Ok so these artists were a bit under the radar and overlooked when they just came out. But which one of these albums changed their life around dramatically? Which album launched them to worldwide credibility and superstar status.

Trey Songz? Missundaztood/Good Girl Gone Bad Confessions Not dissing on Trey's album, but its hardly done anything worthy of being put up with these albums. Oh and you forgot Breakaway.

It wasnt about sales. But Kelly Clarkson was waaayy famous b4 Breakaway. She is an american idol you know. Trey Songz never even went gold before ready. therefore it is his career defining album.

The problem with the poll is that there isn't one answer. "Which artist's album transformed them into superstardom?" It can be all four of them
I'd say everyone except Trey though. He ain't no "superstar" C-list at best.

Well, yeah, but Usher was already famous too before Confession came out and had massive #1s with U Remind Me and U Got It Bad. But I don't think Confessions really defined him though. It was just a slightly superior album with more club-ready music. Good Girl Gone Bad though did Rihanna the most than most of the albums mentioned. The image and sound were effortlessly transformed and catapulted her to the likes of the Britney and Beyonce of the music business and hasn't gone down since

^You were the only one so far that god the idea I was trying to promote. I guess its the question i wrote. But I was talking about the sound of the album that defined them.

Breakaway of course. It was definitely career defining. She only had 1 or 2 hits before the album and people thought she was done with. Then she came with Breakaway and had 5 hits and she was one of the most popular artists of the year and won 2 grammys. If that isn't a career defining album, I don't know what is.

Breakaway would be the correct answer for what pushed Kelly into superstardom but it is in NO way career defining. She's been working hard not to have Breakaway 2.0 and not have that album define her career. Anyway, now that I understand the question better I'd say Good Girl Gone Bad. Like someone said Usher was already a big act when confessions came out. Before Mizunderstood I pretty much knew pink would have a lasting career. BUT when Rihanna came out with Pon De Replay I could've sworn she was going to be a 1-hit wonder. tbh I thought her and Lumidee where the same person . So Rihanna wins.

I'm gonna go with P!nk ... Mizzundastood pretty much showed the world who she is and really introduced her to the pop world.

Well, it proved you could be successful from American Idol. People thought she was done with after her first album (which only had 2 hits). It defined her career as in it proved she can "breakaway" from her Idol image along with make smash hits and top the charts. That is career defining. If you're talking from an artistic standpoint, perhaps My December I guess?

Yeah, I remember I was also completely convinced Rihanna would be a one-hit-wonder, so I'm going with GGGB, and I think I'm Not Dead or even Funhouse was more career defining than her second album.

I think most of you are not getting the idea. I guess the thread started wanted to know which album defined the artist, not what made the artist into a superstar. I get all the Breakaway response. She went from somewhat r'n'b, soul tinged music to pop/rock with Breakaway, but I'm still more amazed at the direction of Rihanna's music. Her carribean music with Pon De Replay and SOS were and second rate ate best, but after GGGB, her music has gotten better and has matured

However, Breakaway (like GGGB) was a huge improvement compared to her first album as well. So, I guess it's really about opinion.

Pink but Rihanna is close. I went with Pink because she changed her sound and has really stuck with it, and owned it. GGGB was a great direction for Rihanna, but switched things up a bit (for the better) with RR.
