baobabs - Get a paper bag because he definitely enjoys some of that light pop like Bubbly, The Riddle, I'm Yours.
And yeah - David would have loved that show. A number of people sounded amazing. I hope he thought to set the VCR or DVR at home before he left. David said the people in the phone room could not hear the show. I guess he could also buy the itunes.

JambaJim still hasn't put up the video of David singing something to the producers backstage at Hope for Haiti.
In a couple of days, David goes to work with Eman (he said that in is new video blog).
BTW - Stars moved around on the phone stations. David was sitting next to Alec Baldwin earlier, then between Selena Gomez and Neil Patrick Harris.

I can't see your photo.
I called a ton of times and kept getting busy, got through before 10, but after I donated they just hung up - no chat with a star. Maybe it was too late by then. Either that or I dialed the wrong number and gave my cc and info to a stranger.

@jambajim (Jim Cantiello of MTV) tweeted Ooh! I see @davidarchie is now involved with MTV's Haiti telethon. Awesome! (I *may* have had something to do with this booking.) (then later, after fans of other Idols spammed him over why their fave wasn't invited) Oh dear. @davidarchie's team reached out to me personally. If any other Idol's followed suit, I would have hooked them up, too. #DeepBreaths (But even Jim doesn't know if David is singing or one of the many celebs manning the phones) Not sure. But it's Archie so he'll probably sing while manning phones regardless. :) RT @archftw Is @davidarchie singing or manning phones? (My guess is just manning the phones because the performing acts are stars like Madonna, Bono, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, etc. Oh, and BTW - Threadless has a $10 Haiti charity tee - all proceeds up to $100,000 go to the Red Cross for Haiti. www.threadless.com/product/2191/Many_Hands_Make_the_Load_Lighter ) NEW - Jordin said in an interview he would like to duet on TBWY or something with David (though it took her a while to decide): www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH4Pgs2Jzp4question asked at 2:16, she answers at 3:14. and David tweeted that he will be answering phones at the Haiti TV event Hey all, tomorrow I'll be answering phones taking pledges for Hope for Haiti. Tune in, and call in to help how you can!

I don't think WFY and Crush could have both been on the main album with their similar day-ay-ay and away-ay-ay parts.
and WTH Walmart Canada...
RT @teamarchie: The debut album of David Archuleta's wasn't released at Walmart Canada in 2008, this is coming from a store manager via
David Archuleta's debut album is finally being released to Walmart in Canada on February 3rd, pic floating around is from Ontario.
Any idea why it would take them THAT LONG to release it? I'm pretty sure Archuleta and Cook's album were released on Amazon Canada in 2008, yet Archie's has only 1 review, Cook's 4.

I love Save the Day too. It's in my top favorites of songs he's done. I actually think it's one of the best songs he's done. I wish it had been on his US album. It's so disappointing that he can't even sing it in VIPs. I would love to hear David sing that one live. It's perfect for David - so Superman, Mighty Mouse, Dudley Doright. I guess Jive only bought the Japan rights for it or something. www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-bTP9SUAU8

I usually use Google Translator but that Nuestra Diario article has its own translator. Go to page 31. Then double click page 31 (the page with lots of David pictures). It will open a new window. The new window has a Transducir gadget at the top - press that to translate.
Yeah - maybe he'll finally do a Spanish album.

baobabs - David never tells fans when/where he is going to speak at a church, school or any private event including private concerts. I imagine he doesn't want screaming fans crowded outside a private event. And before he went, he mentioned he didn't think his phone would work there but if he found a computer he could get online with he would tweet.
David's phone isn't international. He had to borrow a different phone when he was in England for over a month. He doesn't even have internet on his phone - just voice and text.
And he still has the rest of the week in Central America. I actually don't care if all he there does is church stuff. He's 19 and he didn't go on a mission.
Warned of what eventuality by the artist himself?
And he just tweeted # I've been having a great time in Central America so far! I'll try and write a blog later when I have more time! Hope everyone is well :) 8 minutes ago from web # @glitter_Rebel hahaha! That was good. 9 minutes ago from web in reply to Glitter_Rebel # Hello! I'm still alive! haha. 11 minutes ago from web

