entire album for that matter, is Kelly through and through. I do hear various influences of other artists here and there but it is all purely Kelly. I love her attitude as always and I like that we're seeing a fun, lighter Kelly this time around. I can imagine this song being a fan favorite in concerts for sure.

I personally think this sounds very Kelly, but on the other hand, Long Shot to me SCREAMS KP, instead of KC. No worries though, that's not the single!

Two of Kelly's biggest hits were written by her contemporaries ('Miss Independent' and 'Breakaway'). I don't think any of those songs are as memorable as SUBG, BOY or BTHE which all have that signature Kelly sound to them. This album though sounds like it was made for various other artists there is material on there that sounds like it was created for artists like P!nk, Katy, Beyonce, Ashlee, Miley and Hilary. I don't agree. I feel like this song would have the same effect if Katy sang it with all the bells and whistles Dr. Luke puts with most of his songs. Except she didn't. It still sounds and smacks of a Katy Perry b-side. It doesn't sound better though. Atleast not to me. I think Kelly's BA, MD and Thankful songs all sound better and more like her then any of the material on AIEW.

Sounds like Kelly Clarkson to me too! And it's going to be another hit for her.

I do have to agree that this still does sound too much like a Katy Perry song. MI and SUBG may have originally been intended for others as well, but the big difference was they didn't sound exactly like any one particular artist's song, like this one does. But I have warmed up to the song quite a bit, and I do think Kelly will have a hit with it. Not a huge one, but a decent sized one. I will always think of Katy Perry when I hear this song though.

There's a general connection with Katy and I Do Not Hook Up online. Luckily the general public won't have that connection so it will be related with Kelly and only Kelly! haha

Katy did write on the song, so obviously her influence will be there, but I think a lot this stems from the fact that Katy's demo is on the internet. If it wasn't, then people wouldn't have anything to compare it to. JMO anyways.

I think I probably wouldn't have as strong of a Katy association with it if I had never heard her demo.

I like this song but it totally sounds like a Katy Perry song, and I don't see how anyone can deny that...lol. I actually thought MLWSWY sounded kinda like a Katy Perry song too.
But, I'm sure it'll be another hit for her, so it really doesn't matter who it sounds like. The general public won't be all "it sounds like a Katy song!!!".

She didn't, but she wrote the song so obviously it's going to sound a little like her. It's really not a big deal...

True they won't know that, but I can hear some of the general public saying, "this kinda sounds like a Katy Perry song" or something to that extent. I don't think it will have any effect on how this song performs though, so that's the important thing.

Lol I made a prediction in another post that broken records would be going for many artists. Get used to it because it will happen on every page of every topic of every Kelly thread for the entire era. Like, page 80 of Part Two of Single five? Same stuff being said And, to a certain extent if it is respectful it is ok to me. I would rather have the same things repeated than drown out other opinions :)

Is there something wrong with a Katy Perry association? She's obviously doing something right if she's had two consecutive top 3 peaking singles on Billboard.. I don't know why it's such a big deal.

I dont think the casual listener will think Katy Perry if you didnt hear the Katy Perry version I dont think youd think the two sounded alike.

I have yet to hear the demo and honestly I really don't hear any KP similiarities. Perhaps those who do hear things that Katy uses in her style, but, at the end of the day, may have been inspired by KC in the first place, which is why I hear KC and others KP
