On a sad note, the lead singer of the Goth metal band Type O Negative, Peter Steele passed away on wednesday evening. Thought to be heart failure. www.fmqb.com/article.asp?id=1771953This is one band that should have done far better on radio. "Everything Dies" and "I Don't Wanna Be Me" are cracking tracks that should have peaked far higher.

Okay, so I have to admit I had never even heard of this band. Not sure why, they just were never on my radar and I sure don't have many friends that would listen to them.
So I went and checked out a few songs and I have to say that "Everything Dies" is definitely a cool song. I love the distinctive voice Peter Steele had. I guess I'll have to go through the discography and see what gems I come up with.
It is a sad day for their fans, its seems he was really well liked and respected.

I really can't say I know any songs by memory from them, but I have heard a few before. I know they were huge in the underground industrial metal scene and many kids in my high school during the late 90s and early 00s listened to them. It's never good to hear stories like this, even if I really don't know the band well.

Deeply saddened to read the news this morning. I own all their studio albums, except the first two, which I do have on my hard drive, but aren't necessarily worth purchasing. I got to see them play live twice. Quite the opposite of Curtis, Type O is probably one of the most popular bands across the largest number of my high school friends. Like, I'm having trouble thinking of another band a particular rough dozen of us would agree on more.
Their epic, morose, and often beautiful music was full of bone-dry, often black humor. Live, Pete was always cracking smart-aleck insults at his bandmates and at the audience. I mean, just go to Wikipedia and read the overviews of each of their albums and you'll get an idea just how funny Peter and the guys really are.
Bloody Kisses and October Rust are pretty much their best two albums.
If I were to make a collection of their best songs, I'd choose:
Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity Christian Woman Black No. 1 [Their signature song] We Hate Everyone Love You to Death My Girlfriend's Girlfriend Wolf Moon Everyone I Love Is Dead Creepy Green Light Everything Dies I Don't Wanna Be Me Dead Again Halloween in Heaven

I think for me it just came down to most of my friends, except for a couple are not on the same wavelength musically as I am but the bigger factor was that being a few years older, they weren't really around when i was in school AND to be perfectly honest, I didn't listen to a lot of that type of music back then. I was much more rooted in the contemporary radio bands at the time, like STP, Pearl Jam, REM, Third Eye Blind, Garbage, Cranberries, OLP and that type. I didn't really start to appreciate the heavier, gothier music until into the 2000's
