She's currently working on her debut album with Bloodshy & Avant to be released next year. She's signed to EMI. There's not too much material of her, just a collaboration with The Virgins (Teen Lovers) and a cover of Miike Snow' Animal. She also just put up a new song on her Myspace, Femme Fatale produced by Greg Kurstin. Her cover of Mike Snow's Animal: www.myspace.com/skyferreiramusic

Please say hello to Sky Ferreira. 2010 is almost upon us and with it comes a whole bunch of new artists pitching for space in your heads and hearts. Into this maelstrom steps the prodigiously talented Sky Ferreira. She's 17, from LA and gearing up to unleash her self-proclaimed "revolutionary pop album" on the world. It's chock-full of planet-sized potential hits, co-written by Sky in collaboration with the likes of Bloodshy & Avant, Greg Kurstin, Paul Epworth, Dallas Austin and Linda Perry.Sky has early press confirmed with Q, Dazed & Confused, ID, FHM, Company and RWD. She’s also building herself a great following on Myspace and Twitter. Her first single will be tickling the airwaves in the spring.Sky, in her own words...... My name is Sky Ferreira and I live in Los Angeles. I’m 17 years old (born July 8th, 1992) and I kind of miss my braces. I sang opera and gospel music my whole life. I started going out and doing promoting at, like, 14? I think so anyway. It feels a long time ago already. I became pretty aware of things that were going on culture wise – mostly about music. I would say fashion, but to be honest I’m pretty clueless about fashion. When I was 15 I made a demo with a friend who I met through someone I was "dating". Well, I had my first "heartbreak" over this boy who DUMPED ME FOR A GIRL FROM THE INTERNET IN ANOTHER STATE and the song ended up being about him. It was almost like a 15 year-old’s version of ‘Careless Whisper’ in outer space. I've never been SO grateful to have my heart crushed into a million pieces! Seriously, it turned into kind of a MySpace phenomenon. Anyway, I approached loads of producers, and constantly got rejected or given the old, "I'll give you a beat for $100,000". Well I ended up talking to these Swedish guys named Bloodshy and Avant, the Teddybears, and approached them with a slightly arrogant, non-professional MySpace message about my voice and song writing and why they should use me. They responded back and were interested, I was a bit shocked. I had a conversation with Bloodshy about my knowledge of music then suddenly he kind of took me under his wing. You should hear the music we’re making together. When I was younger I got to see many bands and DJs grow as artists by going out, even though most of the places were 18 or 21 and over, which is kind of ridiculous. I don't think there should be an age limit for music. For some reason a lot of my friends are way older than me, because most kids my age never seem to "get me". Maybe it’s because I was painfully shy when I was younger; awkward, and willing to wear / speak / do what I wanted to, even if I got a lot of criticism for it. I always felt like an adult even when I was six years old. I got to speak to a very influential man the other day who has inspired me a lot musically. I would say his name but the last thing I need to be is a name-dropper. Lots of people think that he is a weirdo or a creep; if he's a creep, I hope to meet more. Maybe I'm a creep also or the people who consider us "creeps" are really the creeps. We were on the phone and he analyzed me perfectly. He goes, "I know right now you're being polite because you really look up to me for some reason, but you're a very angry person. You've told a lot of important people in this business to fuck off and you've been fucked over countless times. You and I have something in common. You're a 17 year-old with a 70 year-old’s mind, and I'm a 70 year-old with a young person’s mind." You know, I'm a pretty nice person. I’m secretly insane though. I have insecurities just like everyone else, and growing up on the internet is pretty insane. My insecurities have inspired me musically to work harder. I think if you put them to good use it will get you really far. People talk about me. I talk about people sometimes. I don’t care. People talk about people and then, sadly, some people don't like you whether you did anything to them or not. So, thank you all the people who have called me things, done things to me, tried to humiliate me, and were straight-out-cruel. You have inspired me to do better. I can't pretend that it hasn't bothered me... Fuck, I cried last week in public and made a fool out of myself because of it. People who have really inspired me to succeed are the ones that have supported me the whole time through. It’s kinda weird to say it but, they’ve been my fans, and I seem to have millions on MySpace. So, I vow to make my FANS my first priority. I know that sounds corny as fuck, but they are what makes my career at the end of the day. I think people need a REAL PERSON out there. Someone who has fucked up, has gotten grounded, shopped at Target, been humiliated, who has really succeeded by doing something instead of having it done, but has had some pretty surreal fucking things happen to them . Record-deal bidding war, crazy producers approaching and....FREE CLOTHES!! My mood swings are never ending, I like to be versatile. I can't describe my "sound". Lyrically, vocally and attitude-wise you can tell it’s going to be Sky Ferreira. I’m doing a revolutionary pop album. The genre within a genre is endless. I want to be known as a performer and artist. Not a Fashion Girl, IT Girl, Party-Fucking -Photo Girl if that makes any sense. Hey, there isn't anything wrong with that, but it really isn't, well..."me". It gets pretty frustrating to be classified as that. I really think after my first album comes out you will get to know me a lot better than a written biography. And talking of which, gee, this bio is long as fuck. Imagine how long I‘ll rant by the time I'm 25!? My name is Sky Ferreira. I’m looking forward to getting to know you. From: hangout.altsounds.com/news/112833-please-say-hello-to-sky-ferreira.html

I don't know what it is about her, but I think she's ridiculously gorgeous. Objectively, I can say there's nothing particularly beautiful about her...but I don't know, it works for me.
Also...I'm excited about her album. I've been loving everything I've heard so far.

