I hate that everything is falling into place for a comeback (personality, producers, public opinion) except for her not being able to get it together style-wise. Like, tonight was indefensible and I am someone who tries to give her a break since I figure she has body image problems.
I totally called it when I said she would look totally gross after looking cute for the rehearsal.

We're all used to people complaining about her voice. It's nothing new. Her styling tonight is unacceptable, though. She isn't fat by any means, but she doesn't have the body right now to pull off an outfit like that. She needs to leave the unitards to Britney and GaGa and start wearing more flattering clothing.

Not impressed with the 'Lady Marmalade' performance. She's still a great singer, obviously, but her voice has weakened a lot since she originally recorded that song ten years ago.

I don't think anyone really looks good in unitards/leotards. I don't get why everyone is so into them. I don't even think Britney looks good in them. Christina would look so much hotter in just a pair of pants or a longer flowy dress. I have already ranted about how I want Britney to dress in another topic lol.

She didn't sound as terrible as I expected, but that isn't saying much. Pretty much just +1 to what neally said. I'm just glad she didn't crack like she's done plenty times before on the song.

She spray tans. It may eventually work in her favor because when you can see her skin beneath the tons of makeup it is pretty smooth and young and clear. It will look healthier than someone who fake bakes or actually gets sun.
On twitter, I am seeing nothing but good remarks about her vocal performance-maybe her personality is winning people over so they are overlooking some things LOL.

I know this isn't the right thread but the singers on this show suck big time for the most part. There are a couple of exceptions but as much as I hate AI anymore they are not any better. They are worse.

In spite of the Bionic disaster, Christina has a lot of good will regarding her voice. The public isn't nearly as attune to vocal intricacies and often times will judge based on reputation and what they hear in the media, and the general public probably still believes that Christina has the best voice out there because she's been cleverly marketed as such for a long time (and, for a long time, she had the goods to back it up, but her voice has definitely shown some wear and tear in the last few years).

I still think she can outsing most pop stars out there today, but that may just be personal. Like, Pulse worship performances where the person is off-key for 90% of the performance and I never get it. I guess I just look for different things in performances and I would rather Christina sound a bit raspy than off-key and off-beat for the entire performance. Kelly and Christina are still my fav pop voices though I do have others that I like for the type of music they make. TeamChristina, Lady Marmalade, and Xtina are all trending with loads of positive comments  |

Yeah, Christina is still definitely in the top tier of female pop vocalists today, even not at her best. She has a great voice, but I don't believe it is currently at the level that the general public and media seem to give her rather blind credit for. There are others I believe to be better, which is not at all to say she is bad.

Saying she's in the top tier of female pop vocalists today really isn't staying much tbh. Over ten years in the business, and she's still not using her voice correctly.
She may 'outsing' many, but her tonal quality is often unbearable (live of course) and belting lacks control.

I love her tone most of the time, but then again that is very personal. I know people who hate the tones of pretty much every singer out there including some of the best in existence. It just doesn't bother me like it bothers other people for some reason. I tend to like abrasive voices though (Adam Levine, Modest Mouse's lead singer, Jack White, Janis Joplin, some of the big voiced classic divas who trademarked screaming-sorry Christina, etc).
I mean, some performances are definitely a bit off, but some sound great to me that people charge in and say she sounded "un-listenable" lol.
I do like that she changed it up with Bionic and held it back a bit more. I feel like the people who claim she shrieks through every song ever should like certain songs on that cd. Very restrained at points.

Yeah Madonna does do it better than most. She started the no pants trend in my opinion!  I cannot get over how big she looks in especially that first performance. It would have looked a million times better if she just threw on a pair of pants or...hell, even a skirt or shorts. |
