I was just typing this thread in response to some of the songs that make it onto CHR today. It suprises me sometimes because certain songs sound out of place on pop radio, but make it there anyway. Like for example....
I Like The Way You Move - Outkast Jumpin Jumpin - Destiny's Child Family Affair - Mary J. Blige My Boo - Usher & Alicia Keys Day N' Nite - Kid Cudi (that remix helped I guess) Lets Go - Trick Daddy Put It On Me - Ja Rule
Maybe this is just personal opinion, but what sounds like pop to others, it sometimes does not sound like pop to me.
Any crossovers that suprised you?

Paramore - Misery Business
When I first heard the track, I thought it was pop friendly, but I didn't actually expect it to hit. Then over half a year later, it hit.
Use Somebody - Kings Of Leon
The only reason that one didn't surprise me even more was because I knew it had massive promotion behind it.
Day N Nite - Kid Cudi
Not only did it hit, but it did very well on the charts, achieving recurrency. The song sounds so different, I just didn't expect it.
I'm Yours - Jason Mraz, Love Remains The Same - Gavin Rossdale, Shattered - O.A.R.
After doing a lot on HAC but not much on CHR, I didn't think they was ever going to hit; but they did eventually, and I'm Yours even went to number one.
There's a bunch more; these are just a few.

Any of those Dance/Electronic songs such as:
Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone Cascada - Everytime We Touch Cher - Believe David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over Dirty Vegas - Days Go By DJ Sammy & Yanou - Heaven DHT - Listen To Your Heart (the Candlelight version got most of the airplay) Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) iiO - Rapture (Tastes So Sweet) Lasgo - Something Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5 Pitbull - Hotel Room Service (it looks like this one is about to do pretty well based on the early run) Pitbull - I Know You Want Me Pitbull - Krazy September - Cry For You Sonique - It Feels So Good Vengaboys - We Like To Party!
There are probably some more recent ones but these are the only ones I can think of right now.

Trapt - "Headstrong"
Has there been a heavier CHR Top 40 hit since this song came out and went top 5 somehow?

Not majorly, but it did peak at #44. For the type of song it was, it shouldn't of reached the top 100.

Lifehouse - "You & Me" (go back to the thread on this - no one was predicting it would go past #40) Papa Roach - "Last Resort" Jason Mraz - "I'm Yours" Matt Nathanson - "Come On Get Higher" The Ting Tings - "That's Not My Name"

My Way by Limp Bizkit. I expected Rollin' or My Generation, the two rap-based singles to get airplay, but why pop picked the heavier song is beyond me. Oh, and Like a Stone by Audioslave. I'm more surprised by heavier songs charting than urban songs.

Like a Stone is a rock/pop song. Sorry for the rock fans of Audioslave. I am a huge Chris Cornell/Audioslave/Soundgarden fan. Its not heavy at all and just screams pop. If released now, i dont think it would even be considered rock. I love the song.
I hope more rock influence comes in.

Addicted.
Also why would a song with Usher the biggest artist in the country in 2004 surprise you?

^^^ Well that particular song just screams URBAN hit... two singers big on that format in an R&B duet... just isn't poppish to me.

Before He Cheats
One of the only country songs that didn't need a remix to have pop success. I never thought it would break the top 50 (for a whileeeee it stayed in the mid 50s)...the perfect example of listeners making a song popular as opposed to radio programmers/DJs/industry execs.

Lifehouse - "You & Me" (go back to the thread on this - no one was predicting it would go past #40) True, but I don't know if I would consider it a "crossover." Where did this crossover from? I am surprised that it is pushing top 15 on pop, though.

The Veronicas - Untouched
Seriously, after sooo many months of being released the single eventually became a hit single.

The Veronicas - Untouched Seriously, after sooo many months of being released the single eventually became a hit single. This isn't really a crossover, unless you're talking about territorially (as in from AUS to US). It didn't cross over from another genre/format.

This is confusing. It looks like most people are commenting on the artist instead of the sound. Obviously the label was doing promotion for a crossover attempt, that is why an Urban or Country artist released a single that doesn't sound like their usual work. This thread is borderlining on artist stereotypes instead of actually figuring out why the song crossed over.
