The iTunes position includes a few Glee songs that will soon fall off (most of them, at least) so it should move higher. I have no way of knowing if this will stay in the top 40 or not. It is Christmas season but this is new, so we will have to wait to see if it sustains or not.

My post in the holiday music threads regarding the x-mas song:
Ugh... really? She's like hitting really weird notes all throughout it.... it almost makes her sound pitchy..... the ending is great though - I'll continue to voice my opinion that she needs big-voiced x-mas songs, she has a greater command of her voice when she's having to reach for bigger notes. Amy Grant, Martina BcBride, I'll even go as far as to say Barbara Streisand - those are Christmas voices. I get it, Kelly is vocally blessed; but, no, she can't do it all.

I was going to let this go in that thread, but since you've brought this into my turf... ...you're totally allowed not to like it. Obviously. But Kelly's voice suits this bluesy, stripped arrangement like a designer glove. She not only does it, she excels at it. And you can't sound pitchy if you aren't pitchy, and she's not, so I don't know where to go from there. Not everyone is going to like this style of Christmas song delivery, but not liking it is not the same as the blanket statement that she can't sing that style of Christmas song, because she just did, and she sang the s**t out of it.

I love the horn in I'll Be Home For Christmas. I wish we heard more horns in pop music these days. Definitely. I still hold out hope, no matter how slim, that we'll get the horn section on this tour again. Yay that I finally caught up with this thread again. This era has really been great for the fans. I wish RCA was handling the single releases in a way that would do more to get Kelly's music heard by more people rather than sticking to its AIEW-era practice of spacing Kelly's singles out too far, but as long as the label is happy, we'll continue to get more Kelly. Relatedly, I wonder if the decision to release an EP is a sign that maybe things are going well enough that Kelly will stay with the label. My guess in the past was that the level of suspicion between Kelly and the label was such that neither would budge on releasing nothing but the contractually-required last two full studio albums (counting Stronger).

Ugh.........will agree to disagree. Adios.
I wrote all about this in the polling both of her doing x-mas music. I'll leave it there.
She doesn't have a Christmas voice. That's my opinion. I'll end it there.

^^ I have to objectively agree with dbhmr. Your claim that Kelly sounds "pitchy" on 'Christmas' is either correct or incorrect since pitchiness is objective, rather than subjective. If you are on key, they you are NOT pitchy, and vice versa. On 'Christmas', I believe that you are incorrect since Kelly is NOT pitchy whatsoever.

Can you elaborate on what weird notes she is hitting? Where does she sound pitchy? How you do know she has better control of her upper range? Can you reference where she shows poor control of her lower register in the past 2-4 years? I personally think her cover is flawless and chill-inducing. I do not think it is pitchy in any place. I think it's soulful, bluesy and heartfelt. I love her upper register as much as her lower register. And based on her previous covers of Christmas songs (Grown Up Christmas List, Holy Night, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, and this one) , I do believe she would be perfect for a Christmas album.

^How do you have or don't have a "Christmas voice"? You don't have to like her version but your reasoning doesn't make any sense at all. And as they said above, pitchiness is an objective thing...you're either hitting the right notes or not, and she was definitely hitting all the right notes. If you don't like how she changed it up and added new notes in there, that's one thing, but everything she sang was on key.
Tell me how this isn't a Christmas voice...

