How has she created an artificial identity? such a stupid debate, can we focus just on the charts

I think my biggest beef with Kesha's song is that it seems really disingenuous to sing about being who you are when she has clearly worked so hard to create an artificial persona. But I guess that fits under "choosing" an identity. Except equating that with being gay is also odd, since that is not a choice like covering yourself with dirt is a choice. Do you know Kesha personally? How do you know she's created "an artificial persona"?

Pretty much every pop star is creating an artificial persona. For that matter, pretty much every 22 year old is too. And since I don't know anyone who covers themselves in dirt and wears trash bag dresses I'd have to say she is definitely creating a persona.

Looks like this is going to be a self replacement at #1 :'( Is Pink peaking or is it because Riri is outgaining her by a little.

Mariah's "Oh Santa!" goes to #1 on the A/C chart - first #1 since 1995 on the A/C chart!
VIA Mediabase:
"Oh Santa!" crowns the AC Airplay Chart
Christmas' Queen Mariah Carey reaches the summit of the AC Mediabase Airplay Chart by logging her fresh hit "Oh Santa!" with 839 spins in a 7 day-period. icon_biggrin.gif
A #1 AC is what she really needs ATM. You better have a little but effective AC audience by your side than a Top 40 Mainstream Song listened by teenagers that won't buy her record. Both the single and the album are doing fine.
Mimi has had six No. 1 hits on Billboard's AC chart prior to "Oh Santa." They are:
Vision of Love Love Takes time i Don't Wanna Cry Can't Let Go I'll Be There One Sweet Day

That appears to have a screen shot of the all stations panel, not the published panel. On the published chart, she'll be #2 this week. Probably #1 soon.

Wow, when was the last time a single artist occupied the #1 and #2 spot on airplay?

I'm sick of this high turnover rate on the Hot 100 right now. The #1 spot doesn't seem as prestigious when this happens. I just want a song to get to #1 and stay there for awhile.

^Prestigious? It's a popularity chart. You would have loved following the charts in the pre-BDS/-SoundScan era, when there were 25-35 No. 1 hits in a year. :)
Debuting at No. 12 last week, Mimi indeed could shoot 12-1 when Billboard announces highlights from the new chart (airplay period that ends tonight).

Wow, when was the last time a single artist occupied the #1 and #2 spot on airplay? We Belong Together and Shake It Off? T.I.'s Live Your Life replaced Whatever You Like. Not sure if they held 1 & 2 at anytime, though.

Are we talking about genre charts or Hot 100 airplay?

if you're not talking about just "one" artist, how bout Outkast? "The Way You Me" was #2 during "Hey Ya's" run at #1? It must have completely blocked it on airplay then, which is unfortunate. 50 Cent, Usher, Mariah, T.I., Ja Rule, & Nelly are the only artists to have replaced themselves at #1 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart this past decade...going in to the new decade...? Where'd Gwen/Akon "The Sweet Escape" peak on overall airplay? It was probably pretty high when "Don't Matter" was #1.

Love the high turnover! Reminds me of the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s and early '90s! While I am too young to actually remember those days I definitely have to agree with you. I always liked the high turnover when checking old chart records.

I don't see how Michael Jackson is gaining in airplay yet faultering on Pop Radio. Because it's being played on formats other than Pop?

^Yes. Urban AC, most notably. It's giving the track decent spins.
