LOL at people getting excited because she sang something live. Really, people, artists sing live all the time. There have been posters that have said countless times that she can't sing live because she lost the ability. This shows that she has not lost the ability to sing live. It's also her first live vocal performance in five years, there is going to be excitement over that. It's natural.

She sounds great, especially on 'You Oughta Know'. Her voice really works with that song. I'd love to hear a recorded version of it.

It's also her first live vocal performance in five years, there is going to be excitement over that. It's natural. Im one of those people and those "performances" are just too easy examples of my point. People are so excited/shocked she sang live, they are missing the fact that it is not impressive at all to sing live; its impressive to sing live and do it well which this is not. This is someone talking through a song by a not so good singer Alanis. In other words, an easy cover that she brought nothing new to. Sorry! not buying the hype over performing live just because she hasnt in 5 years! What do you want to give her, a trophy, for singing live for like her first time. Nothing about this is natural. Natural is expecting an artist to sing live everytime they hit the stage, not forming these ridiculous standards for her just because she cant sing. ' EDIT: Go and and say "debbie you never say anything positive!' 'you just hate britney, you're jealous' Forget about me. Im just saying it how I see it. Ill call out anything i dont agree with and with what i do agree with.

Im one of those people and those "performances" are just too easy examples of my point. I think the point most people made about Britney's singing ability was that she could no longer sing at all which was why she always lipped. If you prefer the performance or even like it is not the point. The point is that she proved that she can pull off a decent vocal performance live with little mistakes and or errors. If you like the performance or not that's not the point. The point is she was able to perform and accomplish something many believed she could not do. This is true. But since Britney is always spoken about as having little to no singing or vocal talent when she does pull off a vocal performance and it's decent people are going to be impressed, because she usually doesn't even get that amount of credit in the first place. I think Alanis is an amazing singer personally. I find her to be an incredibly talented person, do I think that Britney lived up to Alanis' version - no. But that's not my point. My point is that Britney tackled a song and gave a competent live vocal performance. As to Alanis' credit as a vocalist I think she is one of if not the most expressive vocalists to come out of the 90's and she pretty much epitomized what a female rock vocalist was and should of been back then. As to the level of difficulty of the song again not my point but within the first minute of the song "You Ought To Know" goes threw nearly two octave raises from an F3 to an E5. I wouldn't call that "unimpressive". I don't think the purpose was to bring anything new to the song, I think most likely Britney wanted to have fun and spice up her tour by doing a new performance and she wanted to pay tribute to Alanis by having the same arrangement and wanted to do something with attitude. Who says that cover versions have to be different from the original versions? No but obviously people are going to be interested in this performance due to the length in which she has last performed. Britney can sing, whether or not she meets your personal standards is besides the point. But she has proven on several occasions that she can produce a competent vocal performance.

That was a great cover and nice to see her singing live again.
By the way, we all should expect the typical hateful comments like these:
1. She sounds horrible, she should lypsing all the time. 2. LMAO at Britney s.tans getting exited for Britney finally singing live. 3. LMAO she's copying Beyonce. She sang that song on her tour. 4. Britney should be ashamed for covering this song after Beyoncé's cover. 5. LMAO at Britney fans saying that this cover was great. She's worse than Rihanna. 6. She brings shame to the original.

Perez Hilton: Britney Keeps Making Major Progress!!!!This is a beautiful thing!!!! At her concert in Greensboro, NC, on Saturday night, Brit Brit debuted a new song on her Circus tour set list. She did a cover of Alanis Morissette's You Oughta Know. And she actually sang live!!!!!!!! It was the first time she sang any song live during this whole tour!!!!!! Yes. Yes. Yes. Slowly but surely our beloved Brit Brit is rebuilding her confidence. And, hopefully, next tour there will be a lot more singing! perezhilton.com/2009-09-06-britney-keeps-making-major-progress

^ I'm happy she at last decided to sing something live! And she didn't sound horrible at all, she exceeded my expectations. But she is far from sounding as great as many people here claim! Mack, I think her voice doesn't suit at all such a rocky song. She has a more nasal, bubblegum voice. That's what I think. But it is a first step towards recovering the glory

There's been a lot of positive reception over this cover. Who knew singing live would bring her so much positive press? Maybe this will convince her to do it more...(wishful thinking, lol).

Wow, an actual live performance from Britney. At last fans who argue she does sing live will have a video to use (most likely for years) in future debates. All in all, I'm impressed. For one, that she sang live and for two that it didn't sound bad at all. I'm interested in hearing a higher quality version.

Wow!! Thanks for those posts of Brit singing live. I wish she had sung live when I went to see her here in DC. It was still good to see her, though. She did a good job, I think. And what's more important is to see another step in her recovery. That's the way I'm seeing Brit now, as an artist who is making what she can to be back in shape as an artist, and I am very happy seeing her progress.
Still interested in knowing what else is coming! Singles collection? Re-release? Pause?
