Billboard: "Boardwalk," the album's first single which is going out to radio in May, is an instantly recognizable summer tune. "We tried to get away from the Sugar Ray sound on our last record -- we even worked with the Neptunes on a couple of songs -- trying to reinvent ourselves but it didn't really work for us," McGrath admits. "But now we're like 'Let's give them a straight down the center, summer, sunny Sugar Ray song' and I think 'Boardwalk' really embodies that. From the title 'Boardwalk' to the sound of the song, the harmony, the acoustic guitar, the lyrical content -- you're going to hear the song and go 'Wow, that's Sugar Ray for sure.'"

It's not a bad song - it reminds me a lot of Shwayze's recent stuff, but poppier. Seeing as Sugar Ray haven't hit the chart in 6 years, I doubt it'll do anything, but maybe some of the Cumulus stations will get on it.

I thought the title said Soulja Boy - "Birdwalk" when I first saw it.

Cumulus is actually pretty selective about the HAC acts it gets behind - Rob Thomas and O. A. R. are definite adds, but so far those seem like the only two guarantees...I'd almost think some of the more Alternative-leaning CHRs might have to get on it first - seems like an uphill battle though cause Sugar Ray is in the same situation as Smash Mouth (basically outta CHR), so seems like it'd take a really new, novel sound to get them back on pop - assumin they have a better chance on Hot AC (still hafta hear song though )

Haven't heard it, but I generally like their singles, so looking forward to it. I remember hearing "Mr. Bartender" a lot and loving it, so I was surprised to learn that it really wasn't much of a hit at all.

As I mentioned though, it's very reminiscent (at least to me) of Shwayze and other reggae-influenced pop/rock, so it could make it.

Just shoot me. I can't believe the worst album of last year is now being used as a comparison against other stuff.

^^ Oh, I haven't heard the song yet. I'm just saying I don't think it matters how good the song is, their moment has passed. I don't think they'll ever have a hit on Pop again :(

It's exactly like NKOTB with Summertime. They couldn't have come back with a more pop friendly song, but there was just no way they were gonna have a big hit in 2008. Same situation here.