Hmm, girl comes across as a bit fake. I don't really notice anything distinct or unique about her voice. Meh. It'll be interesting to see if she makes it, though.

Our last top pop tip is the most intriguing of all. She landed her record deal when, displaying taste and chutzpah in equal measure, she sent a random MySpace message to 'Toxic' producers Bloodshy & Avant. The tracks she's since posted on her own page comprise a Nancy Sinatra-style retro number ('Femme Fatale'), a surf guitar-infused demo ('Great Mistake'), a Beatles/Dre mash-up and a remix to which she's contributed some wonderfully Lolita-ish vocals. Oh, and did we mention she's only 17, has impeccable LA style and looks like that? Ladies and gentlemen, meet Sky Ferreira. When you messaged Bloodshy & Avant on MySpace, were you expecting a reply?"Not really, because most people don't reply, but this was back when people were using MySpace more so it didn't seem impossible. I was pretty surprised though because they'd just had this platinum hit with Britney's 'Piece Of Me'." What happened next?"Bloodshy told me to go on iChat. We talked about music and he was a bit surprised by my knowledge because I'd only just turned 15 at the time. Then he asked me if I wanted to be the first artist on his new label." Without meeting you?"Yeah, pretty much. We didn't meet each other face to face for about two years actually. I was working with one of my friends out here, so I would email Bloodshy & Avant the song I'd written, they would kind of fix it, and it would just go back and forth. Then it started getting bigger and other producers jumped on board." The list of producers you've been working with is pretty mouth-watering. Do you get intimidated stepping into the studio with such established hitmakers?"The only one I really got nervous about was Linda Perry. People like Greg Kurstin and Paul Epworth are really calm, whereas she's very strong and intimidating. She knows what she's doing and she makes it clear! She has a very pop element to what she does, but she can make it really dark too. All her songs have a deep meaning." What sort of thing do you write songs about?"In general I observe people more than I actually do stuff, so I write about what I think is going on. When I was very young, like 15, I went through a phase of going out to nightclubs with older friends, so I write a lot about what I saw then. I'm willing to talk about things that a lot of people in the pop world won't talk about, like dating older people, getting a fake ID, gold-diggers..." Will any of the songs on your MySpace page make it onto your album?"They don't really fit on the album, but I'll definitely release them in some form. Well, I want to, but I need to find a way. Maybe they could be downloads from my website?" When will we get to hear stuff from the album?"I'd say Springtime - maybe March? I haven't put anything from the album online yet because I don't want to set myself up without finishing it properly. I want to be completely ready when I come out. I didn't work this long to be mediocre." You write in your bio: "I always felt like an adult even when I was six years old." Do you still feel older than you actually are?"Definitely - and I still feel like an outsider, even among adults. I'm one of those people who's always doing their own thing and looking in, but I don't mind that. I don't understand the way a lot of people are. I always want to be working and I don't understand people who don't feel like that. I think that's why I get offended when people try to paint me as some kind of socialite. I know some of those people, and I dress similar to them, but I'm not a party girl. I work a lot." How are you finding the attention you're starting to get?"I don't think it's affecting me... I'll take the free clothes though! You know, I've always been someone you either love or you hate, and that's definitely, well, increasing." You knew Michael Jackson while you were growing up. Did you notice the massive amount of attention he received?"Not really. My mum's a hair stylist and she worked with him for years and years, so I've known him since I was born. It never hit me how huge he was until recently. I always liked his music, but I never saw him as the biggest popstar in the world." What was he like?"He wasn't strange at all to me. He was very giving. Neverland was for ill kids and kids who couldn't afford to do stuff. I got to go all the time and it was a dream place for any kid. I think it's really sad that people turned stuff he did to be nice into something terrible. The respect those people have shown him since he died is what they should have shown him when he was alive." Finally, you tweeted about Jedward a few weeks back. Are you a fan?"Oh my God, I love Jedward! I was in London quite a lot over the fall and I would always watch X Factor when I couldn't sleep. Other people found them offensive, but I just found them amusing. They did great to get as far as they did." What if they sent you a message on MySpace asking for a song?"Of course! I would write them a song any minute! 'Ghostbusters' was

I like One. It's different, and cute and sweet. I'm kind of excited for her album since B&A are working on it.
