Yes, it's more difficult. i think the latest songs to debut so high on Hot 100 Airplay was Beyonce's Deja Vu (#14) and Mariah's Touch My Body (#23). #14??? :o :o LMAO! [/quote] yes honey the QUEEN

Would this also be the first instance of a second single hitting #1 before the first single? I mean, TI's first and second single went back and forth at #1 (Whatever You Like and Live Your Life), but ultimately WYL got there first. yes it will be the first time :] let's see if it can happen Paula Abdul's first single flopped - The Way That You Love Me. Then "Straight Up" went to number one. I -think- the first single was re-released after her success and went to #3. I wonder if there are any situations like that out there

After TWTYLM barely grazed the Hot 100, "Straight Up" was released as the third single and sailed to the top. Then "Forever Your Girl" hit #1, as did "Cold-Hearted," then TWTYLM was re-issued and reached #3. "Opposites Attract" was the 6th single, and became her 4th #1.

I thought I remebered "Deja Vu" debuting at #15 in airplay. Not that that's any less impressive.

When I was a baby me and this girl Britney Adams made a dance routine to Opposites Attract.

"Who Knew", following "Stupid Girls", peaked at #118 in the United States. After the massive success of "U + Ur Hand" they re-released it and it made it up to #9

This is pretty exciting week where the #1 spot is anybody's ballgame, usually at this point we already know or at least have an idea who will be on top but this one of the rare weeks where there is no dominant song on both the sales and airplay front (the sales chart toppers lag in airplay and vice versa) to pave way for the songs in between to fight it out on top. If I have to guess I think Only Girl will hit #1 this week with Like A G6 a close second and Raise Your Glass as the darkhorse

Not only that, but Cold Hearted was the B-side (back in the day) of SU. The single, like FYG, TWTYLM and OA, was remixed (adding that bridge) when it was reissued.

Plzzzzzzzz if OG hits #1 she will have four #1s for 2010 yet! :O :O Hoping the stars align for Rihanna to set 3 records with OG this week: First female to land 4 #1's in a chart year First lead female to replace herself at #1 First act to have their first single hit #1 after their second I have a feeling that streaming may give Rihanna the crucial edge.

Just as a note, all these mentions of songs performing as well as or outperforming singles released after so far have all been re-releases.
Only Girl was not re-released! That makes it all the more unique I think.
(I'm not a crazy Rihanna fan but I do think she is talented and I always am intrigued by unusual chart records.)

Though as far as Billboard is concerned, they don't start the week total from scratch when a song falls off the chart. The Macarena for example spent 65 weeks or something on the chart, but with two separate chart runs. That said, for what it's worth, I couldn't find an example of a flop release that went to #1 upon re-release after another hit by the same act went to #1 in the meantime. So, even that technicality doesn't seem to be preventing Rihanna from being the first to do it.

I think either Ke$ha, Rihanna (OG) or Far East Movement's going to be #1. www.billboard.com/news/susan-boyle-tops-billboard-200-glee-reigns-1004126984.story#/news/susan-boyle-tops-billboard-200-glee-reigns-1004126984.storySusan Boyle Tops Billboard 200, 'Glee' Reigns On Digital Songs It's a "Dream" come true: the cast of Fox TV's "Glee" and Susan Boyle rock the top of Billboard's charts this week. "Glee's" cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" was the top selling song in the U.S. last week, as it'll debut at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart with 214,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It marks the ensemble's first No. 1 and biggest sales week yet. Previously, the cast's best week came when its first single, "Don't Stop Believin'," debuted at No. 2 with 177,000 (June 6, 2009). "Teenage Dream," with lead vocals by newly-signed cast member Darren Criss, is sure to make a splashy bow on the Billboard Hot 100 chart once it is unveiled tomorrow (18). So far, "Glee's" best rank on the Hot 100 is also owned by "Don't," which hit No. 4. Last week's No. 1 on Digital Songs, Rihanna's "What's My Name?" (featuring Drake), slides to No. 6 with 152,000 (down 35%). Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" holds at No. 2 (191,000; down 14%) and the Black Eyed Peas' "The Time (Dirty Bit)" debuts at No. 3 (170,000). The aforementioned Perry sees her new single "Firework" spark up two slots to No. 4 (161,000; up 11%), while P!nk's "Raise Your Glass" slips one spot to No. 5 (160,000; up less than 1%).

interesting. Considering OG sold 150k last week, I don't see it dropping to 110-120k that RYG or WRWWR would need to place #1. It looks like it's most likely between G6 & OG.

With those numbers, it's almost impossible for Kesha to be #1. She sold 30,000 more than Pink, and she's lagging like 40.000 in airplay behind. I think it will be between OG and LAG6. (or JTWYA, lol..... it's airplay it's really big compared to the rest.). Also, Glee's TD will be top ten, and as high as #5 or 6.

So, with the sales we know and Mediabase, we've got (keeping in mind it seems BDS is usually higher):
Pink: 160 + 83 = 243 Ke$ha: 191 + 43 = 234 Glee: 214 Rihanna (WMN): 152 + 57 = 209 Katy: 161 + 43 = 204 BEP: 170 + 15 = 185
Rihanna (OG): 114 + ? (needs 130k for #1) Bruno Mars: 140 + ? (needs 104k for #1) Nelly: 109 + ? (needs 135k for #1) FEM: 103 + ? (needs 141k for #1)
It's a real toss-up!

Also looks quite possible that BEP may just miss the top ten if at least one more song beats the 185 pt total (Usher?). I really don't see the song having much of a shot at peaking higher than it does this week.
If BEP doesn't hit the top 10 with "The Time" I wouldn't hesitate to call it a flop. 26 weeks at #1 one year, not even able to make the top ten the next year with a new album? That's a flop. It's a shame too, they do some interesting stuff, but I just think they missed the mark this time.
