Based on the Mediabase audience number for Kiss A Girl (1.92 mill, all since Monday) that Under The Radar provided on the Mediabase Country Updates thread, it looks like this is headed for a debut in the same range that Sweet Thing debuted at (#30 on 11/22/08). If that 1.92 mill after three days translates to around 4 mill for the full week on Billboard, that would have slotted him in at #33 on the 3/21/09 chart, between Dierks Bentley and Craig Morgan. Assuming Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, and Jack Ingram are going recurrent next week (and no other songs can get over that 4 mill mark, like Toby's new one), that could get him up to #30 for a debut. And there's a slight chance that Toby's God Love Her could go recurrent based on spins as well, meaning a #29 debut for Kiss A Girl.

I always thought most of Keith's songs were just "okay", but I'm really liking this one. I think it has adult contemporary/hot adult contemporary crossover potential.

I got the #29 debut for Keith right, but probably not in the method I was expecting. I didn't foresee the plunge of John Michael over the weekend, which probably accounted for the additional open space for Keith to move up instead of Toby going recurrent due to spins. Or maybe Billboard gave Ingram a "grace week", keeping him on and taking Toby off. But I'm glad to see I haven't lost too much of a knack for predicting these big debuts for the superstars...

The word that comes to mind with Defying Gravity so far is "sticky." As in sacharine. Or bubble gum. Not diggin' these last two.

"Sweet Thing" is cute and rather charming, but this is just lethargic. Keith needs to start broadening his theme beyond the usual boy-girl-relationship stuff.

I like both the singles and "I'm In" that was released on Itunes yesterday. It took me a second to recognize that one, but the Kinleys released it years ago. I also really like the song Nashville Narc had posted last week. I forget the title now but it was rocking! The new CD sounds a bit more generic than the last album which was pretty complex and different to me but it's upbeat so far and I like all I've heard. Can't wait to hear the rest each day on Ilike on facebook.

I like this song a lot. It will sound good on the radio as the weather starts to warm up. I liked "Sweet Thing" well enough, but something about it didn't grab me like many of his other songs do. It's interesting that after nothing from the last album hit #1, Keith has the opportunity to make it four in a row with this song (I'd be surprised if he didn't, actually). I know the landscape of radio has changed since Keith's last album, with all of the 1-2 week stays at #1, but it's a nice turnaround nonetheless.
I'm interested in hearing Keith's version of "I'm In" - I thought The Kinleys' version was quite good, though I haven't heard it in quite some time.

It took me a second to recognize that one, but the Kinleys released it years ago. ...as did Radney Foster and Abra Moore in 1998. Shame that I've lost both my copies of See What You Want to See, which also has Radney's version of "Raining on Sunday", with backing vocals from Darius Rucker. I think we may have a new game here. Six degrees of Darius Rucker.

Thought I would share this Rolling Stone review of Defying Gravity:
Keith Urban plays it so safe on Defying Gravity, you'd think he got a musical lobotomy when he went to rehab. The album depicts an idyllic America, where young'uns suffer innocent heartache like so many Fifties teenagers. There's no economic crisis, no war and only one track ("Thank You") that hints at his marriage to Nicole Kidman and his highly publicized relapse. Instead, we get couples kissin' on a porch swing ("Sweet Thing"), a dusty old boardwalk (" 'Til Summer Comes Around") and slick guitar solos that are ready–made for the arenas. If this wasn't the same guy who put out the ambitious Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing three years ago, you could blame Nashville. But Urban has proved that he's capable of much better.
2 out of 5 stars.

This really does sound like a good album from that review. I don't want anything on any CD that has to do with the "economic crisis" or "war", even though that's what that review is complaining about, the lack thereof.
It sounds like it'll be an enjoyable, easy listening album with nothing too serious or depressing. Can't wait!

I enjoyed some of the deeper songs on LP&TWCT, but Keith is at his best when he's singing fun songs like Sweet Thing, You Look Good In My Shirt, and Days Go By. I do like to see his other side, so this album may be a tiny letdown (Be Here had some terrific ballads on it), but I'm still really looking forward to it.

I loved "Sweet Thing" but this isn't doing much for me (even after multiple listens).

Didn't this debut at #3 on the callout chart? Hard to believe. I enjoy the song a little if I don't hear it too often, but it's not nearly as good as all the songs he's released since the weak Once In A Lifetime.
Should be an easy #1, though. And even weak Urban is better than most of what is played.

And even weak Urban is better than most of what is played. I think he made a mistake by releasing two fluffy songs in a row. "Sweet Thing" was pure ear candy, and so is this one. This one is just barely saved by an engaging melody and even more engaging vocalist. (For the record, I liked "Once in a Lifetime" a great deal.)

^ I agree...this song is nothing special at all. It's catchy, but the lyrics are pretty weak in my opinion.

I guess this is an unfinished versión of the "Kiss A Girl" video.

^ I agree...this song is nothing special at all. It's catchy, but the lyrics are pretty weak in my opinion. I don't even think it's catchy. It sounds mostly like a retread of "Sweet Thing". I'll probably go ahead and say it's my least favorite Keith Urban song. I'm really not interested in buying the album, as most of the reviews seem to make this album out as being as sickeningly-sweet as the Care Bears. Come on, Keith, you were doing so well with the last album. What happened? …Oh yeah, you got married. To quote an Entertainment Weekly review of a totally unrelated album ( I Finally Found Someone by Lorrie Morgan and Sammy Kershaw, if you're interested), "Why is it some musicians make their lamest music when they're in love?"
