Hey there,
I know I don't usually post in here, but for those of you who follow the Mediabase 24/7 charts, they're imposing a new recurrent rule with this week's Alternative chart.
In addition to the current 20/15 rule (20 weeks and below #15), there will now be a 40/10 rule, where songs below #10 and on the charts for more than 40 weeks will be moved to the recurrent chart.
"Saviour", "Uprising" and "1901" should all be gone in the next update.

I just saw that those 3 offenders were at the top of the latest recurrent update and immediately logged in here to see if anyone knew what was up. Did any of the other formats get new rules imposed too? Thanks a lot! And good riddance to those songs!

Did any of the other formats get new rules imposed too? Nope, just Alternative this time around.

And good riddance to those songs! "1901" was my favorite song of last year and even i'm happy to see it go.

Thank god for this rule. Now we won't see songs having extremely ridiculous runs such as those 3 songs. :)

Thank god for this rule. Now we won't see songs having extremely ridiculous runs such as those 3 songs. :) What's sad is that even if this new rule had been in place all along, "Savior" still wouldn't have gone recurrent until this week. "Animal" and "Lisztomania" (33 and 35 weeks respectively right now) could still easily reach the 1-year mark. This new recurrent rule is a good start, but nothing's going to fully stop songs from having ridiculous chart runs unless the PDs do their part.

As awesome as it is to finally get rid of these songs, it doesn't actually solve anything. It's just Mediabase covering up the radio's problems.

Plus, all it takes is a drought of new music or a healthy bullet one of these weeks, and "Savior" could be right back in that top 10 mix and bound for the top spot.

Whoa! They jumped the gun on "This Is War," then. Sure, it would've gone recurrent without the new rule, but with the new 40/10 rule in place, it would still be #13 this week with 661 spins.

It's just Mediabase covering up the radio's problems. Yeah, that's my feeling too. The only thing this successfully does is make the charts less reflective of the current state of the format. Don't get me wrong; I've never been one for charts without recurrent rules. I don't want to see "Smells like Teen Spirit" on the chart every week. I just think, the easier you make it for a song to go recurrent, the less the chart demonstrates what's being played.
