Can one of you Underwood fans please explain to me how she was not nominated for EOTY at the CMAs. I mean she won ETOY twice at the ACMs and the Triple Crown award, headlined CMA Fest and had 4 number 1 singles this year. Plus her tour has earned $30 million. All in all, the overwhelming popularity of new opening acts like ZBB, Miranda, and Lady A bombarded the CMA voters... so much to the point where the left out some important people. Arguably, those 3 artists took the spots up when there are much more deserving acts out there at this time. Lady A opened for Tim McGraw much of the year but they were nominated over him. ZBB just started headlining this year, and Miranda started headlining too, but not on her own name... mostly in part to CMT. To answer your question, no one knows... Most Country fans however, seem to agree that the CMA nominees this year in that category were very unjust. I'd expect major changes next year once again.

So the Play On tour is almost over. :( It has been so much fun reading reviews and watching the great videos. Thanks to anyone from this board who contributed! Hope Carrie enjoys some time off.
As for the next single, my gut still says it will be WCIS, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's Quitter.

On a video chat yesterday I asked the SOS if there was any chance WCIS to be a single and they only said they wish it was. IMO, if it was, they would know by now, I think...

I hope it won't be Songs Like This. I can't believe SWISLY and WCIS won't be released (if true). What does that leave? This Time, Play On, Quitter, Change?? Ugh. I hope they go with Quitter, then.

Since WCIS wasn't nominated for the Grammy it was submitted for, does that mean maybe it could be submitted again next year? If so, maybe it will be a single after all. It's a pretty strong song on the album, and it screams single-material.

So Carrie wrote "Theres A Place For Us"? Why isn't she the one singing the song for the International realease?

^ I know someone who went to that show and she said Carrie was amazing, even though she was sick. Her illness kinda appeared on the lower notes. But the high notes and pretty much everything else were still flawless.
As for the next single, I think Quitter is the most probable choice right now. I actually really like the song but it's very polarizing and I believe most critics hate it. I want Carrie to release something that gets critical acclaim and get her to the next award season on a high.

I hope she's done with this album. IMO it was her weakest one.

I hope she's done with this album. IMO it was her weakest one. I don't think this is her weakest album. There are some strong songs on here, they just weren't chosen as singles (as of yet, at least). Not releasing SWISLY and/or WCIS is just a big mistake. Some Hearts probably had her best songs single-wise, but all of the album tracks from that album were pretty weak. Carnival Ride was really good though, but I think Play On is probably a better piece of work all together.

Agreed about the weakest singles part. I loved 'Cowboy Casanova' and I got really excited for this era and then the singles were just alright to me.
As it is, Mama's Song has been struggling to get to #1 (and is looking like it may not). I have a feeling the next choice would be SLT, which would be a disaster IMO. I think, since the tour is pretty much wrapping up, that she needs to focus on the 4th album.

After this album wraps she should take a break so her and Mike can finally have husband and wife time.

Strongest album... weakest singles, IMO. Agree. Which is a shame since general public mainly judge an album by the singles they hear on the radio.

I hope she's done with this album. IMO it was her weakest one. Actually, there are songs on the album that are just gold. But they weren't released. So this is actually a very strong album, imo, just not the best single choices, especially with Mama's Song. I like the song but there were far stronger songs to choose from - songs that would have reflected the quality of the record they're coming from better. I hope she's done with this album. IMO it was her weakest one. Some Hearts probably had her best songs single-wise, but all of the album tracks from that album were pretty weak. Carnival Ride was really good though, but I think Play On is probably a better piece of work all together. Agree about the CR and PO remarks. But Some Hearts' album tracks were not weak. At least two songs come to mind that I believe are just great: The Night Before (Life Goes On) and Starts With Goodbye.

