Debut single from the New Zealand rock band The Naked and Famous. This reached #1 in their homeland and I wouldn't be at all suprised if this attracted some major airplay on Alternative radio. Sounds very much like what MGMT were doing before their last album.
Goes for adds January 25th.

This is an incredible song, as is their followup single "Punching In A Dream". At best, this will do how Passion Pit's singles have done on this format.

I expect this to do better than the Passion Pit singles. The support of a major label in Universal should be the edge between the two bands.

With MGMT's last album not doing much I feel like this song will fill the void. Could do pretty decent. Especially with a big label behind it.

Streamed this from All Access tonight, since it hit the Top 50, and was pleasantly surprised. To my amateurish ears, and to parrot what other people have said already, my two main reference points are Passion Pit and the first MGMT record.

I actually like this quite a bit, which is surprising considering how much I don't like most indie bands. The first few times I heard it, I could have sworn it was MGMT. I think they're on tour with them now actually, so that would make sense.

Album is top notch beginning to end. Love this song and glad that they are releasing in a time when this would actually get notice. 5 years ago and this fades to obscurity.

If anything, I always thought these bands' vocals sounded like a children's chorus. Which honestly is part of the reason I've had a hard time getting into Passion Pit and TN&F. Didn't affect me as much with MGMT's earlier singles, perhaps because the vocals were a little deeper, or because the lyrics were easier to decipher. That said, this song has grown on me a bit. |
