This sounds so freakin' old. I believe that's the point. It's a throwback. Exactly.

first review :o Whitney Houston: New 'Million Dollar Bill' feels like a cheap pennyWhitney Houston has just released another new single, "Million Dollar Bill," that is aimed more towards pop audiences than her elevator song "I Look to You."
The results: cheap and formulated.
"Million Dollar Bill" sounds like a dance song Whitney could have recorded in the late 1980s or early 1990s, which isn't a bad thing. However, it fails to compare to "How Will I Know," "Love Will Save the Day," and "I'm Every Woman."
So far, the songs on Whitney's supposed comeback album I Look to You sound like they were put through some formulatic machine to get her fans back after years of abusing drugs and putting her children at risk.
Of course, Whitney Houston has another problem: Mariah Carey. Through her single "Obsessed", the song is shaping up to be a decent hit. It is unlikely that radio will give "I Look to You" or "Million Dollar Bill" much of a chance, especially because Whitney is over 40 years old and radio programmers are known to be ageist. In any case, lets hope the rest of I Look to You is better than the awful material we've heard so far.www.examiner.com/x-15033-Memphis-....e-a-cheap-pennyharsh

^That review is a mess, especially for the part where it mentions MC being a threat. Last I checked her song is tanking and ILTY is taking off quickly.

That review is clearly written by a threatened, bitter lamb. It's complete bull. As is this: Last I checked her song is tanking.

Most people love MDB. Its a hot song. Its funky, fresh and age appropriate for Whitney.

I don't know about this song yet. It sounds like a leftover from Alicia's "Diary.'
I'll see if it grows on me but right now it's not doing anything for me. "I Look To You" is still the strongest track I've heard so far.

I'm thinking 325k first week and if the singles do well and she promotes, at least 1mil us and 2mil worldwide. 325k would be amazing for her. I doubt she can do 250k though.

Anyway, MDB will officially impact radio next week.

The begining is just horrible.. sounds like a dog barkin. yeah, her voice is terrible and grating on the track. It's really thin and on the verge of cracking (actually it DOES crack ).

I do like this, and it' the best song I've heard from her in the last decade, but I don't think this has much of a chance at being a real comeback hit for her. I really don't see pop touching it, and I'm even doubtful about Urban/Rhythmic. It's a bit too throwback-ish, which will hurt it I think. Also, even though I like it, it in no way lives up to the hype.

Anyway, MDB will officially impact radio next week. Um no.... This source is hardly a Mariah fan. This is the same source that claimed Obsessed was a flop then backtracked with its not a flop when the song rebounded. Pretty much every week he has something negative to say about Mariah so he may be pathetic but he is hardly a lamb.

question:
why don't "THROWBACK" songs do well on radio?
alicia's - teenage love affair also did poorly.

I mean, I don't think there is a rule that songs that have an old school feeling can't be played. But I just find it odd, that many of these songs haven't done well in the past.

But I just find it odd, that many of these songs haven't done well in the past. They just don't. It's like a bias. The DJs think it will turn away listeners or whatever. I don't even remember "Rehab" getting that many spins at Pop/Rhythmic. I think Amy Winehouse depended on sales for her top 10 success.
