that is amazing for muse!
guys i don't know if anyone else had already asked that question, when it was the last time that an artist had the #1 and the #2 on the alternative rock chart? or is that the first time?

I think it could be the first time.

While it's been strongly hinted in this thread that it could happen, no one has stated that today marks the day that Muse holds the top 2 spots on alternative:
lw TW Artist Title TW lw Move Aud 5 1 MUSE Resistance 1567 1381 186 6.899 2 2 MUSE Uprising 1437 1521 -84 8.384
Granted, this is a mid-week update, and Flyleaf is hot on "Uprising" 's tail so I doubt this will hold up as an official top 2 on alternative, but this at least shows that there was a week from Tuesday of last week through Monday of this week, where Muse had the top 2 most played songs at alternative radio. And considering Sunday is an arbitrary cut off point, that's good enough for me.

If it doesn't make it to the official cutoff date then it will not go down in history as having been the top 2. The mid weeks are cool to watch but they don't mean a thing in the end. Actually what this sadly says is that there needs to be better material out there on the alternative scene or that it's time to get more push behind the lesser weights.
This would be okay if these songs were released around the same time but Uprising is only hanging around so high because of lack of competition

I remember seeing that Muse was 1-2 when I checked on Monday morning, which would mean they were 1-2 for the ween ending last week...

Well Sunday is official for mediabase. Monday is official for billboard. So in all likelihood, there's a good chance Muse will have the top 2 billboard alternative rock songs this week, but that hasn't been made official yet I don't believe.

Actually what this sadly says is that there needs to be better material out there on the alternative scene or that it's time to get more push behind the lesser weights. Well you are definitely right in that we have a pretty weak chart right now. But we have had weak charts in the past, and the fact that nobody has ever stepped up and taken two of the top three positions even on the weakest of weak charts in the past is almost as amazing as if it would have happened on a strong chart! :). This would be okay if these songs were released around the same time but Uprising is only hanging around so high because of lack of competition But if they were released at the same time, the panel would just simply get behind whichever song KROQ decided to get behind. That's why "Resistance" is #1, while "Undisclosed Desires", the original and true followup to "Uprising", is on the shelf, out of sight out of mind, having never even hit the chart (yet).

Had it been released on time we might have an all-Muse top three right now.

I mean if you REALLY have nothing better to do than press F5 all night then be my guest, but if you wanna get some sleep, or go for a walk, or call that really hot girl from work but you've never had the guts to ask out, then by all means...do that instead and just hook us up when you get the chance. Thanks man!

I love this. Hehe I just wanted him to know we have his back. In other news, Muse has returned to the top 2 spots on alternative due to Flyleaf losing spins. If it holds up for tomorrow, it will be official after all! And if it can hold up through Monday...Billboard too baby!

Ok no one has said anything, but just so it's been archived:
lw TW Artist Title TW lw Move Aud 1 1 MUSE Resistance 1573 1517 56 6.717 3 2 MUSE Uprising 1446 1457 -11 8.521
It's OFFICIAL!!! Top 2 songs on mediabase alternative on the OFFICIAL update!!! Did I mention it's official yet? OFFICIAL!!!
I still stand by that having only the Sunday update count is ridiculously arbitrary.

so you think that they should have EVERY SINGLE DAY be an official chart? Is that what you are saying?
Sunday is arbitrary. But they had to pick a cut off day, if they had picked Tuesdays, you'd say that was completely arbitrary. You need to relax on that and just accept that it is what it is.

Did Resistance ever get released to CHR/Pop? I know Uprising got some spins here and there and still lurks on the nether reaches of the chart, but Uprising is more of a traditional alt/rock tune; Resistance has a much more pop feel to it.

I actually think the opposite. People here were comparing the beat of "Uprising" to a Christina Aguilera song when it first came out.

I can't help but think of Blondie's "Call Me" every time I hear "Uprising," lol.

Don't get me wrong: Uprising is a terrific song. To my ear, it just didn't seem as accessible to pop radio as Resistance.

Did Resistance ever get released to CHR/Pop? Not yet, it hasn't. It's still fairly new to Alternative radio...

While the song has officially vacated the top spot on alternative today, it has also officially reached the top 50 on active
62 50 MUSE Resistance 86 65 21 0.235
A consolation prize?

Wow, I didn't think this sounded like a song Active would touch. EDIT: on second thought, I can hear it a little in the chorus.
I think they should release Unnatural Selection once this leaves the top 5. Keep building on the goodwill they're getting from Active.

Well I think Muse has reached the top 50 on active several times in the past just because there are several stations all owned by the company Cumulus Broadcasting that are basically alternative stations in disguise. And right now, more than half of those 86 plays are coming from 2 Cumulus stations that have it in heavy rotation.

This song climbs back to #1 on the Alternative Songs chart. I thought Mountain Man would be up there again but I guess not.

muse.mu/shop/product/245/exogenesis/menu/4/singles/Too bad the B-sides are just live, or I'd actually consider that one. The idea that Muse would have one of those is badass. I actually thought that maybe it was for RSD, but realize that the Wikipedia-listed date would be Monday, 2 days late. Oh: That "Uprising" single cover art rules. Not as much as the cover art for the 2009 singles from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but that's not too far behind.