twitter.com/EpicDemiaReason for being so late? Lots of traffic in the city. One of the organizers if beginning to lose his patience lol (but David has arrived) David: I want to experience the social situation in Central America, because my mom's from here. I am very happy to be around people my age Talked about his memoir. He sang Contigo, Angels and some hymns in Spanish. His mother also sang. Summary - David mostly spoke about his faith and his family but he did say this about music: "I never thought I'd get to where I am. At first it was enough to just sing to myself, but when I realized the effect I had on people... I decided this is what I wanted to do for a living. I like focusing on positive things for people. I want to show the youth that they can enjoy music not focused on bad lyrics, but music that transmits a positive message...and makes people feel a good emotion. I want the youth to know that passion is the most important attribute an artist can have, and the desire to transmit their feelings. " Article will appear here in Spanish, maybe tomorrow: www.epicdemia.com/

Fireside huh? - I guess no video. And David is late for his press conference...transportation delayed, on his way now. But still not arrived... --- Express Night Out - The Idols' Vitals (great article) www.expressnightout.com/content/2010/01/american-idol-season-9-vitals.php"But just as each classroom has its nerds, jocks and preps, those who've made a splash on "American Idol" often fall into recognizable categories. Here are a few archetypes to keep an eye out for Tuesday as the "Idol" bell rings at 8 p.m. on Fox. THE RUNAWAY TRAIN: These folks have talent. It's clear from the minute they part their perfect little lips just so, releasing a sound like angels whispering in your ear. Their pitch is impeccable, their song choices inspired. They immediately become front-runners despite the desperate attempts by judges to knock them off their game. They don't all wind up "Idol" winners, but they do become big stars, which must help ease the pain of defeat. » Examples: Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, David Archuleta, Adam Lambert" --- TV Guide - Where Are They Now www.tvguide.com/special/winter-preview/galleries.aspx?gallery=American-Idol-1000317&page=7David Archuleta Archie signed a deal with Azoff Management after American Idol's 19 Management passed him over, and his album, David Archuleta, sold an impressive 183,000 copies in its first week of release (putting him at No. 2 on the Billboard 200). And yes, girls everywhere still want to marry him and have 10,000 of his babies.

Re the Daily News - I like that they gave recognition to the emotional power of David's singing even if their conclusions were off-base. I like emotions to cut that close in music. Though I prefer when David dips into his well of love and hope, I love the cries in his voice too. In the raw FOX feed of when Kara DioGuardi entered the SLC auditions for Season 8, a interviewer asked her about working with David and she said nice things about David's singing including "Give him a melody and you can hear him cry." Neon Limelight - 12 of the Best Idol Voices Ever They start with David's Imagine (I love that Imagine - that's where David hooked me for good) neonlimelight.com/2010/01/12/countdown-to-american-idol-12-of-the-best-idol-voices-ever/Oooo - News! I love Running. My niece love Running best out of the whole album. Here's the only live performance of Running - final encore, first stop of spring tour. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b7oaaV-d-4In retrospect, the main thing wrong with ALTNOY as a single was the 6/8 beat IMO. You cannot bop in your seat to that beat at that speed. I remember seeing David perform it on Nickelodeon and the crowd of teens was so awkward trying to sway their arms to the mid-tempo 6/8 beat. Other than that I thought it was a good song and I loved the video. News - David hits the Russian market with 2 songs on an MP3 album. Free album though with 200 2009 Love Ballads (uh in the US we call that piracy) - Crush and To Be With You bit.ly/7zetp0

