It needs to be EPIC. She needs to have a moment like Britney 2000 VMAs that solidifies her not just as a recording star but an entertainment and pop culture icon. She already has people talking (had no trouble with that), now she needs to take herself to that next stratosphere. An iconic VMA performance is the perfect place to do it. I'm thinking begin with Poker Face on piano then costume change and bring in the synths, then interlude/another costume change and move into remixed LoveGame. Maybe even throw in a few bars of a cover of some classic song. So excited! (if you can't tell)

She's VMA "material" if you know what I mean.

She needs to have a moment like Britney 2000 VMAs that solidifies her not just as a recording star but an entertainment and pop culture icon. So she needs to strip and lip-sync to a rockier version of her current hit.

No, she needs to SING LIVE to a cover on her current album (Boys, Boys, Boys) and then SING ALONG TO BACKING VOCALS to a rock version of her lead single (JUST DANCE) and look hot. Damn, I guess the looking hot is out for Ugly GaGa.

Is MTV really going back to the Best Male Artist & Best Female Artist categories though? Not sure. We'll have to wait and see when the actual nominations come out.

That's bullsh*t if "Single Ladies" isn't nominated for Video of the Year. Like her or not, no other video in this past year had the impact that "Single Ladies" had.

I don't even agree, the thing that caused Single Ladies to be huge was the dance. It just so happened that the dance was the entire video. She had a catchy dance routine that does not mean she had the best video of the year. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

She had a catchy dance routine that does not mean she had the best video of the year. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Uh, yeah. A concept for a video doesn't necessarily have to be a storyline. There are no definitive rules on what a music video should be, except that it should contain the song and be filmed. That's why "live" music videos exist and are, shockingly, nominated for VMAs. In the past, a majority of videos were pretty much performance only, especially those of the rock genre. If the Single Ladies video is, essentially, all about a dance sequence and choreography, then that's what the concept is, and it should be judged by that. If the dance phenomenon is the video and the video is the dance phenomenon... there's one common thread: the video being its source. The only way you can judge the video is by how much you either liked or did not care for the dance routine. It really is that black and white, no pun intended. Whatever's in the video, is the video. So why wouldn't people praise or shame it based on the choreography? It's sensical. I'm going to say said artist's video is [insert opinion here] because of what is going on in the video.

I would like to see the mtv awards like they were before..with hot hot hot performances..I would like to see people who can do a great show like britney, beyonce or gaga..nobody playing guitar and singing bad like taylor swift or just a cheap rock group with the vocalist jumping around the stage

^ If Taylor does something similar to her performance of 'Should've Said No' at the ACMs last year, it'll be anything but boring.
Anyway, I'd like to see Avril perform. The lead single from her next album should be coming out right around the time of the VMAs, and a performance there would be great exposure/promotion. Make it happen, MTV!

I think Single Ladies should be nominated, though I don't think she should win. I Agree. I don't think Eminem should get any nominations. We Made You was just a copy of his old videos. I don't see "Know Your Enemy" getting a Video of the year nomination, maybe rock video but nothing more. I'll be watching the show this year anyways, i kinda find it funny.

Too bad that list is fake as I like many of the nominations. When are the nominations coming out anyway? It is getting pretty late in the summer. They should be out soon.
I think Lady Gaga is going to be the Big winner this year. Beyonce deserves something for Single Ladies as well.

If the list is indeed a fake I still don't see the real nominations that far off from this list of nominees.
