Yay love that Pink got a #1... next week, Katy Perry I hope! Three #1's off the same album in one year.. Who did that last?

It's nice to see many songs hitting #1 but on the other hand, this doesn't allow individual songs to achieve any legendary chart achievements.. All #1's this year pretty much go to category of "just another #1".

This year the focus has been on artists: Rihanna and Katy Perry who have collected or will collect 3 or more #1's, Glee with their huge no. of chart entries etc.

At the same time the biggest song of the year is a non-#1 (Need You Now).

Not LG, she only had 2 #1s, but otherwise, correct.

Awesome news!!! This is the most exciting Hot 100 moment of the year (for me).

Which other songs have gone to #1 on the Hot 100 that are from a hits collection? The only ones I can think of are "Justify My Love", "You Are Not Alone", "Check On It" and "3", although I'm sure there are a lot more.

MC had 4 #1's from one single album, and 3 #1's on another. :'(

You couldn't purchase them separately at the time. So technically it was a greatest hits album with new tracks....like any other greatest hits album with new tracks.

The top 10 looks a lot more refreshed with the new #1s and old songs falling out. Now if Like a G6 and Just a Dream can drop out, those songs are kinda annoying now haha.

Plus, this high turnover definitely cancels out the stronghold that the Black Eyed Peas had last year. I prefer this over 12 week #1's. Records are not only achieved by weeks at #1 so the high turnover shouldn't matter that much in those regards.

Personally, I love seeing this much turnover at the top of the Hot 100. It's more exciting to watch, for one thing, and it also suggests that there are just more songs out there that are really breaking through. A little variety is always nice!

When the Hot 100 has higher turnover, it's also much easier for artists to snag three number one off a single album in a year. Here are some that did it in the 80s, when it was common to have 30+ number ones in a year:

* George Michael did it in 1988 with "Father Figure," "One More Try," and "Monkey," which were all off the "Faith" album. (And the song "Faith" was #1 in 1987.)

* Paula Abdul did it in 1989 with "Straight Up," "Forever Your Girl," and "Cold Hearted," which were all from "Forever Your Girl." (That album's "Opposites Attract" hit #1 in 1990)

* Milli Vanilli (oh, them!) did it in 1989 with "Baby Don't You Lose My Number," "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" and "Blame It On the Rain," all from the album "Girl You Know It's True."

60% of the top ten has hit #1. If Firework does it next week (and none of those #1s fall out) it'll be 70%.

I still feel like none of these songs is particularly standing out as a super-memorable hit though.

I love Only Girl but I dont know if that has radio longevity. Hell I don't even hear Rude Boy anymore. And in two years time, will Like A G6 just be known as that one hit wonder from FEM? I could see Bruno Mars' JTWYA being an AC favorite and having longevity there, as for the rest, I doubt they'd be playing on the radio much one year from now.

Yes- it's just that MJ's HIStory Continues contained a heckuva lot more new tracks than most GH collections have. :)

br, there have been a lot of No. 1 tracks don't end up as super-memorable hits- welcome to the charts. :) "Raise Your Glass" grew on me- I like it a lot now.

You forgot Michael and Janet. Mike had five no.1s from "Bad" in 1987 and Janet had four no.1s from "Rhythm Nation"in 1990.

Whitney Houston - with "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)", "Didn't We Almost Have It All"(both #1 in 1987), "So Emotional" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go"(in 1988) (from my personal favorite "Whitney" album)...

and "Its first four singles[from "Whitney"] all peaked at #1 making her the first female artist to achieve that feat. In addition, along with three straight number one singles from the debut album, those of which that established an unprecedented seven consecutive number one hits by a performer, surpassing the Beatles and the Bee Gees."

only girl might drop quickly b/c of WMN and WTC rising. FEM has a solid second single, very good; i just hope radio will support it.