rince25 - Your wish come true - Songwriter news From Hits Daily Double www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news07861m01"Dapo Torimiro (www.dapomiroworks.com; @dapotorimiro): This Lagos, Nigeria-born songwriter, composer, pianist and multi instrumentalist is one of the hottest producers in the game right now. The Yamaha-endorsed artist and singer is working on a number of major projects right now, with a song on the upcoming Disney movie, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, three songs with Tony-winning singer/actress Anika Noni Rose for Disney's Princess & The Frog and a featured slot on stage with Andrea Bocelli and David Foster on the PBS special, My Christmas, which premiered Thanksgiving weekend and will continue to air through December. Dapo is currently working on songs for Jennifer Hudson, Musiq Soulchild and David Archuleta; he also has three songs on Toni Braxton’s new album, which streets in February. And keep an ear out for a pair of upcoming singles, written and produced by this up-and-comer: Jordin Sparks’ "No Parade" and Justin Beiber’s "Bigger." It’s only a matter of time before Dapo becomes a household name." ---- note - Dapo is listed as a writer on Running. I love Running. I adore the rhythm of the song and the melody/syncopation of the verses. BTW - I hope David's second album has no songs that start out drab and practically monotone. The starts/verses of Crush and TMH worked out OK on the CD and with a live band but did not sound very good with just David and a backing track. In fact it's crazy how similar Crush and TMH are - both have a drab 2 adjacent notes alternating for large parts of the verses.

Contents listing of David's memoir. I have no idea what part that listed co-author has in the writing. David said he's writing it himself. www.worldcat.org/oclc/462902872&referer=brief_resultsbaobabs - I don't think David or Mormons in general practice asceticism. Interesting article at the Mormon Times, surprisingly by Orson Scott Card: "It was not very long after the founding of the original Christian Church that the idea of holiness began to attach itself to activities that seem very strange to us today. Mormonism has no ascetics, no hermits, no monasteries." www.mormontimes.com/mormon_voices/orson_scott_card/?id=11972David much enjoys many earthly pleasures like eating food he loves, entertainment, etc. It's just physical intimacy (or even thinking about it) that the Mormon church doesn't allow for teens.

davidprincess - It was the media that said his dad put in Beautiful Girls but his dad says it wasn't him and David said he did that himself. I think Dean said David put it in because in the 1.5 minute length the performance had to be, there wasn't time for two verses and David thought it was two repetitive with so many Stand by Mes. So he added that in rehearsal, some producers heard it, when he tried it again without it the band leader asked why he took it out and that it sounded good with it. So don't say it was an idea of his dad. Everyone just blamed it on his Dad. re Running - it gets few votes on every poll I have seen at FansofDavid (Richard Parkinson's fan site) - polls of "what should David sing on tour". I think David tries to sing what the most fans want. There definitely are Running lovers including me and my niece, but I guess not enough. For me it has a vibe like Bruce Hornsby's The Way it Is. I love it and its crazy words too. Words fal-ling out of my pocket. Re kissing - yeah I would like David to get a bit closer to kissing in his music. Heck he has "lying here, it's our last final goodnight". But hands are a start. He thinks holding hands is intimate. Maybe after he has his first kiss.. Nice nice mention in this Salon blog article - Beyond 15 Minutes of American Idol Fame 15 of the Show's alumni who may have careers to stay open.salon.com/blog/jayelle_hartley/2010/01/08/beyond_15_minutes_of_american_idol_fameAlso I never saw the Nielson top 10 Seasonal albums ratings - CFTH is 7! 1.bp.blogspot.com/_X20IELE1WjI/S0fVIPR3JnI/AAAAAAAAAYo/nVwKU8IVdok/s1600-h/nielsen.jpgFrom MTV - Best of 2009 - Musicians Give Back - David is #4 2.bp.blogspot.com/_7D7TMqjqYYU/S0IIHZWUIWI/AAAAAAAABI0/iXQHTRt2gZM/s1600-h/Picture+3.pngAnd a lovely and artistic scrapbook video of Gengen Wang's photos - she went to 10 CFTH concerts and she gets great shots. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS7uHUjRe9E

NotEmo3 - I listed Chris Brown because he has actually said he was keeping his music clean because he has younger fans too. And before he assaulted Rihanna, he had a major spot as a clean artist.
Re Sparks event vs Philippines - I thought David was only involved in her Feb 3 Teddy Bear Picnic part of the event. Wait - I just looked it up and the delivery of bears to the Children's Hospital is Feb 4.

