Wow. I admit defeat... I guess B. Cox & Mimi were working on Christmas music together: B.Cox Reveals a New Mariah Christmas Song Posted by Lynn on Wednesday, 15-Sep-2010, 1:44PM EDT | Comments (1) Producer Bryan-Michael Cox went live on Ustream last night to talk about his current and upcoming projects. During the broadcast, he revealed a new song called "Oh Santa" from Mariah's new Christmas album Merry Christmas II You. Listen to the audio below.
"You guys have to hear the new stuff that we did for Mariah. We did a Christmas album and we mixed that like I guess a couple of weeks back so we, that should be another song soon - it's called 'Oh Santa.' And then there's a song that we got that she needs to finish. This crazy. I hope she gets the chance to finish the joint. It's amazing. I don't even want to talk about the songs. So amazing. I hope she finishes it."
Mariah's new Christmas album Merry Christmas II You, a follow-up to her 1994 best-selling Holiday album Merry Christmas, is scheduled for release on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. It is now listed and available for pre-order on Amazon.com. According to the product listing, it comes in 2 discs, CD + DVD, and priced at $16.49. It is currently ranked at #31 on Amazon's bestsellers list in Holiday-Opera & Vocal. Source: B.Cox on Twitter | MariahDailyJournal | Poody

From the early to late 90's, customers in the US could join these "music clubs" where they would be able to buy albums at a really cheap price (sometimes even free) as long as they promised to buy a number of albums at regular price over a few years period. The biggest clubs where Colombia House and BMG. All you needed was a credit card. At their peak in the mid 90's, they accounted for over 15% of all CD sales. These clubs were extremely popular as it enabled people to get full albums for next to nothing. You have to imagine that this was before you could download free music from the internet so this was the cheapest way to get music back then. Artists popular in the 90's then sold millions of albums through those record club deals but those sales were never counted by Billboard or Soundscan. Every few years or so, those record clubs published sales and unit charts for all albums they "sold". Generally speaking, Mariah had at least another 500K - 2 million more sold, per most of her 90's albums, through these record clubs that are not included in Soundscan units. These sales are often used to explain the gap between her RIAA shipments and Soundscan numbers.. Record clubs were pretty muched killed by the advent of Napster and other free download sites in the late 90's. That and because they would also make ridiculous charges on your credit card if you didn't hold up your end of the bargain to purchase regular priced CDs. I.e. You automatically get charged for each month's special album at full price unless you decline that offer by mail or online. I know Mariahdaily has some of her record club sales from BMG: Music Box - 750,000 Daydream - 850,000 #1's - 1,000,000 Rainbow - 450,000 We can only assume that her Columbia House totals would also be somewhere in the ballpark of those same figures if not even higher, which would explain why an album like Music Box is certified diamond yet it's soundscan sales only account for 7.2 million. Also, the last time Merry Christmas was certified (which was 5x) platinum was in January 2003. There's been 7 holiday seasons since then, so I imagine it would be eligible for recertification fairly soon. Rainbow may also be close to 4x platinum (about 3 million from SS + 0.45 million from BMG + unknown from Columbia House), and we know for a fact GH and the Remixes are eligible for new certs (2x platinum and gold, respectively). It would be great if her debut could go Diamond but it probably sells almost nothing these days.

@jamaica go somewhere with that. She knows what she's doing, this will push alot. She may doing a song that caters to everyone. Haven't even heard the song, and assuming just because she worked with B. Cox it won't do well. Lol at u.

I'm just annoyed at the fact that she is making r&b christmas music. Which, I can't prove, but is a pretty safe assumption considering B Cox is a r&b producer. And I wouldn't quite say she "knows what she's doing." She's been off the pulse of mainstream music for a few years now.

I'm pretty sure we're aware of what music she wants to make.
I, too, was hoping the album was leaning towards a more traditional Christmas sound. I guess I can still hope for a few tracks that will fit that description. =/

I'm wondering what kind of Christmas music will be on it. Traditional? RnB? Pop? I'm hoping it'll be all of these.

Do I LIKE it? Sure, I like it well enough. 1-10 I would rate it a 6. The songs are fine, they just lack anything exciting or memorable. I would put it in my bottom three MC albums though, for sure.

Which album best represents MARIAH CAREY as an ARTIST?
Personally, I'd have to say Daydream and Butterfly with The Emancipation of Mimi and Merry Christmas getting honorable mentions.
Daydream: It resounds an era of remarkable music and a sound that the masses saw as MARIAH CAREY. From the well written lyrics to the incredible melodies, it's a very strong representation of Mariah.
Butterfly: This set the tone for everything that Mariah is now, the latter half of her career (who she would say she really is) is dictated by this album. She came into HER OWN, she became a butterfly and like it or not, this is creatively, visually, and musically a painter's portrait of the artistry of MC.
TEOM was like "Mariah reborn", it was like a bright flash of lightning that said, "in case you forgot, Mariah Carey still runs things". It flared her legend, reminding people of her greatness and aided them in accepting the "new Mariah" or Mimi, which is just who she really is.
I said Merry Christmas because musically, artistically, spiritually, VOCALLY, it really doesn't get much better than this. One of the BEST HOLIDAY ALBUMS of ALL TIME and it stays true to HER. Stone Win.

I dont like the idea of her working with people like Bryan Michael Cox on the Christmas album. I was hoping she would leave the contemporary R&B and hip hop influences off of this album when they said she was working with that Broadway guy. Those R&B/hip hop type of Christmas songs rarely come out good for anyone

I'm hoping for no songs that involve electronic drum beats or finger clicks/claps........the chances of this just shrunk!!!

I'm sure some songs will be R&B inspired, that doesn't mean they all will. Who knows? I'm already expecting some finger snaps in the ballads now though.

This book will blow over as soon as it hits the shelves. MC and her team may not like some of the stuff that's in it, but I doubt it'll get much significant attention. The best thing to do is to just let it come out and just not acknowledge anything in it. It'll pass.

I'm not feeling any excitement for this release :( And it sucks... She's been my favorite girl all my life, but right now the love just isn't completely there. I hope she surprises me and reignites the flame.
