I am driving back from NH after a crazy Labor Day weekend in the woods. The car I am in let me choose from their CDs and they had Mariah's Greatest Hits Disc 2. Of course, I starting baa-ing immediately and asked to put it in. I'm surprised my request wasn't met with a pair of shears. It's all I can do to not start spouting random Mariah factoids to the girls in the car. I just subtly informed them that she writes her own songs, she is my favorite vocalist and that, when One Sweet Day came on, that I had the distinct pleasure of hearing it live. @ myself.

You heard OSD live? Wow. How was that? Was it how you expected her to sound?

She didn't do the whole thing but it was good. It was during the TEOM tour.

Overloaded, oh cool. Especially woulda been a treat during an era so late after Daydream.
Recordman, "lambing out"? Lol that's a first.
It's funny that most people I know actually don't think Mariah writes her stuff.

It's funny that most people I know actually don't think Mariah writes her stuff. Well, I watch WWE Wrestling and when you're a big fan of someone and get real excited about something that happens they called it MARKING OUT. So I just took a bit of that and added a twist to it. LOL.

LOL. That's funny dude. You like WWE? Same! Totally not a sterotypical Mariah Carey fan.

I am the furthest thing from a stereotypical fan, esp. given my sexual orientation and other musical preferences. LOL @ LAMBING out. Reminds me of WILDIN' out.

She seems to be rehearsing a bit so maybe she's trying to step her game up live performance wise.
Hope so. Little changes could make a world of difference. And no more Rachel! Lol.
She's not what you'd call on the cutting edge of dance choreography.

Let's discuss when we became hardcore MC fans. I had liked her from a younger age when I first heard "Someday" but wasn't a lamb by any means. That went on for some years until 1995 I heard the single, "Fantasy" and really liked it. The next year my Grandmother passed away and that hurt me so bad, I was messed up (keeping in mind I was only 12 and I was closer to her than anyone on earth). Then I heard Always Be My Baby on the radio and it connected with me, then I heard Forever and One Sweet Day and it was a wrap.
I think in a way her music helped me heal and made such a big impression on me. I've loved her music ever since. I got caught up on her backcatalog from then and purchased Butterfly when it was released. And the rest is history. Music has always been a big part of my life and I'm thankful that I discovered Mariah's music. I later discovered her Mariahisms and her own personality but initially it was all about the music, still is really. The goofy stuff is fun or what not but at the end of the day it's the music.

Recordman my story is similar to yours even right down to my grandmother passing.
Bought her back catalogue later on.
All about the music for me as well, being someone who works in the industry I have utmost respect for her craft.

Oh, I remember when I first got into Mariah, ah that vision of love. It was right after I had a breakdown (following being dumped by my lover boy) and I said to myself "Wait, I don't want to cry over something so silly" so I stifled all emotions. I heard her playing on the radio and knew someday, she would be my hero. She really did turn out to be my saving grace. To this day I still have this fantasy that one sweet day I'll run to her with open arms and shout "If we make it happen you'll always be my baby!" Knowing my luck she'd probably migrate.
For the record, I'm not obsessed, just explaining how Mariah was the one who got me through the rain.
Honey.

It will feel so good when O finally hits the top 10 this week.
It wasn't repressed, it had an amazing longevity and it has earned fairly its way to the 10 hottest tracks in the country. I'm proud of this song. :)

For me, as I've said before, the second my radio station on the Cape premiered VOL, I needed more. I waited patiently and bought the MC cassette tape on its release dat with some of my allowance. One of my best friends gave me her copy of Emotions cassette shortly after she bought it but I will never understand why; she was a fan as well. Then, I bought Music Box on cassette, Daydream on CD, etc. To this day, I don't own Unplugged, only a few songs. I have heard it all tho. I don't usually buy holiday releases so I missed Merry Christmas during its first run. I bought the re-release dual disc version tho. Also, on a tragic note, Butterfly is one of 2 CDs I have lost in my whole life. Lost it when I was living in Paris. I don't believe in buying something twice so I found the album online a year later and burned a copy. At least I had the CD for 4 years before losing it! That's my Mariah story for th most part. I love how respectful we have been lately. Let's keep it up, guys!
Edit: Typing these essays on my iphone is so hard!!

Ok, my turn.
Back in 1995, Without You was all over some cheesy teen series over here and I though the song was gorgeous, but in my mind it was really old and the singer was dead. But yes, it was Mariah's version, LOL.
I was really into Céline Dion around 97/98 and bought the Divas Live album. I ran home to listen to it and when the first song came in I was just mesmerized by Mariah's voice, so I started paying more attention to her.
Some little time later, I watched the Honey video and enjoyed it, but still wasn't that big of a fan. Then, when I finally saw the Breakdown video I totally fell in love and this is my favorite song of hers till this day.
Funny thing... all of my best friends in the whole world I met because of Mariah (I share a house with 2 of them now), the love of my life I met also because of Mariah (though we're no longer together). I left my parents' town supported by these friends.... it was easy to understand myself and my sexual orientation with their help..... I just can't imagine how different my life could turn out to be.

I'm hoping everyone was smart enough to realize that "story" was just a play on song titles.
