Impressive for Gaga considering she's been out of the spotlight for a while. Also surprising to see Linkin Park that high up there.

Where in the world is Mariah Carey? No Mariah, No Madonna, No Whitney. Maybe these girls just aren't relevant in today's music scene....just like Janet.

Kinda surprised to not see Britney on it anywhere. I mean, I know she's not active but it always seems like she has a strong growing online community / presence all the time.

I'd like to see a more specific breakdown of how this list was made. For example, Girl Talk is at #36 but only has 2,500 followers on Twitter, 162,000 followers on Facebook, and 71,000 friends of MySpace, considerably lower than many other musicians who didn't make the list. I realize those aren't the only three social networking sites out there, but they are three of the biggest, so seems strange that they would rank so high. Where in the world is Mariah Carey? No Mariah, No Madonna, No Whitney. Maybe these girls just aren't relevant in today's music scene....just like Janet. I know I'm going to sound like a stan when I say this, but it seems bizarre than Mariah didn't make this list. She's one of the most followed on Twitter (3.5 million followers), she's got over 200 million plays and 740,000 friends on MySpace, and she also has 2.7 million fans on Facebook. What gives?

It's measuring weekly ADDITIONS and views and plays.
If you had 5,000,000 fans last week and 5,001,000 fans this week, you will rank lower than someone who went from 40,000 fans to 50,000 fans.
If it was only measuring total accumulation the list would almost never change.
I'd like a list like this that is down to a song-level, though...

Not a fan of this chart but nice to see Katy & Ke$ha in the top 10! And Beyowulf #20 even on her break :)

Thank you to those who pointed out that it's about additions. I didn't realize this was a new weekly list as opposed to a one-off list that Billboard often does. I agree it is more interesting as a weekly list if they only measure additions/plays in one week.

This is boring no one can gain at a certain pace forever. NEXT! This is another version of the heat seekers chart.

Don't really get the point with this but each on their own
Does this means that the artists that are the most active in social media do well here?
Who's Christina Grimmie?

Does this means that the artists that are the most active in social media do well here? Apparently not. It seems to me that artists who increase their social media popularity/activity the most are the ones on this chart. So you could technically be one of the most active in social media but if you're not gaining fans and friends you don't show up on this chart. It's more of a buzz chart.

I think this chart is truly pointless.
