No, but, really, we're on page 96 now..... if we lose this thread, and all that pregnancy debate from earlier on, I will punch a lamb.

Even if Mimi didn't marry Nick, she'd still be a 40+ female in an ageist USA. So, can't blame him for evertything. :) The woman seems happy, personally, and that's the most important thing, no?

I hear people talk about 40+. I SAY BULLSHIT. If a song is good enough radio will play it. I know mariah is 40 but she still is youthful. Most of mariah fans are under 20. Explain why Cher believe was #1 for weeks.. How old was cher back then. I believe legend like mariah, madonna, whitney and celine dion can have #1 over 40+.

They were playing Santanas shit because he had young people doing all the vocals and even THAT was an exception. Cher had success because she recorded a youthful song and no one even knew it was her when that song started out. Artists have trouble as they get older because they either lose touch or if they dont write and produce their own material, the hot writers and producers dont bother giving their best material to old people. Mariah writes and produces her own shit and she is still putting out catchy current songs like Obsessed and Oh Santa. It is going to have more to do with how in touch Mariah can stay than her age

It is going to have more to do with how in touch Mariah can stay than her age This, and also it depends on how much Mariah wants to stay in touch vs. make music that she loves, if that turns out to be different. The fact that she does not depend on others to give her songs is something that really does set her apart from others considered to be her contemporaries.

Damn @ the huge AI jump for AIWFCIY! :O Oh Santa's was pretty good, and hopefully will continue to pick up speed. When does "regular" stations start to mix in Xmas music, too? I noticed a Rhythmic station played OS the other day.

People who were there said it seemed more like Mariah and Trey Lorenz got into a fight before they went on stage. Trey had to be escorted off the stage after he said something into his microphone. People said it seemed more like Mariah was pissed off than upset in the sad way

"Oh Santa" undoubtedly will climb in sales over the next several weeks- but it's clear that it is and will not be a rival to AIWFCIY, in sales or airplay. AIWFCIY was her zenith moment, and regardless of whether Mimi has fallen out of favor with radio or not, that track will go on and on every holiday season.
People keep mentioning Cher when talking about older acts doing well- as I've said time and time again, that was a fluke (worldwide at that). After that track, she had no other notable successes. And that album was the biggest of her career (whereas "divas" 40+ from today all had their huge successes and commercial peaks at younger ages). In today's climate, I can't see, say, Madonna scoring a BIG U.S. radio single without a younger act on the single- just the way it is.

Mariah writes and produces her own s**t and she is still putting out catchy current songs like Obsessed and Oh Santa. It is going to have more to do with how in touch Mariah can stay than her age This is not true. Cher's 'Believe' was an anomaly and was not repeated. US radio are more lenient to older men than women and that's just the facts. Whitney had 'million dollar bill' with killer remixes. It went #1 on the dance charts which is no ageist and #1 at urban/ac however, pop shunned it. It went to #3 in the UK and was big hit for her because they are not as ageist as we are. It has nothing to do with who writes their own music. mariah writes and some of the stuff on 'MOIA' was not worthy. She will have problems as wll. Case in point, she had the hottest rap female mc on 'UOMF' and it flopped, Ne-YO on 'angels' which i loved and it floped. Urban/ac for some reason didn't bother to play it much. As female artists get older, unless they have a huge, younger act on their song, it won't get played much or ignored by top 40. this is why it is even more important to stay in tune with one's base. Mariah fans , some are young, but many don't purchase albums. She has a fine line to walk. Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dionne Warwick, and the like didn't write much music and there catalogue and talents are lauded. It also takes a great actor to bring the words of a script to life. So much can be said for interpretation.

Mariah is a very smart buisness woman.. If she needs to get a younger artist to jump on a song with her?? She will!! I jus hope its someone good.. IDK how this would fare, but I would still LOVE to see a Mariah and Janet Callabo.. Even a duet with Drake would be Awesome

It is going to have more to do with how in touch Mariah can stay than her age If you look at the charts prior to 2000, older artists were much more common - male and female - on the Hot 100. So, my point is valid. Madonna was also scoring massive radio hits past 40 at the time. Now you'll struggle to find a single person over 40 on the Hot 100. You do the math.

Well, whether Mariah writes it or not, she just very recently had a top 10 hit. In terms of the track with Ne-Yo or Nicki flopping, during her darkest career days, some of her biggest hits have been solo, and didn't need anybody on them. So, whether those 2 helped or hindered her cause, the 1st single did what it was supposed to . And as far as UAC is concerned, they didn't take well to Angel's Cry or anything Whitney did after Million Dollar Bill, even after she had a #1 there, so I certainly wouldn't say one is in a better position than the other in that regard. Lol
