I think the reason people compare Last Name to Before He Cheats is cause of the videos. LN was a prequel to the BHC video.

I don't think Carrie's single releases are as formulaic as some like to make it seem either. And, on another note, I revisited Some Hearts last night & 'The Night Before Life Goes On' was givin' me life. I need some more like that. Do you have a link to the podcast ? Jimmy's Wednesday Dirt Alert.--- I'm not sure if this means much at all, but February 1st Alison Bonaguro tweeted 'If Carrie Underwood isn't an Entertainer of the Year contender, I think the world's gone a ltle mad' with a link to her write-up on the ACM nominees over at CMT's official site. That tweet is gone. I also recall seeing another Twitter user -- someone who appeared to be in the industry -- tweeting Alison something along the lines of 'It's been a crazy day in Nashville' in regards to the nominees. Alison replied to that tweet, I can't recall how exactly and that tweet appears to have been deleted too. It all just struck me as interesting. Of course I'm probably just thinking way too much into it.

Bra-freakin'-vo, Arista.
Carrie earned a nomination. She shouldn't have to step to the side because Carrie's career is already "good enough". There's no limit to how far a career can stretch, so the fact that they pushed Carrie in the gutters to give Miranda a NOMINATION (winning is the thing that makes the real impact, and it's Taylor's award to lose this year, so good luck to Miranda) is sickening, rude, and just disrespectful.
Do they take us as stupid? Did they think we wouldn't be able to put two and two together, because it's pretty obvious with how poorly Arista and the ACMs handled the awards this year.

I saw the first tweet. I don't know what was so wrong with what she said that she felt like she had to delete it.

Maybe Carrie will win female vocalist this year since she is prob more deserving than the rest of nominees, and she will get the compelling vote cause of the snub..

I think you people need to give more respect to the other artists that deserve a chance at winning a acm award (before you guys say anything (I love Carrie Underwood and other artists). Of i had to bet on the EOTY award ( I hope Brad Paisley wins it). I do hope Carrie wins FVOTY because she deserves it, but the other artists that are in the same category deserve to win too not just Carrie. I also have to disagree with some of you people who say the songs on Play On weren't great, please CC,UI,TH & MS were great songs along with the other songs that are on play on..

Jimmy Carter has a tendency to stir the pot to get a rise out of people with some of his "reports" in the past.

I like your thinking, but I wouldn't put money on it. That's what Carrie fans were hoping for with the CMAs and, well, we all know how that turned out. It's a possibility, but Miranda has Female Vocalist on lock as far as I'm concerned.

^ I doubt that as well. And if she doesn't release a single, she may not perform on the ACMs. It'll be horrid! :S

Jimmy Carter posted a write-up titled Rumbles From The Row over at All Access: The ACMs are six months away from the CMAs. Both are huge platforms for the labels. Prestige of a Grammy, sales push for a performance at the ACMs. All the awards are high-stakes bragging rights and resume material. An artist may not care, but his booking agent sure does. A win can mean bigger money. Can mean you get a chance when, pre-win, you were not on that person's radar. The Carrie Underwood omission from the ACM Entertainer of the Year slot is not something fans of Carrie wanted. But did others feel good not seeing Carrie in the competition? You bet! Enough said on that ... Birds and bees stuff. Some folks are very naïve and some don't like having the curtain pulled back in the Land of Oz! --- Thanks, Stephen. :)

Hodges is confirmed, which I'm ok with since WCIS is one of Carrie's best cowrites. Time to hassle other writers too. :kii:

Maybe instead of continuing to complain about the ACM awards, Carrie's fans should just start requesting a new song and WCIS would be my choice. But maybe there is something else in the works we know nothing about. I just know I would love to hear WCIS on the radio.

This next album needs to be COUNTRY! More; "Look At Me", "I Told You So", "Jesus Take the Wheel", "Before He Cheats", "Wasted", "We're Young And Beautiful", "The Night Before (Life Goes On)", "Cowboy Casanova", "Just A Dream", "All-American Girl", etc...
LESS; "Twisted", "Quitter", "Undo It", "Some Hearts", etc...
I think Carrie does a great job with staying mostly Country, but with every album a few of those "poppy" songs sneak in. I think this time those need to be avoided. In order to get the critical acclaim the fans seem to want (including me), not only does this need to happen, but a central theme should be evident throughout the album. All three Carrie discs were "mixed bags". This time, I think a stronger Country sound and a central theme will do the trick...

I'd worry less about what genre people like to categorize her in, and more on just making good music. Some Hearts had a bunch of "poppy" songs, yet most people think it is her best album. I don't mind the country-pop tunes, just let them have good lyrics and be overall good songs. I don't care what anyone says, Carrie doesn't have that traditional country sound like Miranda Lambert (not that there's anything wrong with that), so I don't think she should force herself to sound like something she's not, just so people can say she's not "too pop".

Video Ga Ga's Top 10 Best & Worst National Anthems Ever: BEST #9: CARRIE UNDERWOOD It's almost too predictable how well she's going to be able to nail it, but that won't stop us from admiring anyone who can pull the anthem off so nicely a cappella. Carrie doesn't have that traditional country sound like Miranda Lambert Uhh...but she does. Obviously I'm not expecting a Loretta Lynn type album out of Carrie but I think something along the lines of Heaven, Heartache, & The Power of Love with a harder edge would suit Carrie nicely.

Uhh...but she does. Obviously I'm not expecting a Loretta Lynn type album out of Carrie but I think something along the lines of Heaven, Heartache, & The Power of Love with a harder edge would suit Carrie nicely. There is no reason why Carrie shouldn't be able to have an album of that quality. If she would be more choosy with her songs (like Trisha always has been), albums like this could become the norm for Carrie. Hell, Carrie can just cover Trisha Yearwood album tracks for her next album. I'm hoping that this next album continues in the direction of Play On. It had a great balance of pop and country leaning songs. I'd like to her to have more "What Can I Say," "Someday...," and "Quitter." Less "Songs Like This" and "Last Name" please. Songs like those sound like they are just trying to be another "Before He Cheats." "Cowboy Casanova" stood out from those because it had more of a swagger than the other two. Plus, the Shania-esque production was a nice throwback.
