When was the last time someone had two songs as a lead artist at over 100 million AI? Or the last time someone replaced themselves at #1 in airplay?

Otherwise, Only Girl/What's Your Name won't count since What's Your Name features Drake.

I can't believe that Stereo Love is exploding (both on AI and Itunes). Very well deserved (even tho it was huge in my own country like ages ago).... the accordion part is excellent.... the whole song is eurodance done right.

^RiRi obviously doesn't have the vocal abilities of Mimi, but she's enjoying radio success as Mimi did and she's certainly rivaling her in terms of output (five albums in five years; counting her Christmas album, Mimi also had five albums of new material released from 1990-1995).

i don't wanna discuss about Riri and Mimi Mimi is an artist but Riri isn't...don't say more (i don't wanna teenagers get mad of me)
But where are the balads on the charts recent years??? it's like listen the same tempo the last 4-5 years? This year for example on the year-end chart Hot 100 we have : Need you now(2) and the next is Two is better than one (72) That's the results when Billboard give power to the teens (mean Itunes)

It's amazing how much airplay R&B songs can get R&B airplay peaked in 2004/2005. Nowadays R&B songs get lesser and lesser play due to Pop radio snubbing most of them.

But today, Rihanna is stronger on single sales than album sales, even she's a stronger single seller than Mariah at that time. Today, Rihanna is also as strong as Mariah at that time in term on airplay. That's why, i think Rihanna can score more #1s easier and may catch on Mariah.

Ballads just aren't popular lately.

I dont like when people say anyone is the "new" anyone else". Rihanna is Rihanna. BUT if we had to compare her success has been more comparable to Janets in my opinion. Janet could have hit after hit after hit and her singles sold really well but she wasnt having diamond selling albums like a lot of other acts with that kind of single success.

Janet was always known as a singles artist. Here highest selling album in at 6mm compared to her peers Mariah, Whiteny, Celine, Madonna whom all had multiple +10mm albums without having 7 top 5 singals, etc.

Rihanna is stronger on single sales than album sales, even she's a stronger single seller than Mariah at that time. I don't see how rihanna's singles are selling more than mariah's? Hit singles in 90's were selling 500k, nowdays any average hit sells 2m. Numbers just inflated.

I don't think Chatoyant was comparing Mimi & Riri's artistic ability but rather their chart success (more specifically singles) which I think is a justifiable comparison

Janet's album sales were nothing to sneeze at and actually several of Janet's albums are undercertified by the RIAA. According to wikipedia these albums are undercertified Rhythm Nation 9 million sold (14 million ww) 6x platinum janet. 10 million sold (20 million ww) 6x platinum All For You 3.2 million sold (10 million ww) 2x platinum

If 2 million means hit, that means we lost Adam and Kris's most successful singles, both id say were hits.

Also everyone needs to realize that albums sales are not what they use to be. Rihanna was never in an era where just about any album with decent hits could easily go platinum and the mega stars could get multi-platinum and even diamond certifications.
In the 90s, several acts made platinum albums, but were still dropped. Nowadays, if an artist manages to go just platinum it is considered a huge feat and thus the record labels continue to push the artist.
Even though Rihanna isn't an albums artists, her albums at least go platinum and I'm sure she makes up for it in singles sales. She was the digitals track artist for the last decade according the billboard and she was only out for half the decade.
