#1 Mariah doesnt write her own press releases. #2 Mariah HAS broken countless chart records. Why wouldnt her press releases focus on that? Maybe some other artists' press releases dont focus as much on chart achievements because their resume isnt as impressive. PREACH! |

Of course nobody on this board cares about the charts, so why should the artists. LOL. How many times have we heard about iconic records like: Top 5 Singles; Top 5 Singles Written By Same People; 7 Top 10 singles, etc. We're all chart freaks, it happens in every industry. Take one look at some of the Network TV Press Releases (like Sunday when ABC touted Desperate Housewives as #1 scripted program that night -- there were only three(!) DH, B&S, CSI:MI, the rest were sports, reality, animation and newsmagazines.) It's kind of become a sport for some of us who follow these which network can find the tiniest demo to be #1. In the end, all that matters is whether the music stands the test of time.

if I read about her being "positioned as the only active recording artist with the potential to surpass the Beatles record of #1 singles" one more time, I'm going to throw up. lol They've been writing since "Heartbreaker" went to #1. But she is ??? It's true. And if it bothers you that much, why do you even care to read them? I don't know, doesn't look like it. :-\ I do. Believe me lol and that's why I like to read about her, even if I'm sick of reading certain things that seem to appear again and again. I know that she doesn't write her own PR's so it's not like I'm putting the 'blame' on Mariah herself. Loving an artist doesn't mean that you have to love everything pertaining to them and not discuss certain things that you don't particularly like. |

She's gonna suffer from a backlash eventually. She/her producers proved to be more than just a one-hit wonder. She also overcome the Paula-Abdul-period. Now after 5 years she's still going strong, but a lot of artists show inconsistency after 5-10 years into their successfull career, self-induced or not (e.g. Usher, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Supremes etc. etc.). Keep in mind that I'm talking about artists scoring a lot of #1's over the years. |

I think Mariah can still pull of another #1. She just has to wait a little bit more for the public to want her music. Definitely think she can pull off a Cher
But for the up and coming, Rihanna has the greatest chance to snag atleast 10+ #1's in her career.

"Believe" was a fluke, really (and a worldwide one at that)- note that none of the follow-up singles fared nearly as well. Plus, the Believe album was Cher's biggest commercial success ever. Mimi (and other older females) had their biggest commercial successes, and they will not be topped. Not saying a 40+ female can't score a No. 1 on the Hot 100, but these days- and in an ever-increasing ageist U.S. radio climate- it's a challenge.
Now, on charts like Dance/Club Play, there are no age boundaries. :)

History does not need to repeat itself. Before Believe who would have even thought a woman that age could have a huge #1 hit? Mariah doesnt need to "pull a Cher". She can pull a Mariah

I know what PR is, studied it, and all- which is why I easily recognize the fluff and puff, especially in regards to stats. :) And i know that Mimi's PR writers aren't the only ones who do it. Cruise against chart achievements? They are what they are, there's nothing to "cruise" against. :) I fully expect Mimi to return to the top of Holiday Digital Song. Madonna does the same thing. I can't tell you how many times I have heard well XXX Madonna record is #1 in the world like that means something to US listeners who simply don't like the song. |

I meant Mariah still has a chance of scoring a #1 in her 40's. Her music is still fresh to the public. She doesn't need to pull anything. It doesn't need to be a worldwide smash, but she can reach #1 again in the right time with the right sound. It is a challenge however. I won't hold my breath though.

All labels tout chart/sales accomplishments- no one disputes that. We're talking about Mimi's label (and Mimi) caring more about all that than others- that's all. As for anyone hitting #1 on the Hot 100 in their 40s- in this extremely ageist U.S. climate- we shall see, I suppose. A lot has changed at U.S. radio since Madonna scored with hits circa 2000-2002. Heck, if a 40+ act can do it, maybe a 50+ act can. Especially if they include a hot, younger act on their record (i.e. "4 Minutes"- what's two more positions to climb?) The possibilities are overwhelming.  |

I'm not going to say she's definitely going to get another #1 because I don't know. It doesn't seem likely but I don't think you can just rule it out. Cher, Elton John, and Aerosmith all the biggest hits of their careers after turning 40. Madonna also had quite a lot success after turning 40 - the whole Music era, the Confessions era, as well as 4 Minutes. Mariah's lasted this long, she's not going to just go away. With the right song at the right time she could definitely hit #1 again, but I don't think she'll get any more hits based off of her name alone. Either way, she's accomplished enough in her career to not worry about such things, although I'm sure she'd love to rack up a few more #1's (as would her fans). |

she prbly wont have big eras anymore but the first single might go number one with tons of luck. but she prbly wont have 4+ successful singles in a row anymore. the hype just isnt there
