Mariah a smart business woman? not at all..glitter emi payout BAD decisions on single choices etc...the main problem with Mariah is that she is surrounded by people who always say yes and that`s the main problem, disagree as much as you like but she was best when she was controlled and marketed. When she had a say in the matters she mainly screwes things up.Although i am very much criticizing her for many things I still think the christmas album is excellent but it will not sell much because people don`t know what she is anymore...is she 40? is she eternally 12 is she a rap singer is she adult contemporary it`s all baffling. She screwed it up with her biggest career flop memoirs of imperfect angel, that was the nail in the coffin.

Sorry, but you don't get to 20 years in the game without a strong business acumen. And getting $28 million from EMI to NOT sing sounds like a good business deal to me.

It seems that "MCIIU" will struggle to go gold in the Us - successful Christmas albums don't see huge drops in its second week. Just check Bocelli's second week last year and predictions for Boyle's second week now. Besides, the album is doing next to nothing overseas - Mariah is totally disconnected with her adult audience, that are the ones who still buy albums, specially Christmas albums. Sad to see the original selling 13 million copies and this one won't even reach 1m ww, probably not even 600k :/

THIS is very true.. Mariah destroyed her reputation by abandoniing her musical roots.. even though she insists on R&B being her true roots, it was soulful popmusic that made her a star in the first place. Her last hit was a aimed at urban/r&b fans who will certainly not buy christmas music. People really don't know where to put her and her music!

OMG gloom and doom. Just enjoy the music. The Christmas album is great - I think I actually like it, as an overall album, more than the first one.

+1. Just enjoy the music. Forget about the charts for a moment. If you don't like the music, don't listen and don't spam the thread with your complaints that you've only ever mentioned 1900 times before.

Not to mention, do we really know the sales outcome of an album that's only been out a few days short of 3 weeks?

I think the Christmas album was a good idea either way even if it only sells a few thousand copies this year. Thats all I was ever expecting. This album is keeping her name out there and its certainly not hurting her image or anything. I dont know why people keep comparing the success of Oh Santa to All I Want for Christmas is You or comparing the sales of her two Christmas albums. Obviously this one was going to come nowhere close to the success of that one and I guarantee the label and Mariah are well aware of that

:justpassingthrew: I've said it before and I'll say it again. There is no 40+ curse. Show me a 40+ year old making well promoted, radio friendly, on trend music and I'll show you a 40+ year old artist with a hit. "Million Dollar Bill" and "Angels Cry" did not fit in with pop radio in 2009. Mariah a smart business woman? not at all..glitter emi payout I wish I got paid $80 million every time I made a bad business deal. Say what you want about the Glitter debacle but diva was getting money from it. THIS is very true.. Mariah destroyed her reputation by abandoniing her musical roots.. even though she insists on R&B being her true roots, it was soulful popmusic that made her a star in the first place. Her debut album spawned four Top 3 R&B hits, two of which went to #1. Please try again. Her last hit was a aimed at urban/r&b fans who will certainly not buy christmas music. Yeah, because R&B acts never release Christmas albums, right?

Mariah is gonna be good. She isn't your average artist. She's one of a kind. Bocelli's fanbase is far different from Mariahs. There have been a few Christmas albums that have dropped in album sales this week. Mariah will be fine. As long as she makes great music that the fans and people connect to she'll do great. Cher's Believe was not a fluke it was a hit. Stop making excuses. Celebrate the good things. Ya'll worry about the unimportant things to much in this thread.

I don't know why there's such a fuss with the chart queens. This probably will be the last album we see from MC for a looooong time

UK Top 200 Albums 101. (--) Merry Christmas II You - Mariah Carey I'm guessing Simon will get her on X-factor (He LOVES her). So I will expect the album to get a big boost from that nearer Christmas. My guess is she will be on X-factor Early-mid december. Possibly the final. If not, then R.I.P MCIIY in the UK.

Her therapy is to go into the studio and make a record. Memoirs was her therapy for going through something tough, or maybe her escape. We'll get some kind of joyful music sometime after the baby is born is my guess.

(Memoirs spawned 3 Hot 100 entries I think that are 3 more than Bocelli ever had... lol). Mariah's target audience has been the teens (since she left Mottola)... now it all fires back, because teens don't seem to embrace a 40 y.o. and her AC music)

Mariah Carey "Merry Christmas II You" (Island Def Jam) By Alicia Quarles, Associated Press
Mariah Carey insists that Christmas is her favorite time of year, and it shows on "Merry Christmas II You," Carey's second holiday album.
The record is a mix of classics such as "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "O Holy Night." It also includes new recordings, including the first single, "Oh Santa!"
The stakes were high for Carey with this release. Despite the multitude of hits she has racked up over the years, one of her most enduring songs is "All I Want for Christmas Is You." The track has become a modern holiday classic, setting the bar for any new seasonal music Carey wanted to release.
This time around, the up-tempo "Oh Santa!" with its catchy hook, gives "All I Want for Christmas" a run for its money. On the single, Carey sings about a lost love, and how she longs for Santa to bring him back. "Santa is going to come and make you mine this Christmas," Carey playfully croons. The fun-filled track, which Carey wrote with her longtime collaborator, producer Jermaine Dupri (and Bryan-Michael Cox) showcases Carey at her best.
She seamlessly transitions from this pop tune to more heavy material which features the wide rang of her voice. In one of the more touching moments on the album, Carey teams up with her mother, Patricia Carey, who sings the chorus on "O Come All Ye Faithful," in operatic tones. Carey then switches to the R&B track, "When Christmas Comes.
Most of the songs on the album will fill your ears with holiday cheer, but Carey does hit a sour note, specifically on "One Child," a sappy song that comes toward the end of the album.
Luckily, Carey redeems herself with a new recording of "All I Want For Christmas Is You." The song was first released in 1994, but 17 years later, it is still a welcome addition to any holiday album.
With the release of "Merry Christmas II You," Carey proves that there is such a thing as building upon perfection.

WHAT is she wearing???! lol. It looks like a carpet with holes in it. It looks ridiculous. Everyone knows you're pregnant now, embrace the bump. Or at least wear something more flattering.

And, someone found Virgin's P&L for that quarter that indicated just how much she got.

You're the only person i've seen make fun of it. It is cold outside. So, I'm guessing she should have been more worried about being fashionable versus being warm. How dare she start acting responsible about taking care of herself while pregnant

Where did I say she should be fashionable over being warm? Get a damn grip.
