I read on ATRL that JTWYA could possibly go back to number one if the sales are consistent? It has still has that MASSIVE airplay lead :o Has any other song been knocked off the top spot and come back after such a long period?

The ultimate example is "The Twist" which hit number one on two separate chart runs roughly a year or so apart. More recently, I think "Live Your Life" was knocked out of #1 for a month before returning.

I'm not going to go back and read pettiness but I haven't sensed a high level of Rihanna hate. I personally am neutral towards her; some of her songs are catchy, and her album sales make sense given her overall quality.

It's funny how Rihanna has now become the most hated artist on this board. I like Rihanna and most of her singles (don't own any albums, as seems to be the case for a lot of people), but it's her fans that really rub me the wrong way. That may be the case for other posters on this board too, hence the negativity toward her. Do I want to see Rihanna succeed? YES. Do I want to read over-the-top posts about her from fans in EVERY thread? NO. It's such a turn-off.

And I actually am an Eminem fan and DO own some of his albums, but it's just too much.

This is an example of a re-release though. JTWYA is still in its original chart run, and if it returns to #1, it would have had a 6-week interruption. "Live Your Life" had a three-week interruption. (4 weeks total interruption since it rebounded twice.) FEM had a 2-week interruption. Nelly's Dilemma in 2002 had a 2-week interruption. Alicia Keys' Fallin' and J.Lo's I'm Real both had a 3-week interruption in 2001 when they see-sawed all summer at the top. Boyz II Men had a 2-week interruption in 1993 with On Bended Knee.

Let her have her success, but don't put her name next to Janet, Madonna, or Mariah. It just doesn't belong there.

diego, do you compile this info yourself? Any chance of getting or requesting numbers for other holiday tracks that get significant airplay? Like Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree,' Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song,' "Bobby Helm' "Jingle Bell Rock,' "Burl Ives' "Holly Jolly Christmas," etc.? Thanks.

Any one who achieves certain chart records could be called "legends"- but, for some, it may be "chart legend," as records go down in the record books. Obviously, Rihanna isn't an artistic legend (a few well-received singles, though), and doesn't rate as well as someone like Mimi as an artist- just as Mimi usually isn't thought of in the same league as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elvis, Beatles, etc. But, they're all "chart legends." :)
I just noticed that Enrique Iglesias now is teamed with Ludacris? Where's Ricky martin when ya need him? (not that he's that great, either, but...)

I'm just keeping things in perspective, darling. I knew you'd like that. ;)
Wonder why "Oh Santa" hasn't been part of the updates. Surely it's registering larger gains than it had been seeing. What was the last new holiday track to receiver decent airplay, anyhow? 98 Degrees' "This Gift" peaked at No. 49 on the Hot 100 on airplay alone (I just fixed the Wikipedia page that showed "This Gift" as peaking at No. 20). Then again, 98 Degrees didn't have an existing holiday classic of its own to compete with. Faith Hill's "Where Are You Christmas' (which Mimi co-penned) charted for a week at No. 65 in January 2001.

It's possible it could chart for a week, but I'm not sure how likely it is. The song is doing very well on the AC chart right now - #20, second greatest gainer, and most # of stations actually spinning it out of any other song on the current chart. It would be wild if Bruno took back the #1 spot this week after a 6-week absence and 3 other #1 songs. Although it would be nice for Pink to get another #1 even though I think RYG pales in comparison to most of her other work. Also, I really hope BEP's new single never hits #1. I do wish them all the success in the world, I just don't want them to feel inspired to make more trash like "The Time" again. What the hell is the dirty bit anyway? The song just makes no sense lyrically or structurally!

I think RYG has it this week, then possibly Fireworks next week if the sales and airplay continue to increase. Then I think the top spot will be a tug of war between WRWWR and WMN? WRWWR will have the sales, but I believe WMN? will have the airplay advantage. I expect those two songs to go back and forth at least through the new year.

Why are some many people referring to the current Katy Perry single in the plural?
A number of people around me, on separate occasions this holiday weekend, called it "Fireworks" instead of "Firework."

I think it's because people typically don't often use Firework in it's singular form. "Let's go buy a firework" "We are gonna shoot and watch a firework". lol
