I'm a big fan of Britney but I expect Radar flopping as a Nicole's song... This label has to learn not release this stupid singles... I doubt 'Radar' is going to flop that hard. It's following up two #1's and a top 10. It should have no trouble reaching the top 20 (at the very least).

I really don't see Battlefield as the summer anthem, I like the song but it isn't a summer anthem song, IMO. I also don't see Radar doing that well.
I see the figh being between LoveGame and Waking Up In Vegas. Kelly Clarkson has an outside shot but she will be hard pressed to defeat the queens of pop radio at the moment!

Can I please get a clarification of what consists of "Summer"? Cause I see some people say "Promiscuous" was one of the summer anthems of 06, yet it peaked in July. Then some say Umbrella was one of the summer anthems of 07, and it peaked in mid-June, which is before summer even technically started. Then someone also had the nerve to put Bleeding Love for 08, which peaked in f**kin April! Come on! lol It goes beyond chart peaks sometimes. You couldn't go anywhere in summer 2007 without hearing Umbrella or hearing people singing Umbrella, whether it peaked in June or not...same with Promiscuous in 2006. Those were definitely the summer anthems of 06 and 07. Not to mention Umbrella was #1 on the Hot 100 until July 21st.

Promiscuous was all I heard summer '06.
I guess a lot has to do with your market too.

I think I Do Not Hook Up will be.
To me Waking Up in Vegas isn't that kind of Pop anthem like Hot-n-Cold and I Kissed a Girl were.

Don't Trust Me is still cranking up the chart. Will peak in June, if it doesn't decline too quickly, it should be the summer song. Unless something is already on the chart (Lovegame) it doesn't have enough time to be ubiquitous this summer.

LoveGame, Waking Up In Vegas, I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho), and Goodbye will be the top four battling it out.
Battlefield, I Gotta Feeling, I Do Not Hook Up, Please Don't Leave Me, Don't Trust Me, Fire Burning, Radar, Beautiful, and If Today Was Your Last Day will also do well, but won't be "the" summer anthem of 2009.
Wanted, Take Me on the Floor, It's Alright, It's OK, Sweet Dreams, No Surprise, and some other up-and-coming artists and comebacks will be the underdogs for summer. Some may bust through for fall, though.

Sorry to throw another twist on this but in a lot of the South summer's already started (schools all got out before Memorial Day, and they start up again at the beginning of August) - so around here summer will be over by the time songs like Battlefield, I Got A Feeling, and Radar really get goin...pretty sure the Southwest is the same way
So I'm def. goin for Boom Boom Pow, Don't Trust Me, and Second Chance cause here they're already summer anthems - IMO the list really seems weak though - a lot of big artists with tracks that are alright but don't seem like classics

I really don't think "Boom Boom Pow" is the summer hit, it came out way too early. It's the pre-summer hit, just like how "Hips Don't Lie" "Hollaback Girl" and "Lady Marmalade" were in their years.
The summer song will probably be "LoveGame" or something that crosses over from Ryhthmic tha goes to #1 on the Hot 100.
I do agree though that the general consensus is that "Promiscuous" was the song of Summer for 06, "Umbrella" was for 07, and "I Kissed a Girl" was for 08. I don't know how anyone can say "We Belong Together" is the song of the summer in 05...that song was the song of the year, but summer songs are supposed to be uptempo.

I just don't see how LoveGame will generate enough interest to be "the song of the summer". Looking at the past 3 years, the summer anthems were highly-anticipated debut singles with a lot of hype around them. LoveGame is just another GaGa single. That's why I think something like Goodbye or Battlefield is more likely.

I'm sure there will be a song that will stand-out this summer, just because there has always been a summer anthem every year.

Yeah still only heard LoveGame on YouTube but just doesn't seem like that huge on a hit to me (more like its bullet is ridin on the success of JD and PF)...I'd go with Goodbye except seems like too many people don't like it, so thinkin it's gonna stall once it goes Top 10 - def. agreed about Battlefield though...thinkin it's goin #1

I think Battlefield lost its chance when Zomba released it iTunes too early. If they had waited for radio momentum and released it at around mid-June then it would have a good chance.
I think Hush Hush has more of a chance.

Believe it or not, the general public doesn't really give a damn about CHR positions. Prom, Um & IKAG were #1 for a significant amount of weeks on the Hot 100 and that is what truly made them summer anthems, not the fact that they were #1 on the radio.