Kelly Clarkson and Y100's Jingle Ball at BankAtlantic Center December 10By Maura Johnston Thursday, Dec 8 2011 When American Idol started in the early '00s, it had an almost public-access charm about it. There was Simon Cowell's relative unkemptness, the smallness of the stage, and the goofiness of hastily dispatched cohost Brian Dunkleman. That talent-show feel was gradually eroded by Idol's ratings triumphs, with the stage ballooning into something that could conceivably be called an EnormoDome and Cowell burnishing his British wit to a diamond-hard shine. (He got better-looking too. The power of the stylist.) But the show's first victor, a Texan named Kelly Clarkson, has somehow managed to retain a good chunk of the initial season's can-do spirit over the course of the nearly 10 years since she won the American Idol crown. Her fifth album, Stronger, shows Clarkson growing even more comfortable in her own skin. Where 2007's My December was a roar that sounded a bit too inspired by the tunelessness of that particular moment's rock-radio playlists, Stronger is rooted in hooks, with Clarkson dabbling in country, R&B, and the slightly bent strain of pop-rock that defined her best singles. Kelly Clarkson: This girl's an independent Idol. BankAtlantic Center 1 Panther Parkway Sunrise, FL 33323 Category: Music Venues Region: Out of Town Purists will scoff, even as they grudgingly concede Clarkson's technical ability and steal the occasional listen to "Since U Been Gone," her mid-decade melding of Max Martin sparkle and Karen O grit. But the songs on Stronger are written by a slew of pros, including Greg Kurstin of The Bird and the Bee and former Scritti Politti member David Gamson. The words American and idol in the same sentence still cause some people to break out in hives and all-caps comment-box contributions. Which is a shame, because in an age during which even those singers with barely an MP3 to their name can already have a marketing plan locked and loaded, Stronger shows Clarkson's artistry and humanity coming together in a compelling, relatable, and incredibly sing-along-ready way. Last May, while Stronger was still in the pipeline, Clarkson played the Highline Ballroom in New York City; the show was sponsored by Tupperware, which was looking to rebrand itself. As Clarkson powered through her back catalog — the spunky kiss-off "Walk Away," the coquettish "I Want You" — and poked fun between tracks at her lousy luck with men, it was easy to see why she'd been chosen to help out a company that brings together kitchen storage and camaraderie. Her public persona in this confessional age comes off not unlike some long-lost friend who is ready to commiserate with you over a cup of coffee and who can slide into chatting about her — and your — recent travails as easily as someone who has been tracking your every Facebook update. She doesn't see herself as perfect. But then again, how many times has overinflated self-worth on the outside masked the opposite within? In its ideal form, confidence refers not just to the strength to overcome one's missteps and flaws, but also the willingness to acknowledge that they exist in the first place. It's a rare trait among female pop stars, who seem culturally required to simultaneously bring home the bacon, cook it up in a pan, stay in tune, smile, and remain sexually appealing to the most exacting measurers of the female form. Clarkson seems pretty uninterested in all the distractions involved with being a pop star, openly refuting them on Stronger's "You Can't Win," which runs down the laundry list of celebrity transgressions she has apparently committed, e.g., not having a public significant other, allowing her weight to fluctuate, getting mouthy. She follows her public bird-flip with the intimate, slide-guitar-tinged ode to a pulling-away lover "Breaking Your Own Heart," which sounds like a bedside confessional. That Clarkson can glide between the two poles so effortlessly reinforces the humanity of both the album and her identity as an artist. On "I Forgive You," she looks back on a relationship that crashed and burned, forgiving both her past paramour and herself. The former is a common idea in pop music. But the latter is a sign of maturity that's increasingly absent from the pop charts as they become more and more colonized by singers under the age of 25. Ultimately, Stronger continues Clarkson's path toward sorting herself out in public as she sings about the scar-making slights and fights that brought her to where she is today — still in front of an audience, gently mocking Cowell to reporters, telling those around her that, to borrow a pop mantra from another singer, everything's gonna be all right. www.miaminewtimes.com/2011-12-08/music/kelly-clarkson-and-y100-s-jingle-ball-at-bankatlantic-center-december-10/

LOL! Some people watch American Idol and think they know everything there is to know about vocals. Yo yo yo, Dawg, that just ain't true!
Kelly was not pitchy. Fact, not opinion. You probably just didn't like some of the vocal inflection she chose to use and some changes made to the song vocally. Perfectly acceptable but don't package it as though she suddenly forgets how to sing when the song is a Christmas song. So silly.

Okay, this sounds really blunt and probably also stupid, but I'm going to go ahead and ask it.
When will "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" be released? Will all of December be spent on hype and not actual release? I've never seen a situation quite like this one, where it is practically the single, but not completely. Strange. Especially since the video was shot like two weeks ago and she's already done some promo. Explain, please!

Already Gone was essentially made known as the third single...maybe as far back as March 2009, and the video was shot in June, but it wasn't officially sent for adds until August, and the next single wasn't released until March 2010. So, this is par for the course for RCA.

Especially since the video was shot like two weeks ago and she's already done some promo. Explain, please! I don't think they can release it now...I don't see how it would make much sense. She just sent a Christmas single out. The last televised promo this year, I believe, is Divas, and if past years are any indication, it doesn't bring in huge ratings anymore. Plus, it's a tribute to soul, so I'm not even sure if WDKY would fit. I think it's more likely that she sings "I"ll Be Home For Christmas" to bring attention to that. Kelly isn't Rihanna--they can't have MKIA out and send WDKY and a Christmas single followed by an EP. I wouldn't be surprised if the EP was Kelly's idea and that meant a delay for WDKY. It's December 7...I just think if the single was going to be released, it needed to be released about a month ago to make any real impact. Better now to let MKIA get all the after-Christmas sales to get it to platinum, hope it rides to top ten on Pop, do some light promo (e.g., iTunes banner, maybe a Divas reference/performance) to the Christmas single and her EP, which will translate to more buzz for her (since IBHFC was released, the album has risen from outside the top 100 on iTunes to 71, and it's not like the song is available on the album). RCA still clearly believes in this era and Kelly, and I suspect they'll be balancing pushing this and Adam's new single in January. WDKY will come.

So cute! More photos here.

This made me like "My Life Would Suck Without You"!... it works really well as an almost heart-breaking ode. Since the production on Kelly's song was always so bubble gum and sugary, I found MLWSWY really insincere. But somehow, this really works. I'm pleasantly surprised. Great find!

WDKY from last night. She changes it up a bit - is it just a little slower? - but finally has the live, non-acoustic version nailed.

YESSSSSS so good live now!!! That is what we have been waiting for!! It does sound a little slower. Whatever helps her nail it live, I don't care. It's a great song and deserves to be a knockout.

I can't get over how much better she looks this era (not that it matters, but BAM! She's close to Breakaway-weight, I think) I agree after seeing this picture:

Kelly has mentioned doing a Big Band and Blues Christmas album so I would think it would be much different than your typical Christmas album. I see no reason to think she can't excel with that kind of music.
