I hope this does well. Rob is one my favorite male singers ever. :) Mine too! I have incredibly high expectations, and this did not disappoint. I don't know how successful it'll be on Pop radio, but it's a #1 to me anyway. I like this more than 'Lonely No More,' personally.

I don't think this will catch on that quickly on radio. Looks like a grower. I don't think it will get farther than #20 but if it does, then good on it.

I think they would probably be happy with a top 20 peak on Pop. :)
I generally say that if you don't like a song by the 5th listen it isn't going to be a song you like. However, I have to admit that I've warmed up to a song like Poker Face after hearing it many times now. I think this song may really grow on people once they get used to the unusual sounds and the female singers in the song a few times. We'll see.

Just heard it a little bit ago. My first thought was "wow, this came out of nowhere!". I find that it's usually not that hard to like Matchbox Twenty's or Rob's solo material, and this is no exception.
This kinda sounds halfway between the Pop of "Lonely No More" and the more rock-ish "How Far We've Come". The female backing at the end sounds a little heavy, not far from a choir in spots.
I see this gaining quickly at first until it's safely inside the Top 50, a la How Far. It'll probably slow down after that...I could see it missing the Top 20 altogether, but it'll hang around for a while (possibly long enough to go recurrent...I mean if "Ever the Same" could do that and only hit #33...). It does have kind of an "easy" melodic vibe, which will serve it well for the summer.
I think this might continue Rob's overall decline on Hot AC though...I just can't picture this as a #1 song there. Plus, the fact that Hot AC is now mimicking Pop trends more and more might actually hinder it.

This is growing on me with each listen. It really could be a country song, IMO. I could picture Tim McGraw singing something like this. Not a fan of the background vocals at the end. Basically, cuz I don't think the women singing them have very good voices. Not sure how this will do on pop.

Who's the female backup at the end of the song? Is it the same person that did 'This Is How A Heart Breaks'?

Who's the female backup at the end of the song? Is it the same person that did 'This Is How A Heart Breaks'? Not sure. The "TIHAHB" vocals were done by a group called the Greater Anointing. I thought it was Pink at first on TIHAHB. :)

Rob Thomas is one of my artists. It goes without saying I love this.
It's no 'Lonely No More', but it's still a great song!

00 68 ROB THOMAS Her Diamonds Atlantic 156 0 156 0.831 Really hopin those aren't just Cumulus stations... About 2/3 are. :( Today's update: 00 61 ROB THOMAS Her Diamonds Atlantic 229 0 229 1.163 Of that total, 150 spins belong to Cumulus stations, and 11 out of 12 of the Cumulus stations on the Pop panel are playing it. Next highest would be Clear Channel, with 36 spins/6 stations.

Really hopin those aren't just Cumulus stations... What are cumulus stations? Yeah meant CHRs owned by Cumulus - they all played Little Wonders (exclusively), and I think accounted for somethin like 85% of its airplay (or higher), and most play tons of Rob Thomas/Matchbox 20 recurrents/gold tracks...only reason it would matter IMO is that if mostly Cumulus stations are on this new RT single, it could have a strong start but then start maxin out really quickly - but sounds like a bunch of CC stations are on it so hopin that's a good sign... :) Heard this today and really liked it...only thing is it's completely based around a metaphor which IMO might not catch on with people - tears really don't seem like diamonds to me (just can't see the connection I guess except for the shape lol), and that's kinda the core of the song

Does the start of this sound almost exactly like Lonely No More, or is it just me?

^Yeah ever since Ever The Same came out Rob Thomas has basically owned Cumulus CHRs...the one in ATL (Q100) def. plays a RT/M20 song at least once every couple hours (for the past three years lol) - their fav's are Ever The Same, Little Wonders, Bent, Mad Season, Unwell, Bright Lights, and How Far We've Come

This was more immediate for me than any of the singles off his debut album. Oddly enough, the 4th single "Streetcorner Symphony" took about a year for me to like, and now it's easily my favorite single off that album. "Her Diamonds" probably won't quite match "Streetcorner" for me, but it'll come close.
And I suppose the first 5 seconds sound a bit like "Lonely No More", but I associate the Latin-styled instruments much more strongly on the intro, and this doesn't have any of that.

He said that it meant that he had a lost love that caused a major scar to his soul when she left. That that scar was worth his time to talk about, unlike others who might have left but weren't worth his time. I take that same thing from "Her Diamonds". Like her tears are so precious to him (just like his love for her) that he calls the tears "diamonds". That's just my take on it. I heard Alicia Silverstone is in the video for this. Hope it's a good one. His & MB20's recent ones have been pretty lame, IMO.
