Damn Glee is selling! I think the 'Telephone' cover will have enough power to move upwards of 150-170k week 1!! One of my favorite covers from the episode.

Elvis and the Beatles released quite often, too. That was the norm back then. The Beatles even had like 5 singles in the Top 10 at one point or something like that.

Elvis and the Beatles released quite often, too. Imagine if album tracks were readily available as singles

The Beatles even had like 5 singles in the Top 10 at one point or something like that. Better than that: They had the entire top five: April 4, 1964: 1. "Can't Buy Me Love" (first of 5 weeks at #1) 2. "Twist and Shout" (peaked here) 3. "She Loves You" (former #1, 2 weeks) 4. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" (former #1, 7 weeks) 5. "Please Please Me" (previously peaked at #3)

Elvis and the Beatles released quite often, too. Not sure about Elvis, but I know that at least in the UK, the Beatles continued to release songs specifically for the singles market long after most other artists had stopped the practice in the 60's. That's why a number of their hit singles cannot be found on their original UK albums, songs like I Feel Fine, We Can Work it Out/Day Tripper, Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, Hey Jude, The Ballad of John and Yoko just to name a few of them. The albums released, and their track listings, were widely different in the US than they were in Britain, at least up until Sgt Pepper in 1967 which became the first Beatles album that was released with exactly the same track listing on both sides of the Atlantic. Anyway, the point is that the Beatles released often because they released to both the album and singles market in their time.

Sick of Glee flooding the charts How come you're already sick when it just re-started? Well you might as well prepare yourself then, because this is still episode 1.

4 or 5 songs a week will be downloaded like crazy for each new episode and forgotten about a week or two later. Most will chart. 60 or 70 more chart "hits" will likely happen this year

Comparing though to the Beatles or Elvis isn't appropriate here beyond just looking at the volume of chart entries. If itunes were in place during the time of Elvis, this wouldn't be an issue i know right! I bet Elvis and the Beatles' singles would sell over one million first week....easily.

Well, it was the 2nd or 3rd highest rated episode of the series so far (The spring/post-Idol premiere was the one that was deffo higher.), so it's to be expected. I'm curious re:whether a post-Idol slot will even boost it very much in midseason...

Considering AI is steadily dropping every year, I don't know... but remember when AI ended? Glee ratings did drop quite a bit, so maybe AI does help the show after all.
It's funny how Listen is ahead of Rachel's song.

Well, I was making the point that this episode which did not have the lead-in was higher-rated than all but one Glee ep from S1.

How did Only Girl fall so fast? Wasn't it just #1 yesterday?

Eventually a Glee song may end up hitting #1 on the Hot 100. Sigh.

Looks like Just The Way We Are will be #1 again on the HOT 100. It could potentially be #1 for a while as well. Bruno Mars has an advantage many of his closest R&B-centric rivals lack, and that is broader cross-genre appeal. He's just as likely to appeal to the Adult Top 40 as he is CHR/Rhythmic..........a rarity even in an era where CHR/Rhythmic-leaning singles are charting more frequently in the lower reaches of the Adult Top 40. Trey Songz may be a challenger, but it seems the fact Bruno Mars has a broader cross-genre appeal is reflected in his digital sales muscle and thus it seems likely he'll keep besting him in that department. Beyond him, I really don't see any current release proving a worthy challenger, and if Bruno Mars is to be dethroned, it would be from a yet-to-be-released single (perhaps from the Black Eyed Peas or Lady Gaga, assuming either intend to release anything new relatively soon). I can see "Just The Way You Are" easily enjoying a run at #1 for at least six weeks, and even being primed for the longest-running #1 of this year. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Like a G6 is a serious contender for #1. It's just beginning its airplay growth and its sales are already huge.
I feel like the moment anyone says some song will "easily" do something, they are almost immediately disproven.
It's worth remembering there are never any guarantees on the charts.

i wouldn't count it out yet. The video still has to be released and we saw what the video for "Love The Way You Lie" did for sales. That will also probably booster airplay. I think it could manage to pull it off.

The five new songs will most likely bring them to 70 Hot 100 entries, just two shy of passing The Beatles. Brought to you by itunes whith every performance available as a single. Not a statistic I personally have much of an interest in Glee will be #1 by a lot long before they are done UGH! I wish they'd change the rule. No song should hit the Hot 100 unless it's being promoted to radio.
