What a mess. I'm lookin forward to the grammys. They'll DEFINITELY do better than that. The bar has been set very low. Damn, even the Japanese Music Awards will probably do better than that.

BET's 106 & Park Red Carpet Pre-Show was much better than the actual awards show. It was very entertaining and they had some great performances by Hurricane Chris, Kid Cudi, LeToya, Day26, etc. Plus appearances by Amerie, Diddy, Ryan Leslie, Ne-Yo, etc. And what was up with all the cursing on the BET Awards show? There was more cursing on this show than in previous BET Awards shows. What was up with those girls being on stage with Drake, Lil Wayne, and Young Money. The song was very vulgar and it just wasn't right to have girls on that stage for that song. im looking for gaga, BEP, britney , Katy performance.

A reporter on the Tom Joyner syndicated radio show confirmed that it was indeed Jay-Z who told BET to not let Chris Brown perform on the Awards show. Chris found out on Saturday that BET was not going to let him perform his MJ tribute.

Chris found out on Saturday that BET was not going to let him perform his MJ tribute. Yeah right - they took a poll of all the female artists and all the industry bigwigs. Chris Brown, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Gucci Mane - the only reason none of them performed is because Hova had them all banned. An "insider" said it so it must be true. The "insider" also said that Hova forced BET to ban Omarion, Trey Songz, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, DMX, Sexy Spec from Pretty Ricky and Vanilla Ice. It had nothing to do with the fact that none of them was scheduled to perform and MJ died only 3 days before the show went on. Blame it on the alcohol and blame it on Hova, just because an "insider" said so.

A lot of people who listen to this show on a daily basis heard the same report that I originally posted. If you got a problem with the story then send an e-mail to Tom Joyner.

Pop a Midol and take your panties out of a bunch! Sheeesh. How would I know about the "poll of female artists" and "industry bigwigs if I didn't hear it, too. Tom Joyner quotes from less than reliable sources like MediaTakeOut all the time - it doesn't make the "insider" rumor any less bullshitt!

this show was a horrible tacky mess!!!
What a shame. I know they had a little time, but they shouldn't have hyped the supposed tribute too much.
I hope the VMA's and the Grammys can make justice to the King.

Hyping up Chris Brown's performance (and putting it on their homepage!) was just disgusting. I have to agree with this, I'm kinda disappointed in Chris too if he knew he was gonna perform he should have let his fans know. Why use his name to get ratings

Why use his name to get ratings I don't think Chris knew he wasn't performing until the very last minute. First, the rumor was that Rev. Al Sharpton told BET execs not to let him perform. Then I heard the rumor that it was CoverGirl since they sponsored the show. Either way, he should be happy he wasn't a part of that nonsense.

Glad I didn't even waste my time. It's time we quit punishing Chris Brown. The courts have already had their say. Let's move on.

Chris found out on Saturday that BET was not going to let him perform his MJ tribute. If so, that is kind of unfair. Why would Jay-Z dictate the BET awards? He is not the producer, and he should have no say in the matter. While I hate what Chris did, I think he would have saved the BET awards from being the disaster they were. The only good MJ tribute performance was the closing number by Jamie Foxx and Neyo, singing "I'll Be There." THAT was good. They both sounded good and it was emotional and real. Chris, Justin Timberlake, and Usher would have done a great job on an MJ tribute. too bad.

I loved Janet at the end as well. That alone was worth it for suffering through this mess of a show.

anyone who expected BET to pull off some high quality tribute in less than 72 hours is delusional. First of all it's BET. Second, when award shows do tributes it takes weeks and perhaps months of planning. There's no way you can pull together a high quality tribute--ESPECIALLY for an artist like MJ in 72 hours. If they wanted to read a few inspirational quotes and picture slide--sure. But to get the performances right and the right artist--NO. It will take a lot of effort and TONS of rehearsing.

^ True... but it really bugs me that Jay-Z dictated the whole show. I would have much rather heard a good MJ tribute song by Chris, then a blah performance by Jay-Z that had nothing to do with Michael Jackson.

I felt this way before the incident with RiRi. But I will admit that he can dance his ass off and did a good homeage to MJ at the MTV awards a couple years ago.

ya i was also PIssed that Chris wasn't performing. He was the only person that could have saved this mess of an awards show.
I also liked Beyonce's performance even though it had nothing to do with MJ. (only good part of the show)

^I think Usher and JT would have done great performances. Usher's performance of Alright for Janet's MTV ICON was right on point. But yeah, Chris, Usher and JT would have been great!

They made it seem like they were really going to do something special. But it was just horrible. I saw wayy better tributes on the news with people from the streets, with a whole lot more meaning than what I saw at the awards show.

WOW @ Maxwell's performance. I haven't watched anything else yet but I doubt anything was better than that. Amazing. I cannot wait to buy his album.

I'm sorry Maxwell had to be a part of that awful show that was dictated by JayZ.