I think the single choices were off this time around. While I like the songs released (besides MS), there are far better ones that are going to be left on the album. I hope they release a 5th single and make the right choice. SWISLY or even TT. I'll be seeing the last Play On show this Wednesday. I really hope Carrie is feeling better by then as she's been cutting songs from the set list. SWISLY,HGTA, and SS. I'll be bummed since this was already rescheduled from before. But, I'll take some Christmas songs instead if she feels like it :)

i think this album has sufferde a bit from self-indulgence. you dont release songs because they mean something to you. you release the best songs. theres just really no compelling single release in this era worth remembering years from now.
and i hope this kara dioguardi "experiment" is one and done.
i agree that some hearts is the best album. it may sound rushed and unfinished to most because it had to be rushed, but i actually like that quality of rawness in that album. and theres just a vintage and genuine feel to it, for me. play on just seems so shiny and polished.

Agreed, the singles definitely haven't been great this era. I think with the right single choices, she would have sold over 2 million already. Songs like WCIS, SWISLY would have been much better, criticcaly and commercially. About the album, I think there were great songs on it. But it really didn't feel as cohessive as SH and CR. Those albums felt like actual albums, PO more as a collection of (great) songs. And I also hope, the next album will have a few more great uptempo songs. They were not really great this era imo.

I think the first 3 singles from PO were the correct choices, but she slipped up on MS. She should've released SWISLY or WCIS for a 4th single and then an up-tempo spring song to close out the era. I hope a 4th album is on the way in 2011....because I'm kinda over this album as of now.

I agree about SH being a real "album." I think it had a theme and everything just seemed to flow so well. The singles were pretty much spot on that era. (Although, I think The Night Before deserved to see the light of day.) CR was a good album, but nothing about it really popped out at me, other than maybe Just A Dream and I Know You Won't. And PO is a fun album, but for me, it just didn't hold my intrest long. I find myself listening to songs from SH and CR more then PO. I think overall it had good tracks, but lacks amazing ones. SWISLY is amazing, but you also have songs like MS and UI and other lyrically blah albums. I hope the next album Carrie gives us amazing songs, sticks to what she knows and who she works best with, and give us the album the caliber that she is capable of.

'Temporary Home' comes in at #34 on Country Universe's Best Singles of 2010 countdown. A story of shared humanity, brought to life by Underwood’s spot-on vocal interpretation. This is the first single in her catalog to slice through to the person behind the artist, and the payoff –striking, palpable personal conviction– is rich.

I think the single choices were pretty disappointing. CC was a great first-pick, but I would have gone with SWISLY as the prominent ballad featured, and SLT as the other uptempo. I can see why TH was released. MS just was a terrible choice, IMO. I also can see why Undo It was released, and sure, it did well digitally, but ...it's just lackluster. No more Kara! lol
That being said, I liked (and still like) the album. WCIS, SWISLY are two of my favorite Carrie songs. Hopefully the next album will have less filler and she'll take a few more risks -- particularly in what she releases to radio.

Hopefully the next album will have less filler and she'll take a few more risks -- particularly in what she releases to radio. I think she actually took a lot of risks concerning the singles choices this era, i.e., by releasing Temporary Home and, mainly, Mama's Song. If she wanted to play it safe, she would've released SWISLY or WCIS, which has been fan favorites since the release.

If she wanted to play it safe, she would've released SWISLY or WCIS, which has been fan favorites since the release. Taking a risk should only be applauded for the sake of quality and not because the artist is in love with their own mediocre songwriting (could list countless examples here regarding other artists). Temporary Home was not a risk in any way, it's very safe for country radio and was no. 1 in callout (the only song that tested well this era). Not to mention most fans love the song (favorite on the fanclub poll by a huge margin). Carrie's A&R team seems stuck on trying to recreate songs in the vein of either JTTW or BHC with TH falls into the former bin while CC/UI fall into the latter. IMO it's hurting her credibility as an artist, and she's in danger of falling into the Rascal Flatts/Martina McBride artistic rut of every album having a checklist of songs in similar styles/messages just with different lyrics.
