I get what you're saying, and yes, it makes sense. I guess we won't really know. I mean, come on, Danity Kane had s**t for promo or airplay when their albums were released, yet look how big they opened. I'm just saying, a reality show can do wonders for album sales. Even Monica saw good numbers. Exactly. Idk what is so hard to get about reality shows being a BIG help for artists... IKR? Ask Ashlee Simpson. Or her sister for that matter. Those reality shows have always been good for sales. And hers was the top rated one on VH1 right? Plus her lead single blew up on UAC and Urban. Why is it so hard to understand that Fantasia is popular in R&B? She always has been. She's seeing similar numbers as people like Monica and Keysha Cole. Both are R&B females with popular TV shows. Plus she had a big hit last go around and is coming off a long run in a play that was extremely popular in the black community. Its not rocket science.

Here's an idea...both the reality show and Fantasia's near-death boosted sales.
I hope Eminem stays above 100k and that Mumford & Sons can get another increase to sell 20k+.

I am sure MJ had several near deaths experiences but of course this was always hidden from the public. His health had been in constant decline since the early ninties. I am even surprised he didnt die earlier
And the pressure of the o2 concerts was too much to bare. He couldnt handle the pressure very well and i think u cant really blame the doctor coz MJ could always get his way and the medication he needed but of course the body can only take so much abuse

People easily forget about Fantasia's success in the R&B market with the 2nd single of her last album though: - "When I See U" became her first single to top the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, remaining at the number one spot for EIGHT consecutive weeks. - The song is one of only 14 songs to ever spend over a year on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and is the eighth longest running song in the chart's history (57 weeks) - In December 2009 Billboard named it the 8th biggest hit of the decade on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart Those are quite the achievements I would say.... People don't forget - most people don't know. Most people don't follow the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart or Urban radio. I voted for Fantasia on season 3 of AI and bought her first album, and I couldn't tell you what "When I See U" sounds like. The suicide attempt jolted her back into most people's consciousness. It made me listen to her new album on AOL music, and consider buying it. Likely others did the same.

Once again, those people are not Fantasia's and/or R&B's loyal fanbase, which does just fine without 'most' knowing.

I think the point some of us are trying to make though is that when people assume her sales are overly attributable to the phenomenon you describe, they discount the R&B fanbase she already has. And no matter how many pieces of evidence that can be presented to show that fanbase was already there pre-scandal (top rated reality show, lots of coverage in black media outlets and blogs, songs at the top of the Urban and UAC charts) - factors that have lead to big opening weeks for similar artists - we keep hearing "nah, but me and my friends didn't know about it so it can't be true.", LOL. Its just so damn... arrogant. At least that's how it feels to me. Ah well.

If it wasn't a hit on Pop, then it was a flop. Such an elitistic attitude

Have to say that 194K is disappointing for a record that should have sold about 300K based on two HUGE singles.

^^^
"Slow and steady wins the race", "it's a marathon not a sprint", "it's not about how you start but how you finish", etc, etc
She will be fine. Looking right at 1.5 Million + when the era is over. If she does a re release then possibly more.

It will max out at 1.5m if extremely lucky PS: She should have kept her trap shut on the Lady GaGa video..... then I would have bought this album, instead of P2P downloading it, and deleting the trash songs (which are far too many).

Are you privy to some inside information others aren’t? Didn’t think so. Instead of trolling message boards making disparaging comments about the King Of Pop (whose catalog sales are a plenty and has a legacy that is signed, sealed, and delivered for eons to come), you’re better off focusing on your own hero whose last 3 CD album was such a piss poor seller that Target is still discounting it to $4.99 to help get it off the shelves.

Shame Carrie is outta the top 50. Taylor just continues to sell, WOW. At this rate, "Fearless" will stay in the top 50 for the rest of the year as the release of "Speak Now" will surely boost the sales of the former.

Are sales really that bad these days that an album with 2 big hit can not even crack 200k?

That kinda makes me wonder what it will be like in a few years from now. Will there be a new kind of how music is sold on the way?

Yeah, that's why her singles are selling in the millions and she's scoring the highest female debut of the year so far.

It ain't 133,000, but it's close. If she loses no more than half that tally (61,000) for next week's sales, and fares decently in the weeks thereafter, 350,000 should be a lock. But J Records will have to choose her next song (to push to radio) very carefully.

Usually, I guess except in Fantasia's case, national headlines creates additional exposure. There is probably no possible way that someone learned of Fantasia's new album through the suicide article on CNN rather than on VH1? Getting national headlines is usually a powerful marketing tool when you are trying to push an album. The way to test this is to see where the album stands two to three weeks from now. All you need to do is ask Britney if that kind of press brings sales. Blackout is her lowest selling studio album and was released when her media profile was at its highest. Bad press etc. doesn't sell albums. Radio successes, good reviews, massive television promotion does. Anyway, I thought you weren't interested in any of this? And no, the test won't be to see where the album stands two to three weeks from now. I imagine it will be where 80% of albums are after three weeks. With decreased numbers each week...as the promotion dries up, her album is taken off the new release shelves etc. And then if and when another single starts to take off, you'll see her album sales grow again. It's very basic knowledge that most people that take the time on Pulse should know. I still cannot believe you're still here, hammering away, with liberal use of the "" coupled with suicide attempt, demanding explanations that you are not owed. Over and over and over and over again. DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING!!!

But bad press did make people notice Blackout and 'Gimme More' way more than they would have without it. Record sales had receded drastically since the early 00s and it wasn't going to sell as much as her earlier records anyway. Blackout may have been her worst selling album, but it made Britney a prolific artist again. She went on to have more hit singles and an even better selling album in 'Circus'. In the same vein as Britney, Fantasia would probably not sold as much this week if it weren't for her whole suicide fiasco. You're forgetting one thing: The album before that (I believe it was In The Zone) sold more than 2 million. Publicity for Brit was non-stop leading to Blackout, but it still flopped compared to its predecessor. Your last 2 sentences are based on flawed logic. How can you apply a statement, regarding an upcoming album's followup ( Circus, Brit's followup to Blackout), to someone else's upcoming album (Tasia's Back To Me)?

Katy isn't exactly releasing the type of music that makes people roar out to the stores and buy in bulk. A remake of a song that is less than a year old might get radio play and might get a lot of "hey its a fun summer song!" one dollar buys, but it isn't exactly the type of single and song that makes people trust in the album. Teenage Dream is better, but I think the real sales will come with layering of the next few hits and hopefully at least one unique, classic hit. Just under 200K is fine for her, in other words-even good-for the type of singles she does have supporting it so far. We will see if it holds up or collapses. I really doubt it will sell under a million, but then again so many people thought Kesha would sell at least 2 with her big opening and big hits and I am not sure it will even hit 1.5. It really depends.
