Was listening to the new Promo Only this morning and this came up. I had never heard anything from this band before, nor have I heard of Cady Groves. But I am a little more familiar with old Dashboard Confessional. Are these guys trying to sound just like them?

They had a huge pop hit, "Fall For You", in 2008 I think. Other than that, I have never heard anything from either of these guys before.

Secondhand Serenade is the solo project of John Veselly (probably spelled that wrong...). So far he's released three albums. I think that one of the singles from his debut cracked the Alt chart, but I can't be sure.

I had never heard anything from this band before That's cause Secondhand Serenade is pop (or post-punk pop I guess, or whatever you call We The Kings, Boys Like Girls, etc.) - they def. don't have Alternative creds

I guess that explains why I've never heard their music. But I guess they're striving for "Alternative creds" with a track on Promo Only Modern. And if Dashboard Confessional was able to score a handful of top 40 Modern hits, I don't see why this can't. Just way too similar to sound original in my opinion.
