It's looking like #11 will be its peak on the HOT 100. I doubt the video and her performance will do anything and her sales will go downhill from now on. Pop radios won't start playing the song in 2 weeks.. Her airplay will still rise a little but it won't explode. She should remain in the top 20 for a couple weeks though..

I highly doubt it was Def Jam's plan to have "It's Like That" charting at #16. And same goes for "Obsessed", you cannot decide to have a smaller hit and then a bigger one.

I hope the new album is not a "E=MC³".

I hope the new album is not a "E=MC³". They definitely rushed the new album. I am sure one year ago there was no plan for a new album so soon. She was supposed to go on tour wasn't she?

They may not have wanted "It's Like That" to reach only number sixteen, but they probably didn't expect it to hit number one. Mariah was coming off the back of two underperforming albums. Island had no idea that radio would be so receptive to "It's Like That" and, later, "We Belong Together." This album is not that rushed. She's been working on it since November. It was not thrown together in a couple of weeks. Also, it's not unusual for Mariah to have an album come out one year after the previous one. She did that all the time in the nineties. Are you saying that albums like Music Box, Merry Christmas!, and Daydream are rushed because they came out within one year of each other?

I doubt they predicted it would be a moderate hit. They must be wondering what to do now.

The idea that a record label would intentionally release a single they believed would perform only "moderately" (especially a first single) is completely ridiculous. The first single, for the most part is the song that will set the album up for success or failure. I am sure they not only thought It's Like That would generate buzz but also believed it had huge hit potential.

Does anyone know about her contract with Def Jam? How many more albums she has to release?

^ I think she signed a new one with them because E=MC2 was her last album on her old, $21m for three albums contract. No details of the new contract were ever leaked.

I'm just glad that she is releasing a new album. I thought after she got married, she wouldn't care anymore. It's glad to see that she genuinely does care about music and her fans.

Producing new music has always been a priority for Mariah. I never thought, for even a minute, that should would ever "retire" or "lose interest".

I am sure they not only thought It's Like That would generate buzz but also believed it had huge hit potential. Exactly, otherwise they would have just released Say Something instead as originally planned. Careful thought was put into the album's kick off and it paid off. I remember that ILT not going top 10 had to do with IDJ not paying for ad space on Itunes. Remember downloads started just being included on the main chart in the midst of its chart run.

Yeah, where is this coming from? If you add up the spins gained on all four formats (according to the numbers you provided) the total is only 190, not 321. Fixed ;)

QUICK CUT INFORMATION: 7/13/2009 27.119 4680 (+0.563) +128 spins POP: 544 (+21) ALL ACCESS INFORMATION - ACCURATE RHY: 2454 (+58) URB: 1373 (+40) UAC: 171 (-1) This was posted yesterday as the update from Monday. So was that not a 321 spin increase (overall) for Tuesday's update? Or were the total spins wrong ? *shrugs* I'm confused. Oh well. No big deal.

^ Thanks! It is still a great update :) Really? Increasing 190 spins over four formats with a first single averaging 47 spins per format is great? We have different standards. haha

Okay i'm sorry but someone has to say this:
Those first week sales are really disappointing for Mariah especially when you think about how she sold 280k with her last 1st single. This is an all around dud. Even Ciara was able to have better 1st week digital sales than this.
Flop.

This song is really horrible and that is why it's not doing well. It really is as simple as that. I can't even finish the track and still haven't heard it in full, its that bad.
The way it goes these days with such a popular act is if the first single isn't huge than its likely the entire album will be a disasterous flop. I see that happening this time

Oh lord, if this flops I fear the death rate for lambs will skyrocket :S The video was nice. Nothing amazing, she looked nice, and her cross-dressing was fun but it was nothing amazing. The song is just nice aswell. NOt as catchy as TMB and I liked it far less. I'm really hoping the 2nd single is hot, or this era might *whispers so the lambs don't hear* flop...

Debuts at #11 on The Hot 100. Her highest debut of the decade.
FLOP! Scrap the project and save yourself the embarrassment, Mimi! :(

Debuts at #11 on The Hot 100. Her highest debut of the decade. Well it's all subjective. I mean her achieving this high debut was all an issue of timing. Had she been one position higher last week it wouldn't have happened. This is a record for her but it isn't exactly a huge accomplishment IMO. Some are being a bit dramatic with all of this "her career is over", "she'll never have another #1", "she should scrap this album" nonsense.
