I did not realize this, but Darryl Scott wrote some of my favorite songs ever!
He wrote Heartbreak Town for the Dixie Chicks and Long Time gone. He also wrote "It's a Great Day to be Alive", which is amazing too. Wow. I cannot wait to hear what they wrote!

Good for her. It would hurt her cred to show at the Pop Country Music Awards. Oh wait, did I just say that? Yeah, it's a miracle that Carrie's career survived the CMT Awards she won for the videos for J,TTW and BHC. I know you're just bantering, but I'm sure you can see that to magically start disparaging the CMT Awards now seems...transparent. I certainly don't need to be reminded of Carrie's genuine country "cred" -- I've written posts in favor of it. But let's not kid ourselves as to where on the traditional/contemporary/country/pop spectrum Carrie's music is currently placed. She may not be the most pop out there in country, but that's of little interest to country's purists. Of course, it remains to be seen how Carrie's music evolves. No Carrie at this year's CMT Awards. Confirmed by Carrie herself a couple of minutes ago at the FC. She will be attending her mom's birthday bash the day before and won't be back in time. According to her, "God and Family" come first and she wants to give us fan's fingers a break from voting for her. Good on Carrie for this, and for letting her fans know. I'm glad that she feels confident enough to take some time away for the people who matter most to her. fan7, for the sake of answering your question from the previous thread...here are a few "sent to radio" dates relative to album release dates for some of country radio's core artists: Brad Paisley, "Then": sent to radio 16 March 2009/album release date 30 June 2009 ("Then" is currently #1) Rascal Flatts, "Here Comes Goodbye": sent to radio 20 January 2009/album release date 7 April 2009 Keith Urban, "Sweet Thing": sent to radio 4 November 2008/album release date 31 March 2009 ("Sweet Thing" peaked at #1 on 1 and 8 March, "Kiss a Girl" went to radio 9 March 2009) Taylor Swift, "Love Story": sent to radio 7 September 2008/album release date 11 November 2008 Sugarland, "All I Want to Do": sent to radio 19 May 2008/album release date 22 July 2008 I am most excited for the Darrel Scott co-write. This guy's written some of the best country songs this decade ever! I'm pretty excited about this, too. As tsharky posted, Darrell Scott wrote the Dixie Chicks' "Long Time Gone" and "Heartbreak Town," which are both terrific songs. Marcus Hummon co-wrote the Dixie Chicks' "Cowboy, Take Me Away" and "Ready to Run." I know that ultimately it will depend as much on the production as on the songs, I'd love for Carrie to sing some songs with a rootsier country feel, and the co-writes with Hummon and Scott might offer that possibility. Incidentally, anyone interested in some background on Darrell Scott should check out Leeann Ward's Top-15 Songs by Darrell Scott blog over at [url= Country Universe. I've also got my eye on "Oklahoma Wind," "Imaginary Friend," "Little Red Flags" and "Play On" because of the co-writers involved. I'm really glad that Carrie is working with them because they are all evocative lyricists with that rootsy country sensibility to them. And Barry Dean, Troy Verges, Ashley Gorley and Kelley Lovelace have co-written songs with/for Carrie that have really worked with her voice, so I'm excited to see what more they come up with together. The appearance of Mike Elizondo is a definite surprise. I wonder if Carrie has worked with him out in LA (I've no idea where he is based; this is just me thinking out loud). That could be interesting. I know him as the producer of Maroon 5's most recent album, and also as the guy who co-wrote "The Grass Is Green", one of my favorite tracks from Nelly Furtado's (underrated, in my view) Folklore. I don't really know what to expect out of co-writes that involve Elizondo, Brett James and Carrie. Maybe something with a soulful or bluesy groove?

Haha Dudley of course I knew it was transparent - but I think the climate in which Carrie won her awards (which were two-three years ago) is completely different now. We didn't have Miley charting then....but I digress....
I don't think you can tell that much from a song title - I never would have picked "So Small" to be one of my favorite Carrie singles because the title sounds so blech, but it turned out to be a fav! I just hope we don't get our hopes too high; I want to be surprised as opposed to overthinking!

