Haha... This place is hilarious. People get so negative, like it's the end of the world, or something..?? Blame Game everywhere I look...
Did it ever occur to you that maybe Mariah doesn't care what your "dream album" is..?? She made an album that she evidently loves & that many of her true fans really appreciate. At the end of the day, that is all that matters in the big scheme of things.
Saying things like, "Mariah is over now...", just because of a #3 album debut - especially at this stage of her career - is actually really childish aye. Some of you are way too concerned w/ public opinion that it consumes you. Can you not make your own minds up..??
Love something because you love it, hate something because you hate it.

LOL, as much as I'm loving the idea of having new tracks (even if remixes) so soon, I gotta say that this idea is a bloody mess!

r.enato: Ok. That's cool... Let me ask you this though - would it be a "bloody mess" if that idea boosted sales..?? This is what I'm saying, it seems like peoples' opinions are so easily swayed by what's happening around them, that they can't just keep their minds set regardless of external circumstances.

The album doesn't need a comeback, it's incredible. The material is not the failure, it's the people in charge and the bad decisions being made. A remix album this soon is yet another bad idea. Sigh...

This is what I'm saying, it seems like peoples' opinions are so easily swayed by what's happening around them, that they can't just keep their minds set regardless of external circumstances. I don't know whose opinions you're talking about, but here goes mine: I loved Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel since the day the 30 seconds snippets leaked. When the album leaked in full, I could tell this was gonna be my #2 favorite Mariah album. About the sales: Would I appreciate if this had debuted at #1 with 400k? Totally. Will this #3 change my opinion about the album? No way. About the Remixed Album: once again, yay for new tracks (and a decent cover this time, I hope)! I adore her remixes and collect all official ones and if this Remixed Album boosts sales, yay². However, I don't see how that could happen since they'll be counted separately. Also, remixes should come as a breath of fresh air when certain song is about to peak, so it can gain some longevity. How can an already released (on an album) remix do that? That being said, I personaly feel that a Remixed Album should be released when the main one has ran its own course and the artist actually has hit remixes, which clearly is not the case. So, I call this a bloody mess because they seem to be doing the opposite of what's logical, in my opinion.

OK. So, I can't even read these last few 20 pages (and now we are on PART TEN!!) or so without replying first. I was in Europe, as some of you know, for the last couple weeks. I got back to Boston around 6:30 and was home by 7:30 from the airport but was in a manic state after all that flying and just being tired. I knew I had my Mariah CD waiting for me, since I pre-ordered it from Best Buy but I had played it in its entirety once before my trip and then a few more times when I was in Europe. I thought I could get sick of it. WRONG. I am on IWTKWLI now (after listening to the Daniel Merriweather album, having an Icelandic Schnapps shot with my roommate, having a smoke and some scotch, I finally got around to listening to the copy I uploaded from my official CD to ITUNES). This album is beyond amazing and the end of Angels Cry actually brought me to tears. I will go on record as saying this is Mariah's best album. Never has she sounded this connected to what she was singing, even on TEOM or her ever-exalted Butterfly. If this were last album she were to make, I would be happy, honestly. At least she went out with a bang. I am in awe of EVERY song, in one way or the other - whether it's the lyrics, the IMMACULATE production, her passion or the way her voice goes nuts in both the main vocals AND the background. By the end of the album, I need a cold shower or a nap or something. I am very proud of being a Mariah fan and I hope Mariah is as proud of making such a masterpiece. Each song POPS with life, even the remixes without re-sung vocals and I have only recently begun to appreciate dance music, after years of decrying it. Whatever this sells, I could honestly give a shit.

Well, I sure if this re-mix album does pan out she works with a number of artists she's never collaborated with before. I think she & Trey will have great chemistry.

Are the majority of people who are discussing her album sales disowning her or something? People act as if most are turning on her simply because of the poor sales (when most are just discussing the situation at hand, which is not a Pulse abnormality). lol Personally, the lackluster first week certainly isn't going to make me any less of a Mariah fan or make me love the album any less, but the sales do indeed make for interesting discussion. The final figure for this week would have been a huge topic regardless of whether she sold 400k or 100k.