praepos - A lot of young people listen to David's music and go to his concerts. Desperate as written is almost suicidal. When I first heard it I was pleased he showed something in that darker rock ballad style to show his versatility, but I also worried how it might affect any unstable young fans. And there are some fans like that, cutters and stuff. There are other stars whose music is all clean. Aren't Beyonce, Chris Brown, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, One Republic, Coldplay basically clean? Obviously his religion didn't keep him from putting Desperate on his album. But I just don't think that song is him. As for the way he arranged for live performance, I think that was to make it more hopeful sounding in the middle and also to make it less repetitive, same reason he added Beautiful Girls into Stand By Me. I agree in general that these days, after a certain age a lot of teens start listening to music with sex and drugs and violence and David won't be singing those songs. Then there's the middle area of touching and kissing where he really hasn't gone much (other than hold you in my arms, hold on to my hand, etc). I think he's been the closest in covers done in small venue encores - he did "hang from your lips" (I'll Be) and he made Bubbly pretty enticing in parts "feel your warmth". I think he is fine with those songs. But will his dad and others steer him away from stuff like that for his own recordings? For me (and yeah I am old) I think his untouched uber-purity lets even the slightest bit of intimacy in a song have more effect. It makes it more sexy, if that makes any sense. I would like him to get some of that into his own music. But I agree it may be tough for him to put out anything of his own that goes beyond the LDS guidelines for teens dating. Re Idol - David has said many times he was challenging himself. He was not competing. He even said he told his competitors what he was planning to sing. Cook said he did not tell DA what he was going to sing. David excels at challenging himself. BTW all - these are the original lyrics of Desperate before David changed them. These are even darker. www.justsomelyrics.com/1526637/Stanfour-Desperate-LyricsBTW2 - David is at a Reel big Fish concert. He is then heading to Central America for charity work. And there is a rumor of a February Philippines mega-concert with Cook too and one Filipino-American singer from the Pussycat Dolls. And this is a nice little Riddle video with a front view and clear sound: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm8PCJoIaaU

David's first single was released before his album. Is that typical for pop albums or just an Idol first album thing? Because I can't wait to hear some of whatever he's doing.

Oh please no breakdance moves. But I agree that David usually picks stuff like that when he does a cover. However I wouldn't call it Indie really. He has not covered Rocket Summer. The ones he actually has covered are mostly mainstream Top 40 artists who just don't fit in the pigeonholes of bubblegum, urban, R&B or dance music. They are similar to what David likes about the UK where he said pop can just be pop. I would like him to do stuff like that. The trick is to keep it from being crapped up with overlaid tracks and weird sound effects. I hope David can get more involved in the final sound of the tracks because most of those covers we have loved have been sparsely accompanied so David wasn't boxed in. Nothing p's me off more than to hear him trapped within the 4 beats per measure like he is in the recorded versions of many songs. I think they do that so they can do cookie cutter editing. That's why he is so much better live where he doesn't have to stay inside the lines.

