d) IS IT WALTER AFNAASIEF ON BOARD??? PLEASE TELL ME YES!!! :'( Yes, Walter A. is involved in the project. Actually, Mariah is cheating on Nick with him, and there are strong rumors that he's the father of 2 of the triplets Mariah's carrying.

At least a new Mimi Christmas album should sell pretty well. This will probably end up being her second best selling album of the 2000's. And it only has to sell like 1.3 million to take that title.

^^ If she strikes the right chord with the public, it seems possible. Especially with this supposed HSN thing.

Is anyone actually believing this Christmas project could push one million copies domestically? Christmas albums these days rarely move any significant amount of units and when they do they're released by artists who appeal to older demographics (something Mariah just doesn't do, maybe in the early 90s). Even if Mariah were to mature her image and sound with this album mature audiences aren't suddenly going to flock to stores to purchase it (it would take years for her to broaden her demographic again). At this point, I'd say the best-case scenario would put the album around 500k.

The thing about Mariah and Christmas music is that, in my world, at least, it isn't age specific. When people aged 10-40 are asked about popular Christmas music, I would think they'd easily mention Mariah Carey. She's made so many fans of ONLY her Christmas album (I've met many people who do not enjoy anything Mariah Carey... "except her Christmas cd"). Her first Xmas album sold well for two reasons: first, she is Mariah. Second, she made a timeless Xmas album that people wanted to hear for years to come. Christmas albums that actually sound like Christmas sell well. And Mariah will make waves in the Xmas music world because of the success she's had in the past. If she re-creates the classic Christmas sound, like she did for Merry Christmas, she wont have any troubles selling well this season.
Even a new Xmas album by Sting went Gold last year... and he doesn't have nearly the same Xmas clout that Mimi does.

The thing about Mariah and Christmas music is that, in my world, at least, it isn't age specific. I wouldn't say Christmas music itself is age-specific. I'm simply saying it's typically artists who attract more mature audiences who find success with Christmas releases (Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli etc). I personally couldn't see the majority of younger audiences rushing out to purchase a Christmas release. I think Mariah would be mentioned in reference to the Christmas juggernaut "All I Want For Christmas Is You", but I'm not so sure her album itself would find many mentions. It seems most of the appreciation (if not all) I've seen for the album comes from her diehard fans (similar situation as Celine, whose Christmas album was just as successful). I think her Christmas album performed well for two reasons: it was released at a time when she was extremely popular and it was good. I seriously doubt the success of her first Christmas album will affect (in any way - positive or negative) her new Christmas album to be honest. Well, I couldn't even begin to argue or (know how to) rank an artist's "Xmas clout", but I think there are many factors that act against this release selling over a million copies domestically. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

At this point, I'd say the best-case scenario would put the album around 500k. I don't think it will sell a million in the US. Especially given how her last two CDs sold. I do think it's possible for it to do well for a non-studio album though, I just don't know how much. Mariah was HUGE back then, so I agree that's partially what helped her to sell so much of the first Christmas album.

Angels Cry made it to #26 on AC which was the first time for her since Butterfly that two songs from one album charted on AC.

Already with the bleak sales predictions. Anyway, anyone know what's up with Mariah Daily? Did they forget to pay their server bill again? It's been down since yesterday...

I wouldn't worry much about sales, for several reasons:
1) At this point in Mariah's career, what does she have left to prove? 2) Given the current sales climate, 500k is actually quite good. Not amazing, but it's no flop. With the right material, this Christmas album should be able to pull off 500k. 3) It's a Christmas album. If the album were to spawn a holiday hit even half the size of AIWFCIY, it well sell alright in coming years, probably better than a lot of her older albums. 4) Who cares? We get new Mariah music in less than two months!!!

weaver - thankss for the info! r.enato - LMAO! I can't wait for da first single. I think this album will sell around 500k which is not bad. It's a Christmas album and is released a year after her last album whichh was released a year after her previous albujm. CANT WAIT! feels like Christmas already!

Which makes her an AC staple (or even gives her a strong AC presence)? Nope. Like I said before, Mariah just doesn't appeal to the older crowds anymore (at least not to any significant number that would pad this album's total in any noteworthy way).

I'll definitely be buying it still, even though I'm with the people who don't think this is necessarily the best idea.

The album will probably give her the biggest adult contemporary hit she has had besides We Belong Together in the past 10 years because they love Christmas music. That said I dont expect this album to sell any more than the Memoirs album did. 500k seems like a good estimate. It will be interesting to see how the Home Shopping Network promotion helps though. If they work that angle well enough I guess the sky is the limit

Mariah's manager Chris Lighty tweeted that she is working with the Home Shopping Network (HSN) to promote the project, which is guaranteed to be the perfect stocking stuffer. Source: Rap-Up

You people are sadly mistaking, Christmas albums do sale well, and she'll sale far more than 500k, i thik this will be a big seller. Memoirs 500k, E=m2 nearly 1.5 million. Mariah is a huge superstar, and a rare one that posess the power to cater to all demographics. Jessica Simpson released a christmas album that went platinum. Furthermore, HSN is just one route she's using to promote the album, Mariah does'nt have just one demegraphic she promotes to, she promotes her music to everyone, which is a huge plus for her.

The Jessica album sold less than 700k as of last year, plus it was released in 2004, not 2010. At this point Josh Groban seems to be the exception for Xmas albums, not the norm.
Mariah's Xmas album can be very well ignored if Susan Boyle's becomes huge, plus like other said, with Mariah people can just download AIWFCIY new version and be done with it.

Am I the only one who thinks that maybe it's a tad soon to make sales projections? We haven't heard any of the music, for one. I'd like to think that has some bearing on how well it sells....

Is SuGod still releasing a Christmas album? If so, she's gonna cash in all the sales in that department
