Well, I find that different radio formats in Canada do not play their format specifically. For example:
CHR Alright for the most part. Should play more pop/rock. Tends to be very similar to CHR in the US and sometimes catches on to new music late.
Hot AC Basically the same as Canadian CHR. A lot of the ballads on HAC in the US chart in the 30's and 40s here in Canada.
Active rock & Alternative Plays alot of alt on active and alot of active on alt. These radio stations need to adjust their playlists and/or change their format.
What do you think?

CHR is a mess. I want less pop rock and less CanCon.

CHRAlright for the most part. Should play more pop/rock. Tends to be very similar to CHR in the US and sometimes catches on to new music late. Actually, I think Pop is in the right direction, but that might be because both my stations are pop/rock-leaning. Hot ACBasically the same as Canadian CHR. A lot of the ballads on HAC in the US chart in the 30's and 40s here in Canada. Hot AC is bizarre to listen to. It's basically all Pop currents, as you said, mixed with random 70s songs. I understand smaller markets don't have a Pop station, but it needs a clearer direction. Active rock & AlternativePlays alot of alt on active and alot of active on alt. These radio stations need to adjust their playlists and/or change their format. This. My rock station sounds more like an Alt. Which is fine, but hard rock and metal are too ignored.

Agreed, but we do lean towards the U.S. stations, sometimes we catch on to new US artists late, and we don't have Daughtry being played much on Canadian pop radio this era as much as last era. (< ex.) Hot AC basically = CHR AC basically = Hot AC (US) Agreeing alot with your statement on rock radio too. If you look on americasmusiccharts.com, you can see how messed up Canadian rock stations are. >:(