The remix album needs to be available for download so people can download individual tracks. Island Records did not put the Platinum Edition of TEOM for download on purpose just to force fans to buy that album again.

So, I have a few thoughts I want to share:
1. Why are some people insinuating that, because some fans are worried/sad about the low sales, they (we) are turning their backs on Mariah? I'm not enjoying the album a bit less because of its low opening week sales or because it didn't debut at #1. I simply like to follow charts when it comes to Mariah. Would you say that people who follow the Olympic Games just to see if their favorite athlete breaks a world record are not enjoying the game itself? This is, to some of us, a sport, or a race, or whatever you wanna call it, and our money is on Mariah. We want her to break the records, or hold on to them, or create new ones, etc... but that doesn't take away from the fact that we enjoy her talent even more!!! That's why we became fans in the first place.
2. People on IDJ never learn. I am very anxious to see what this remixes thing will turn out to be. I hope, whatever they do, that it will ADD to Memoirs sales. We cannot simply scrap a whole album just because. A single, yes... and actually, PLEASE DO IT.
3. I personally have some issues in terms of production. People have PRAISED the production on this album, but I think that greatness is not consistent. Angels Cry is one of the most beautiful songs on the album and on Mariah's repertoire, but, come on, it is obvious that it was done quickly. Mariah wrote beautiful lyrics and created a beautiful melody and then they just added a drum loop and a piano. The song had much more potential. Same happens with songs like Standing O. I really like it, but it lacks a BOOM factor that, for example, Cruise Control has. On the other hand, tracks like H.A.T.E.U., Candy Bling, Betcha Gon' Know and even Obsessed are very well crafted.
4. I think H.A.T.E.U still has a chance of reviving this album. Now I thank God they sent IWTWLI so soon to radio and, thankfully, Obsessed is still pretty big so it might still benefit from its momentum. If such HAWT remix, as Mariah claims, exists, please send it now to Urb/Rhy at the very least.
5. It never ceases to amaze me how many h@ters this woman has. I definitely think that, for her next album, she's gonna have to come back BIG with something trendy if she wants to stay mainstream. Or simply slow it down and do music for herself. She could go indie and make music for the sake of it. Be free at last. This re-release thing is more about profits than artistry accomplishments. If she didn't have to respond in terms of sales to her record label, she could simply give a s**t. Of course the people at IDJ, who are 80% to blame on this, are going to milk her as much as possible.
6. Peace out! Do not listen to those mocking about lambs, Mariah, her sales or whatever. People always do this when those who are on top fall, or simply trip. Mariah has proven she is strong, and she IS. Now she's more secure, more stable and more GROWN UP. She'll be just fine ;)

I forgot to add something: this mess was also due to Mariah and/or her team wanting Grammy elegibility, which didn't even occur in the end. That's why the released Obsessed when the album was probably like at 50%, and then had to rush everything since they HAD to have the album out "soon" after the first single...

I disagree with your third point. SO has that BOOM that I feel CC is missing. I know SO is among most people's favorites. I like it, I really do, but again, drum beats, piano and only a nice weird sound on the second verse. Nothing really outstanding in terms of production. I also think JD knows how to layer Mariah's voice better. Someone earlier said something along the lines that, once the excitement because of the new material is gone, people's true opinions were going to come out and the appreciation for MOAIA would be diminished. I still think this is a very good album! And, contrary to what that person said, this has made me appreciate E=MC2 much more than when it was released LOL. Also, I am now LOVING "The Impossible" and I hated it a first so, no, I don't think time will make people hate it or like it a lot less. I think this album is a grower, so the exact opposite might actually happen.

It's a shame that this album was rushed. It makes me wonder is it the artist or the label that is rushing album releases. Mariah should have totally waited with this album. She probably would have had better results. Now she's in a position again that she has to rush out another album.

I think this album is a grower, so the exact opposite might actually happen. There was nothing wrong with E=MC2. Just wrong single choices by Island Records. And it doesn't help that a lot of Mariah fans look at that album in a negative way. That's probably why there was the rush release of MOAIA. Most albums release about four singles. E=MC2 had the four tracks that could have been singles. TEOM probably wouldn't have sold as well as it did if LA Reid released the singles that he wanted to release from TEOM.
