I guess they're concerned about the alleged Christmas freeze? I don't get it. She'll be performing at the AMAs, X Factor, Divas, and Jingle Ball all before the year is up. Those are great promo spots--are they all just going to go to MKIA?
That all being said, with MKIA's AI receiving a huge increase today, if the performance really is amazing, could this potentially see a new peak on the Hot 100? I mean, I still don't really see that as a key motivator, because I doubt it would go top 5, let alone #1, so who cares if your peak is #7 vs. #10.
Other thoughts: they may think that all the promo she has lined up + holiday sales will be enough to keep Stronger selling consistently in the top 20, giving WDKY the entirety of 2012 to make its impact. While there are lots of potential huge hits on this album, WDKY is the only slam dunk, so they might just be trying to stretch things out as long as possible with the two main singles they have. RCA clearly has confidence in the record, but after the year they've had, some caution makes sense.
...but still. Sending MKIA to adds a month earlier and sending WDKY to adds the first week of November would, to me, make a lot more sense. But what do I know.
Whatever, they seem to be putting a lot into this performance and I won't let this damper what has still been a stellar start to the era.

So... They're going to let the current buzz of "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" eventually fade away in vain for a song that has no chance at doing anything more than jumping a few spots higher on iTunes, and ultimately get forgotten in a long list of performers that night?
I'm not even mad - I'm laughing because it's such a dumb move in my eyes. I'd love to know what their motives are for this move tbh.

Might be the dumbest thing ever. I'm beyond frustrated......I don't get why they're performing it? The song went Top 10, which was a great place to peak, and it obviously did just that...peaked. They've been promoting MKIA for the past 3 few months and they've done all they can, and this is SUCH a wasted opportunity to not give the 2nd single some exposure. I just don't understand what they're trying to do, the song isn't going to go any higher.

I'm not so sure the performance will be forgotten, but whatever success they can eek out of the single--and however great and "out there" a performance it might be for Kelly--it seems those same efforts could have been spent on a song that has proven, growing interest, is newer, and would better help sell the album through the holidays...which is exactly why they decided to release the album at the end of October.
Maybe Kelly and her team are giggling about how oh-so-concerned we are with every minute detail of an era and are just messing with us for being Mr. Know It Alls and they actually are performing WDKY.

I wouldn't be surprised, Kelly's site has been know to have mistakes from time to time, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm more worried about how the album is going to do without a new single to keep the general public interested in it.

^^The "old" single has only been for what, 2.5 months? That's not really all the long in terms of a song.
Anyways, I'm going to be positive and predict a new peak on the Hot 100, followed by a top 10 peak on Pop. The album will also sell well through the holidays! You heard it here first!

I'm not that bothered. She's yet to nail WDKY live yet, I'm not sure how much difference launching it on the AMAs would make (her performance is probably not going to be the talk of the town whatever it is), MKIA still has life in it and she's certainly sings it amazingly.
I do still think it's time to send 'Kill' to radio, and the award show would be a nifty way to get the ball rolling, but I do think people are overstating the AMAs' importance.

But seriously, unless she goes top 5 (which ain't gonna happen), a new peak on the Hot 100 is useless.

The AMA performance won't get "Mr. Know It All" a new peak. It'll help it linger in the top 20 but that's about it.

Whilst I agree that she's still got to nail WDKY live, I still think that her less than perfect performances are vocally superior to anyone else. I am irritated simply because I've never really cared for MKIA, KC never performs at award shows and the one time she does she chooses a song that is not to my liking. That, plus MKIA is pretty much done accomplishing whatever it was aimed to.

That, plus MKIA is pretty much done accomplishing whatever it was aimed to. That's what bugs me about it as well. Not only is performing it virtually useless, but selfishly I want to see her do the song I actually like. The more MKIA stays on the charts and is performed, the more annoyed I get. Even though WDKY hasn't been perfected live yet (with the problems lying with both Kelly and the band), it would still be a standout performance and would help launch the song. Not only that, but it would show off what else the album has to offer besides the song everyone knows already (MKIA). In the highest sales period of the year for music, it's beyond frustrating to see them not take advantage of that. Waiting till January to move forward with the singles scares me, even though we're entering the Christmas "slow down", that's still a lot of time to waste. I have faith WDKY will still perform well, but its sales and the album's might really suffer as a result.

Dumb + Dumb = RCA... oh, I mean... yea, no that's what I mean.
The only positive I could see is if she performs WDKY at the Grammys... I guess? That would probably get more views from the public than the AMAs.... but I'm not holding my breath on her performing there this year.
Anyway. Whatever. Hopefully it's a really good kicka$$ performance. Yea, that's all I got.

Here's my problem with the decision: Once Kelly performs "Mr. Know It All" at the AMA's, regardless of the sales impact or radio increase/decrease, it's labelled as still her new single. This delays WDKY's release (especially if MKIA starts to briefly pick up like its weird 3rd wind a couple of days ago), and probably rules out an X Factor performance (not that it's CRUCIAL, but it's a big market she hasn't tapped into this time around). I'm honestly surprised. Maybe she's performing a medley? I would love just a taste of WDKY(S) to get the ball rolling. There's something a poster said recently about the excitement caused for WDKY(S) by the commercial and hype for the AMA's and Divas and, like Kelly mentioned, X Factor, but it's all being killed by this one decision. Kelly can't simply perform WDKY(S) for fun, or throw in a little bit of MKIA. It just doesn't work: pop music fans are fickle. It's why, after only 2 years off the charts, Kelly is coming back like a newcomer again, even if she's established. I don't know, maybe I'm being a little naive and I apologize if this sounds ridiculous , but I'm getting nervous for an era that had so much potential (see: All I Ever Wanted) that can be killed with one simple decision. Question: Since Kelly's shooting her video and planning an X Factor appearance, does this mean that MKIA will be performed once more at one of the biggest venues and then just dropped like a sack of potatoes? I don't get RCA. Wish I did, know I will never.

i actually think Dark Side is better than What Doesn't Kill You.
singles:
1. Mr. Know It All 2. What Doesn't Kill You (is this confirmed?) 3. Dark Side 4. I Forgive You 5. Alone 6. Standing In Front Of You (still my favorite next to DS)

i actually think Dark Side is better than What Doesn't Kill You. Agreed. I actively believe that releasing it as the third single could score her back-to-back #1's. I see HUGE potential. She shot the music video today... so yes.

On the plus side, she's NOT performing "Walk Away" at the AMAs.

I hadn't listened to any of the Unplugged performances until it aired on TV tonight. Her cover of "I Know You Won't" is AMAZING - it gave me chills.
