This article was written for its 20th anniversary. Brings back a lot of great memories to me being 13 and jamming to tracks like "Trust A Try", "China Love", "You Ain't Right", "Son of A Gun", "Truth", and "When We Oooh". I agree with the person on Twitter saying "China Love, When We Ooo, Trust A Try. So many great deep cuts. Her post-divorce album from Renee. She went to work". Hugely underrated album like 20 Y.O.

The "Truth" lyrics are pretty powerful. "Truth" is the best song on the album to me. It's a real grown up breakup song. I kind of wish it had started the album as it could have introduced the theme of her moving on and enjoying being single. One of the biggest drops in quality I've ever seen from an artist. After the masterpiece that was TVR, she released THIS? I was a Janet stan and FANATIC when this album came out, and even then I was like WTF. Just abysmal. And in retrospect, it's even worse. The tracks I used to think were decent ("You Ain't Right," "Trust A Try," "COGU," "SOAG") sound awful and dated. That slog of sex jams is just ridiculous. Jimmy Jam and Terry brought nothing innovative or interesting production-wise like they had in the past. At the end of it, all I'm left with is "All For You" and "STCML," which are both cute and enjoyable, but get almost not replay value compared to her other hits. And "Feels So Right," which is pleasant background noise. Ha I kind of feel the same way in that it hasn't aged well to me, and more so feels redundant apart from the 'newly single' energy of some tracks as she hadn't really done that before. I will read the article π―π² lucy88 π―π² posted. Since I saw Janet in concert this week, I do want to revisit some projects to see if my thoughts have changed.

Literally, could say the same with Damita Jo, except the sex jams took up the majority of the album and they were grossly my least favorites.