Wow, Darrell Scott also co-wrote "I'm Trying." That's the only song I really like on Martina's latest album (also previously recorded by Diamond Rio).
Anyway, here he is performing "Long Time Gone." He's like a one-man band with that guitar! Got this from one of the comments on the Country Universe feature dudley pointed out, by the way.
(Yup, I'm so excited that I'm still looking at the writers' stuff!)

As a somewhat lazy/computer challenged fan, you guys who bring so much good information to this site are very appreciated. Please keep the news and insight coming. Very exited about the new album and the song titles are fun to see and speculate about.

I hope we also get to listen the songs that don't make the album. I'm sure some will be recorded by other artists like Kristy Lee Cook did with Not Tonight.

Walmart has a new American Idol section in the cd area... and it highlights the biggest idol stars.. ie- Carrie, Kelly, David Cook, Daughtry, Ruben, Jen Hudson, etc). I think it is a great idea and it will help them all sell a little bit better due to the free advertising, etc.

Just random thoughts from me...
"Butterflies" (Mike Elizondo, Brett James, Carrie Underwood)
Please, no 'butterfly' songs. "Butterfly Kisses" singlehandedly ruined butterfly songs for me and then Martina's She's A Butterfly threw me over the edge. Unless she's singing about plucking the wings off of butterflies because she's mad at some guy, I don't want to hear it.
"Come Catch Me" (Barry Dean, Carrie Underwood, Troy Verges)
This one sounds pretty good.
"Eighteen Inches" (Ashley Gorley, Kelley Lovelace, Carrie Underwood); also at ASCAP
I had no idea Carrie wrote a song about me. I'm honored.
"Oklahoma Wind" (Bill Anderson, Jon Randall, Carrie Underwood)
Would love to hear this. Nothing but good could come from an Anderson/Randall/Underwood composition.
"To My Favorite Fan" (Luke Laird, Hillary Lindsey, Carrie Underwood); also at ASCAP
My gut tells me this is Carrie's "Stan", about Matt, of course.
"What Am I Gonna Wear Friday Night" (Marcus Hummon, Darrell Scott, Carrie Underwood)
As others have stated, Hummon and Scott each have contributed to some great songs.
"Wine After Whiskey" (Dave Berg, Tom Shapiro, Carrie Underwood)
Based on titles alone, I'm most looking forward to this. You almost can't go wrong with whiskey in the title. And I'm a big fan of Shapiro.
And I'm not a fan of Kara DioGuardi so I'm hesitant about any of her contributions.

And I'm not a fan of Kara DioGuardi so I'm hesitant about any of her contributions. I feel the same way about DioGuardi. I think that working with her might result in the album being more pop instead of being more country.

I like alot of Kara's songs, but I admit, after hearing "No Boundaries" at the Idol Finale, my respect for her declined a little. lol That song is possibly the worst fluff winner's song yet. lol

On Forbes Top 100 Most Powerful Celebrities, Carrie was #75.
The only other singers were Madonna, Beyonce, Justin T, Coldplay, Rascall Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen, and one or two more...
Not too shabby ;)
Also, AAG was voted the #1 Summer Song by CMT...I really think the only reason she wasn't nominated for FotY at the CMTs was because they knew she wouldn't be attending.

Exerpt from the Peterborough Examiner: www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1601424CARRIE UNDERWOOD IN TOWN Country superstar Carrie Underwood and her beau, Ottawa Senators' Mike Fisher, were out on the the town last night, celebrating the Peterborough native's birthday at the Splice nightclub. Fisher told The Examiner it was Underwood's first time in Peterborough and she was enjoying herself. While he talked to bar patrons and took the odd picture with fans, he restricted access to Underwood and would not let people take her picture. Fisher turned 29 yesterday.

One of the things I love about the "in-between" of albums is how you can hear all of Carrie's old songs on the radio as there is no current single to play. I hear JTTW, DFTRM, and BHC soooooooo much now!
