Don't know how many Open House Party fans we have on these boards, but it's been in topics before, so I figure someone besides me must like it. :)
Anyway, Wilmington, DE's WSTW, one of the least-mentioned CHR reporters on these boards, has added Open House Party to Saturday nights. This means the show is finally receivable in the Philadelphia market. Also, I believe WSTW is the only Saturday night OHP afflilate streaming online at this point.

www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WSTW&service=FM&status=L&hours=UWell with that signal how come WSTW is only in and out of the Philadelphia ratings compared to the other nearby/suburban station, WPST, which is consistently in the 1s in Philadelphia? There are too many monitored CHR-Pop stations not talked about here to name simply because there's not going to be somebody here from every monitored market and not many people like us who will talk about CHR-Pop stations in any market for reasons other than complaining about their airplay and when they change formats. In Binghamton, NY, Clear Channel gave up on CHR-Pop WMRV (Star) which has lost over 12 shares since Citadel challenged them with WWYL (Wild), so I won't get to hear Open House Party in the area anymore if I wanted to unless WWYL picks it up.

Oh I am so freaking annoyed right now... I typed this long post to reply and my login time expired and it was completely lost. Oh well.. here was the gist: 1) Signal reach. The map is too generous to STW and not generous enough to PST. I used to live just inside the red circle of both signals and PST was crystal-clear, while STW had some dropouts. 2) Adjacent channels. 93.7 has Philadelphia stations 0.4 MHz on either side of it: 93.3 and 94.1. The radios most people use are not that selective and have trouble with 93.7. The closest full power Philadelphia station to 97.5 is 0.6 MHz away at 98.1. On car radios, both come in well, but on less selective boomboxes and walkmen, 97.5 has a distinct advantage. 3) Target area. PST heavily targets Bucks County, PA, which is in the Philadelphia market, with billboards and appearances. STW mostly ignores anything outside of Delaware, calling themselves "Delaware's #1 choice for hit music" while PST goes for the less region-specific "#1 for today's hit music". 4) Format. Everything about PST sounds big-market: the presentation is high-energy, the music is tight and current. STW sounds like a small-market station, with a very broad library (going back to the 70's... that's pretty wide for a CHR) and very little rap. It works great in Wilmington, which only has two big FM signals, but the big-market PST sound goes over better in Philly. I like both stations. PST is my favorite in the Philly area and STW is 2nd. I prefer CHRs that have the big-market sound, but I appreciate that STW plays pop/rock tracks that the Philadelphia stations ignore. I also like the "A-game" night show on STW... it's more topical and less teenage-shout-out-oriented than PST's. STW also has an edge in specialty shows, with Backtrax 90's and now OHP, whereas PST has none.

Regardless of how many local FMs it has, remember that the Wilmington ratings have no shortage of radio stations, in fact its Philadelphia which has a low number of stations in the ratings for a market that big. Wilmington has WSTW and WJBR along with WJKS from New Jersey and WXCY from Maryland which have okay ratings in Wilmington and don't appear in the Philadelphia ratings. www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/locate?select=city&city=Wilmington&state=DE&x=7&y=0 lists 18 commercial FM stations and 16 of them are less than 30 miles away. None of those other stations have contended for #1 in the ratings since I've started following them though. It's always WSTW and WJBR. Even though the Philadelphia stations come in well in the highly populated parts of the market, Delawareans much prefer the 2 big local stations. I guess that means STW and JBR are really doing something right, or the locals just don't like the big city stations. True, but that's why I said "closest full power station". 97.1 is not a full-power station, and I've never had it cause any reception problems with PST. Even if it did, the 93.7 situation with 2 full-power second-adjacent stations is much worse.

Does WSTW repeat the show at midnight EST? One thing I always noticed about the Saturday-only affiliates was that they always repeated the show after the initial live airing. WRVW did it when I was last in Nashville and WYOY also did it when they used to air OHP.

I do know of two OHP affiliates that run only the Saturday show, but NOT the repeat at midnight: WAEB-FM, Allentown, PA and WRTS, Erie, PA.

Too bad WSTW didn't pick up the Sunday version. Does anyone listen to the Sunday version of OHP? How is Kane doing?
Can OHP be heard on satelitte radio?

Well, thanks to a 3AM drive through Delaware last night(don't ask ;)), I can actually give the answer to this question: WSTW does not repeat the show at midnight on Saturday nights.
