^ you can't say that with black eyed peas and katy perry #1 and #2 in your sig LOL that's unfair! :( I don't know why, I can't seem to like this song. I do hope it's a hit because Rob is one of my favorite solo male artist and he deserves success.

Nice gain today.
Rob twittered that he thinks he is taking One Republic and Carolina Liar out on tour with him this Fall. Tour will start late September.

Last week-
-- 33 THOMAS*ROB HER DIAMONDS 46025 999 0 46025
Total AI-
ROB THOMAS - Her Diamonds = 19.379 (+ 0.380)
And on streaming-
No. 24 - Rob Thomas - Her Diamonds
And Hot 100 airplay before recurrents -
No. 80 - Rob Thomas (+1.7 million)
This week-
33 59 THOMAS*ROB HER DIAMONDS 26967 -41 46025 72992
Airplay- up 11 spots
No. 69 - Rob Thomas (+2.4 million)
Streaming- up 3 spots
No. 21 - Rob Thomas - Her Diamonds (higher than Daughtry's latest)
Drops 42 to 57 on Hot 100. I figured it would with the digital sales decreasing so much after it's first week out. Hopefully, those sales will stabilize. I certainly don't see this song as a big digital seller but steady sales for a month or two would be nice. Probably get around 350,000-400,000 in total sales?

The last two days have probably seen the largest spins gains yet. Did a station or two add the song?

It looks like this song is going no where fast on Pop. That's a shame. I was hoping it could crawl into the top 30.

It looks like this song is going no where fast on Pop. That's a shame. I was hoping it could crawl into the top 30. CHR/Pop isn't a friendly environment for Adult Top 40-leaning songwriters presently, so as saddened as I am myself he won't duplicate his late 90's-early 00's glory days, I'm really not surprised by this. Occasionally an adult-leaning songwriter will squeeze through here, but even with, say, Matt Nathanson, his song "Come On Get Higher" is mostly a hit just because he tried to write a breezy, hooky song that had as many sexual references as possible without sounding bawdy. So his song isn't anything real special and simply capitalizes on the sensuality sells mantra. The same can be said with James Morrison's "Nothing Ever Hurt Like You", except that song isn't as mainstream-friendly as "Come On Get Higher". Rob Thomas really doesn't strike me as that artist who's writing for anyone, and just wants to write what he wants to write. Even so he still has an enviable audience in this day in age compared to almost every other artist to come out of the latter half of the 90's, and I think that's good enough for him. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I actually feel kind of sorry for rock/pop artists trying to break through these days. The Pop format is really not supporting rock songs right now. I don't think "Her Diamonds" is rock but you get my point. It will be really hard for an artist like David Cook to cement his career and that's with the big advantage of AI. He would be nowhere fast if he hadn't broken through on AI. I just don't see many new rock/pop artists making it HUGE in this radio climate. HotAC and AC radio play isn't going to get your music exposed to the numbers of people it takes to make superstars. You better break big on the rock/alternative formats first and then I think you are still only looking at an occasional Pop hit. Nickelback isn't even seeing the kind of success that they did on their last album (but the two singles haven't been as strong as their singles from their last album either). BTW, "Give Me A Meltdown" is now available to download in certain countries...Ireland and Australia maybe?

So his song isn't anything real special and simply capitalizes on the sensuality sells mantra. Matt didn't just try to write a song with a catchy hook, he succeeded Come On Get Higher got really high callout on many formats (including CHRs with adult audiences) - and Matt certainly didn't write it to get a pop hit, since it was originally only marketed for Triple A, and hit #20 on pop more than a year after its release, without any promo at all, just because so many people loved the song Come On Get Higher was one of the biggest Triple A hits of the year in '08...really don't think Triple A (and Hot AC) liked it because of the "sensuality sells mantra" As far as singer/songwriters, CHR supported Matt and Jason Mraz (not sure what other new singer/songwriter has had a big Hot AC hit since then...they haven't passed anybody over - James Morrison barely gets played on Hot AC) Clear Channel has been resistent towards Rob Thomas (solo) since This Is How A Heart Breaks - I think it's cause he's been around for so long, and just isn't seen as a "new" artist anymore - Her Diamonds is one of my fav. songs, and I'd love to see it fly up CHR, but without higher callout don't think CC is gonna consider it...hopin once it hits #1 HAC more stations will get on it

Yeah also this actually got a free ride to the Top 40 from Cumulus, so IMO it might just need more time before other stations really get on it on a large scale

I just downloaded "Give Me The Meltdown" from itunes. Nice big add for Cradlesong and this song on the front page. Maybe Rob made a mistake with going with "Her Diamonds" as the first single. Meltdown definitely is borrowing big time from INXS but he is friends with the band so maybe they won't sue. LOL! Anyway, it's a really upbeat song and danceable. "Meltdown" is more of a summer song to me than "Her Diamonds." You can listen to 30 second clips of all the songs on Ireland's itunes. "Natural," "Still Ain't Over You," and "Fire On The Mountain" sound very interesting to me. The album is certainly going to have a different vibe than Rob's first solo album or any MB20 albums.

#44 Daughtry's No Surprise (for comparison only - Her Diamonds has more total AI but No Surprise is doing better on Pop)

I've had "Fire On The Mountain" on repeat. This is so NOT a pop song. Rob really needs to make a video for this song even if it's not a full fledged single. I would have to hear the entire song but maybe take one more try at rock radio. It definitely has that U2 vibe to it and the lyrics sound like something Bono wishes he had written. "You don't see it I can tell How do you sleep while the city is burning? Where do you go when you can't go home? How do you drink when there's blood in the water? Where do you..." All sung with that heavy drum beat behind it.

So is Meltdown officially the new single? Has it gone for adds? No. It's not the next single. Rob said today on twitter that "Someday" is the next single. Maybe "Meltdown" will be the third single?

Two more interesting things Rob said on twitter today. He picks his singles and he'll be shooting the video for "Someday" next month. I don't know if the single will hit radio then or they are just getting the video done before he hits the road on tour. I think it's safe to say though that they are not going to drag out "Her Diamonds" on radio (especially pop).
