Already heard this on the radio this afternoon. No mention of it, just in the middle of regular rotation, as if it already belongs there.

I have not liked Muse's single choices so far this era. Not sure why, I just haven't been clicking with this album as much altogether though.

So...what's with "Resistance" making the move up the chart toward the top 70 now? Are they drydocking this one?
(Not that it really matters, of course...)
edit: Looks like KROQ decided this one. I guess with Muse playing KROQ's X-mas festival that they get to choose what the next single will be.
That KROQ X-mas festival looks in-credible, from bottom to top, btw. Hope they're still streaming that live online like they always have in the past!

I really want to see them live at Not So Silent Hill @ SF...
It's a shame it's the weekend before finals. Ugh.

So "Resistance" has reached the top 50 on Alternative.
Are they still planning on going with this, or are they gonna push "Resistance"? ???

This song is so much better than "The Resistance." They'd be making a huge mistake. If they let KROQ push them out of making the right choice...honestly, fuck KROQ, they're just an overrated big-market alternative station with a mediocre at best playlist. They're like the Yankees of alternative radio.

I don't know; I always thought "The Resistance" was more of a Muse track that everyone had come to know and love, while "Undisclosed Desires" is a little outside the box, and I questioned how open Alternative radio in the USA would be to playing a song that could just as well be a Justin Timberlake sample. Going on 14 weeks at #1 with their current hit, I'd say the traditional sound is the best option.
Still, I figured singles #2 and #3 were going to be either of these two songs from the very beginning though, so it isn't really a big issue.
But yeah, I'm totally with you on the KROQ.

Resistance is one of the only tracks on the album that I rarely listen to, Undisclosed Desires being exactly the opposite case, but I can see why UD would be a tricky one on Alternative. That being said, there are better songs than Resistance that aren't too much of a departure from Uprising ie. I Belong To You, possibly a shorter version of Unnatural Selection...

KROQ is like the Yankees of alternative radio. Excellent analogy. I do enjoy KROQ, though, for the fact that they're the flagship Loveline station and for their annual Almost Acoustic Christmas concerts. Plus, they're not mired down in the overall conservative, post-grunge tedium like the midwest is. I really ended up enjoying The Resistance. I'm not sure why the general consensus was that it was a litte underwhelming.

I love the album too. It's an interesting blend of classical influence and the old Muse charm. The whole album feels like a grand symphony.

I'd say it was a mixture of high expectations after Black Holes and pre-release reviews bigging it up as some life-affirming second coming.

"Uprising" 1st and "Starlight" 2nd. I was wondering the same thing, right now is the perfect time to launch single #2. I really hope it's "Undisclosed Desires".
Has it really been 14 weeks at #1 for "Uprising"?

It has been 16 weeks at #1, actually.
Nobody told me they were on SNL. F***!!! Well I guess it's not that hard to find. But I already know what they're playing and all.

So...why did they play "Starlight" on SNL this week? probably because its still one of the most well known songs in the US from them. U2 was on SNL earlier this year and played songs not from the new album....one was from Achtung Baby.

But it's not like this was a concert and they had to please their fans or something. They should have launched their second single on there. I hope it's Undisclosed Desires.

But to win an audience on national television, you want to play stuff you know the people will enjoy.

Honestly, I think they should just push "Resistance", now that it's charting.

Yes, I've been told that Kansas City's Alternative station is apparently an exception. I just wish I could take half of the spins from KRBZ's Top 50 and mix them in with half the spins of this. And guess what? KQQX (not monitored, and who I refer to as my secondary Alternative station) pretty much does that. Unfortunately for me, the cruel irony of moving to where I live right now (and have for the last 3 years) is that I'm pretty much in a KQQX dead zone with a 5-mile radius. And I work within that 5 miles, so I don't even normally get to listen in the car or anything like that.

At least you guys have an alternative station.Note that they are playing 5FDP's "The Bleeding" and "Stranger Than Fiction" more than their current single, or that "Indestructible" by Disturbed is their second most played song of the week. It would help if they'd play more current stuff. I mean the #50 song has one spin. (In all fairness there's programs that run on the college station, if I'm up late enough. But sometimes they don't announce songs when the good stuff is playing.)

Ouch. That looks pretty rough. But I'll be damned: Out of all the Pop stations that refer to themselves as "Kiss FM," the station that has those exact call letters is an Active Rock station! Per the Guinness ad campaign from a few years ago: "Brilliant!"

Per the Guinness ad campaign from a few years ago: "Brilliant!" An Active Rock station would probably be the only current-based format (along with [Mainstream] Rock) that would play KISS, after all.

With "The Resistance" sitting up at #37 now on alternative, should we
a) make a new thread for "The Resistance" assuming that this song will be released eventually.
or
b) change the title of this thread?

Thankfully, I've seen this before Artie. Otherwise a new thread titled Resistance (Muse) would have been created. Just changing the title would be easier.
