It only made the top THIRTY in Canada...and they're releasing it here because of that? Makes no sense.

It only made the top THIRTY in Canada...and they're releasing it here because of that? Makes no sense. I was sort of thinking the same thing too. I honestly think this is just another attempt in getting another Canadian artist to break out in the U.S. And needless to say, the results have been mixed. Now from what I've read and heard, her music has been featured on shows like Gossip Girl, as well as movies like What Happens in Vegas and Dr. Dolittle 4, so there is that obvious commercial appeal - whether it can translate into success in the U.S. is another story. I think of some Canadian musical acts that have recently tried breaking out in the U.S. and most of the successful ones have come more from rock - finger eleven, Three Days Grace, and of course, Nickelback come to mind. And there always new acts from that realm hoping to achieve that same level of success. From the pop/rhythmic side of things, I was reading that Keshia Chante tried the same thing but it did not quite pan out. Kreesha Turner has also tried, with having her music featured on promos for popular TV shows as well as commercials, but it still remains to be seen. (Did she even release her debut album in the U.S. yet?) Kardinal Offishall can attribute his success outside of Canada having worked with Akon on one of last year's big hits, but by himself, it probably would have been different. Then you have an artist like k-os, who's critically acclaimed in Canada, and hoped to carry that success in the U.S. with his last album in 2007. Even a performance on David Letterman was not enough. Granted, there are always new acts who have been successful in Canada and are looking to take it a step further by conquering another market, but it does not always work right away or it takes some time. I think of Barenaked Ladies, and how in the late 1990s they finally became successful in the U.S. after several years in their career. On an interesting note, probably the biggest thing to recently come out of Canada that has worked in the U.S. is Degrassi: The Next Generation. It fares horrible ratings in Canada, but is an obvious smash hit with teens stateside.

I thought it was a bigger hit than that in Canada. I was in Toronto last October, and I heard it probably about a dozen times on the radio. I liked it so I tried to remember what it was called.
