Oh, ew, that dude wrote "If U Seek Amy" and the second crappiest Idol coronation song ever, "Inside Your Heaven." I'll give him some points for writing Lesley Roy's "Psycho B*tch" and Shontelle's "T-Shirt." But he's very pop.

Is this thing seriously set to be released in the summer? I've seen no buzz about it anywhere. I got my latest Rolling Stone, and they profiled a whole crapton of Spring/Summer releases, and Cook was nowhere to be seen anywhere.
I like Cook, but he needs to make an extremely catchy CHR album this time around to stay relevant.
Apparently RCA is hooking Cook up with everyone that worked on Adam Lambert's album.
BTW Savan Kotecha wrote Adam's song "If I Had You" and has worked alot with Britney Spears. Um, really Cook? Europop dance music is your new sound? Ok then.
I will laugh uncontrollably if Cook puts out an electropop album, but it seems like that's what RCA is doing with him.

It's a little odd they're trying to push him in the pop direction, I thought they'd do the opposite and try to push a rockier edge for him. I guess we'll see how it works out.

It's smart when you think about it. Cook was praised the most on AI when he made pop songs a bit edgier. So give him some pop songs and lets see what he can do with them. lol.

EmoJ-I think it's odd too, considering his hardcore fans were saying over and over how much more "rock" and "band sounding" his sophomore album will be and how it'll be similar to "Analog Heart" and yet they are hooking him up with Adam and Britney's songwriters.

Yeah, I have a feeling this isn't going to go over too well with his core fanbase. But we'll see how the pop audiences respond. They weren't too supportive of his first album so I'm not sure why his label would think it'd be a good idea to go make a pop album but we'll see how it goes I guess.

Well, I don't think he's making a pop album. Most of those people have some pop/rock credits, only that savan guy doesn't, and they were apparently writing in a trio with a guy who did.
And they are not "Adams co-writers" LOL - this seems to be part of the 19 stable of go-to guys. I looks like they are looking for some crossover hits.
I will try to find the list someone on DCO complied of everyone he's working with. Most of the songs we know about (15 or so of the 30) are co-written by DC and rock types. There have only been a handful of collaborations with pop types. The other 15 are assumed to be written by David and his band.
The release date hasn't been set. They are talking about summer but no one is sure, it might easily be the fall.
And I thought the fans were dramatic! LOL j/k

Okay, I found it. As per imogen_ph at DCO:
UPDATED (as of 3/05/10). Running Tally: Songs for DCTR2*
David Cook - Make Believe (1)
Collaborations:
Raine Maida & Chantal Kreviazuk - at least 1 song Neal Tiemann and/or The Anthemic - With Me Empty (1) Gregg Wattenberg - at least 1 (aka The Vlog song) John Rzeznik - at least 1 [may be same song written w/ Gregg Wattenberg?] Sam Hollander & Dave Katz (aka Sam & Sluggo) - at least 1 song Claude Kelly - 2 songs Calude Kelly & Matt Squire - at least 1 song (may be 1 of songs written w/ Claude Kelly?) Brian Howes - Boomerang + 1 other song (2) David Hodges - You & I + Tonight is on Our Side (2) Tommy Henriksen - at least 1 song Kevin Griffin - at least 1 song Savan Kotecha & Andrew Frampton - at least 1 song
Total = 15 to 16 songs
*The list is a minimum based on what we know from Twitter (tweets by @thedavidcook and the songwriters), David's vlog and various interviews.
_______________________
So he said in a recent interview they were aiming to have abut 40 songs and had completed about 30. The <15 missing songs are presumably the ones he worked out while on tour with the band. He wrote Kiss on The Neck with his lead guitarist, who also writes for and used to play with Burn Halo. Some of the 10 remaining songs will probably be completed during this Sweedish swing.. he'll be there for a week.
Looks like a rock record to me.
I actually don't expect it will be much different from the last one. I bet it will still be HAC friendly with a couple of hooky pop friendly pop-rock songs thrown in.

All of the songwriters (Lambert's or otherwise) are completely irrelevant. What matters is the time lapse in between singles (his last one was released in April of 09) and the promotional opportunities available. Idol fans have moved on to the next big thing and that cuts into a lot of the core fanbase. HAC can only do so much for sales as it is a relatively small format. Pop radio can't stand him and won't touch anything involving him with a ten-foot pole. He would need a huge label push and RCA has never provided him with a good amount of support. His management is probably near bankruptcy after all of the money spent on another venture and they have moved beyond providing him with promotion. It doesn't leave him in a very good position for album number two.

Yeah I kinda think Cook will have to "start over" as a new artist when his album drops-at least on Pop radio. It's been way too long

Way to go, 19!! If there was any doubt left in anyone's mind that Cook is second tier to them, this should erase that. Seriously, having him on now with nothing to promote? What a waste. But, I guess it's a way to get his obligatory performance done and over with for them while at the same time making it seem as if they are at least half-ass doing their job.

It's still exposure and keeps his name and face out there. Same could be said about his appearance on Carrie Underwood's TV show back in the fall when he didn't have anything that he was openly promoting at that time. Be lucky he has these opportunities. Most artists don't.

I wish he at least had something new to promote. Maybe he'll surprise us? Unlikely, I know. I'm just dying to hear some of his new stuff.

Maybe he'll do a new song? We know he has at least one that's ready to go since they performed it in concert.

I don't think he'll do anything new without an iTunes release. It would be pointless to sing something that isn't available to purchase. He may just sing something off his first album--like "Heroes" or something.

Apparently David will be singing a Rolling Stones song on Idol. Wow. That's sad. He's singing the same theme as the contestants, but Ke$ha and Orianthi get to sing their own stuff? That sucks.

Yeah, a performance on Idol is always great exposure...but the timing isn't great.

Well, if they have time to do 3 performances per results show this time (I guess trimming the fat?) then there's a chance he could come back to perform his real next single, should he release it before the end of the season.
But it is odd. Then again, he's with 19M, and they almost never miss an opportunity to throw one of their clients in front of the Idol cameras.

That sucks. my thoughts exactly. why bring him back to do basically karaoke? ??? last week, they had 2 s8 contestants doing the same thing, singing a cheesy billy joel song when they had cd's to promote. it makes no sense, and seems like a step backwards. the face time for him is good, but dayum, i heard all the karaoke from cook i wanted to hear in s7.

Well David's performance will probably be released to itunes like Kris's Let It Be. He might have a new single out by the finale.

There's been zero mention of David's performance being released to iTunes, but we knew way ahead of time that Kris' would be.

I don't think it matter what he sings to the casual viewer. All he has to do is sound good. After he's done, Ryan will stick a mike in his face and let him talk about his new album. Hopefully, people will be all warm fuzzy a la "I remember that Cook guy! He's so great, I'm gonna check for that album when it drops" or some shyt. Mission accomplished. LOL
The only people who care about a cover will be the internet posting types like all of us in here. Nobody obsesses about stuff like that except us. :)

It could prove to be a brilliant move in terms of exposure. Since most of the singers this year are so lame, David's likely to look damn good in comparison. The exposure during a down time for him is a good thing.
In reference to the writers, I don't see David changing course. I'd guess they'll be looking for a few chr friendlier songs with some of them, maybe a bit more of a pop influence. But having gone platinum with the first album, I don't see them trying to change him too much.

I'm just so happy to see him on TV again, IDGAF what he sings. Cook's been MIA for way too long.
Sympathy for the Devil would be fun.
