Y'all know I'm not Carrie's biggest fan, but just came to say that I finally watched her How Great Thou Art performance and it was...fantastic. Best I have ever heard her, and the whole moment is really quite special.

I've seen most of Carrie's performances, and I have to say this is easily the best vocal interpretation I have ever heard from her. It is flawless. It is emotional. It is chill inducing. It's just perfect.
As I've always said, Carrie Underwood is a legend in the making. That performance simply proves she is well on her way. I couldn't be more proud.

I agree, Clarksodi. I'm sure in the future they will be having tributes to her.

I agree, Clarksodi. I'm sure in the future they will be having tributes to her. and we will have to endure subpar renditions of her songs, reminiscing her own performances, back in the day, lol!!

Yes, these last few performances have set Carrie up really well, and hopefully the duet takes the anticipation to an even higher level. I can't imagine there is any doubt left about her as a singer in the industry. It will be interesting to see if these performances propel her to a CMA Female Vocalist win in a time when she won't have had much actual material released. I can't imagine anyone hearing her "HGTA" and voting for someone else as Female Vocalist, though. Really. When you add in this version, it's close to 1 million views: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eiEaK4GXtw

Here's to hoping for a change this year at the CMAs!

I really hope Arista and CAA will send her international with her next tour.

Carrie Underwood's 'How Great Thou Art' Moves The MassesIt's no surprise that country music fans were anticipating the TV special Girls Night Out: Superstar Women of Country, which was taped at the 2011 Academy of Country Music Awards weekend earlier this month and aired Friday night on CBS. However, it was a gospel song performed at the show that unexpectedly crossed all boundary lines and created a viral sensation over the weekend. Carrie Underwood was just one of many huge names in the allstar lineup, but her duet with Vince Gill of the classic standard "How Great Thou Art" managed to bring down the entire house--and internet, at that. According to Yahoo! data, searches for Underwood's rendition of the tune spiked a whopping 362% on Saturday.
If that weren't enough, the video of the performance has received nearly a million views, and has drawn extraordinarily high praise--with comments ranging from "Wow! God was in the house," "I am not a Christian but this is truly beautiful," "She is an angel" to "This is the most moving version of that song I have ever heard," "She rocks 'em and socks 'em," "I'm speechless."
One user even went where most dare not tread, and compared Underwood to the King himself--"I thought that nobody could come close to singing this song like Elvis did during his concerts. I was wrong, Carrie put her heart and soul into this amazing version!" Underwood and Gill's fellow stars in the audience appeared moved by the performance, as well. Martina McBride stares transfixed at the stage, the ordinarily humorous Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert watch reverently, while Sugarland's Kristian Bush nods his head and Jennifer Nettles mouths "What a voice."
After hitting the final, climactic notes, Underwood wrapped the powerful performance up with a hug for Gill. Then, she wiped away a few tears...and faced a standing ovation from her peers. How great, indeed.

^^ LOVE IT- keep it up ! I just have to geek out one more time about Carrie's performance. I have Yahoo as my home page and am still geeking out seeing this on the front page and having the #1 Trending Topic spot, even though this level of recognition for Carrie has been criminally overdue !

The comments on the article are also so wonderful to read. I'm so happy a lot of people were able to see Carrie (w/ Vince here) perform HGTA. It truly is a moving, religious experience. ETA: Probably thanks to Yahoo, HGTA reaches a new peak on iTunes... #68 on all genres.

The video is now nearly at 1.7 million views. What an amazing month it's been for Carrie. In her off year, it seems she is gaining more hype than ever. I have a really good feeling about the next album era.

There are too many "best" performances to count. I'm sure in a month there will be something new that everyone calls Carrie's best performance... This is a good thing, of course! HGTA is #60 on Itunes!!! Holy Moly!!!

HGTA is now #55 on iTunes. And at the rate the video is going, it might even overtake Walk This Way. Amazing!

Wow, I never expected the HGTA performance to get that many hits and it's awhile after the performance! I'm glad more and more people are seeing exactly how amazing she is singing that song. :)

Re: overtaking Walk This Way, really amazing considering it's a gospel song... and there's no rockstar! I myself keep watching over and over again on my big-screen TV. There are so many details that I see every time: the background singer applauding right around the time when people start standing up; a gentleman raising his hand in praise over Jennifer Nettles' shoulder; and of course, Carrie's whole being just ringing with conviction.

The audience stands at the perfect moment; I always get chills at that moment, and Carrie starts 'pounding' her chest and really gets into it there. I think the audience felt that. The first time I saw the performance I stood up out of my chair without thinking about it.

Carrie's live rendition from the other night >>>>>>>>>>>> the Opry recording. The greedy part of me wishes that the live rendition from the CBS Special was released to iTunes.

For awhile you couldn't buy the song; you had to buy the entire album to get it. I wonder when that changed.