Wow - a new thread and I didn't even know. Some recent David quotes from interviews, mostly about the music and the new album, but this first one is just nice. From Parade www.parade.com/celebrity/2009/12/david-archuleta.html“I certainly don’t see myself as perfect,” he says. “I have my faults. There are plenty of them. I take longer to do things than most people. I forget things a lot. I’m clumsy. I spill my lunch. I think imperfections make us who we are. That’s what makes us unique.” [...] Archuleta credits his broad and devoted fan base to factors other than his talent and charm. It's the music and American Idol, he says. "A lot of people watch that show, and it's such a diverse audience. Families watch the show - all ages," he says. "I think people give music they normally wouldn't listen to a chance. It's also a great example of the idea that music doesn't have boundaries. I wouldn't want my music to be enjoyed only by one group." From Cleveland Plain Dealer www.cleveland.com/popmusic/index.ssf/2009/12/david_archuleta_spreads_holida.htmlThis year, I really focused on journal writing. I was like, "I need to record what I've been doing, so my kids can know my story." Next year, I want to focus on songwriting. I want to write as much as I can. Right after the holidays, I'm going to be working on my next album. . . . I'm hoping to show more of myself. What I've been trying to do in the writing is show more of my personality, what's on my mind, my creative side and my realistic side -- just showing people more of who I am. Another goal is to learn to play guitar better. From They Will Rock You theywillrockyou.com/2009/12/happy-holidays-interview-david-archuleta/Question: I wanted to ask about the plans for your next album. I know that in recent weeks you’ve been working with songwriters in Nashville and New York. It sounds like the writing sessions so far have been really positive, and that you’re enjoying the freedom of having a looser deadline with this album, is that right? Answer: Yeah. It’s really nice, because you’re not worried that, “Oh, this song isn’t good enough, and it needs to be a smash hit, and we need to finish it by the end of the day.” It’s just, “Ok, let’s see what we can do, let’s see what we can come up with, let’s see if you connect with the song. ” And that’s what I want to do more of. The goal for me is to show more of my personality in the songs, and say, “Hey, this is who I am, this is what I like to talk about, and this is what’s on my mind.” I mean, it’s not like I have this specific thing that I want to do, and that I already know what the album’s going to sound like, and what songs are going to be on it. It’s pretty unpredictable, and I’m still learning. But I’ve been enjoying just taking things a lot easier this time around. Question: You’ve hinted that the next album might include different styles of music. I know that Latin music was a big part of your background growing up. Is there a chance that some of the new material might have a bit of a Latin influence? Answer: I haven’t thought about that really. I think the album’s still going to be pop, but with more of my personality instead of someone else’s personality. I don’t know how much of my own material will make it on the album, because in the end, they’re concerned about the best songs being on there. I’m just trying my best to see if any of the songs I write end up being among those best songs. I’m hoping for that, because I feel like the more of me that’s on the album, the more honest it is, and the more people can relate to it, because people can feel that connection with you and your songs. So, I’m just hoping for the best in the writing process. From Mundelein ReviewHe’s working on another album, which he said won’t be drastically different from his first, but he hopes to do more of the songwriting. He’s been spending time in Nashville lately with songwriters to learn the artform. “I’ve learned a lot,” he said. “I’m really happy with the songs I’m working on. It’s about more than writing these big, smash radio hits, but how to show people what’s in my mind, my personality. I want people to understand who I am. The things I think about, what I want to talk about. I kind of want more songs that make people feel good. That make them say, ‘Hey, there’s a lot of good in this life.’” From California Chronicle www.californiachronicle.com/articles/yb/138811047Asked whether that disc also will be pop, he says, "It has more of my personality. I mean, I'm kind of quirky person. ... And I want to be that with my music. It's not like I'm this deep, dark, mysterious person." (and re his Disney and Idol image) "I guess my image just fits that," he says with a laugh. "I haven't really tried to do the Disney thing; I guess I just automatically had that kind of image. I guess I try to keep a pretty clean image, and my music is very pop and stuff. I'm happy to know that my music is OK for kids." But he's also aware of the limitations of being a Disney star, and says older fans come to his shows, too. "I mean, half of them are kids and then the other half is, I guess, from the 'American Idol' audience, just a lot of older people, too," he says. "My music is for anyone who wants to enjoy the music." And while Archuleta says he's indebted to "Idol," he also says he hopes to move beyond that image, as well. "That's what people [focus on], 'cause they're the ones who voted for me and allowed me to do this," he says. "But the reason I wanted to do 'American Idol' was so I could be able to do my own career. So it's not like I want to be, 'Hi, I'm from American Idol.' ... I'm hoping that people will be able to say, 'Hey, David Archuleta,' just to be known for your hard work; to be respected as an artist." From a Westbury interview (link no longer works) Are you already working on your next pop album? I am. I've already been working on writing and stuff. After the holidays, I'll be kicking into the next gear on recording. . . . It's kind of nice that we're not as rushed as the last two albums. It's nice to be able to just focus on that. I want to show my personality. I'm a quirky, little, geeky kind of kid. That's who I am, and I want to show that. I'm not perfect, and I'm kind of weird, but hey, that's me.
