January 25, 2011impacting songs Rihanna (IDJMG) S&M pr00fyou ready? hmm isn't it kinda early? I think Mid/Late February or even early March would do it, WMN is still smashing and OG is still Top10 But this will smash regardless of the adds date

Even though the first two singles are doing well, I think as far as her album sales go, it's time for a new single.

Well her label was hailing this album as her Thriller, so if they continue with that, 6-7 singles should happen. Wow. What an insult to Thriller. I like this, but I don't see anything else from the album being a hit. CKB and Cheers are dreadful. I am so disappointed in the album. The only other songs from the album I like are Raining Men and Man Down, but I don't see either of those being hits. I think a re-release or new album is her best bet. This project was just so forced and rushed. i think momentum from LTWYL OG WMN S&M WTC and AOTL would be enough to carry a 4th single from this project to be at least a minor hit that peaks in the 20's, and sells gold. Now if the song is good enough it could peak much higher To the other poster, while i do think its a little early for adds, ive gotten over the fact that she has so many songs at radio right now. As long as Fly isnt released soon, i think she ll be fine as long as she waits a while b4 releasign the 4th and hopefully last single

i dont think that was the problem. it worked like telephone & romance and did great. but then they released all of the lights, whos that chick, and S&m is gaining while WMN and OG are still top 10. thank god fly wasnt released Just "Only Girl (In the World)" and "What's My Name?" would be fine. We've seen that before, and even though "What's My Name?" started only a couple of weeks after "Only Girl (In the World)," they're both doing extremely well - "Only Girl (In the World)" spent 3 weeks atop and is having amazing longevity, and "What's My Name?" looks to be a multi-format #1 smash. They are fine together. However, the label is trying to already start on "S&M," when "What's My Name?" is still far from peaking, and "Only Girl (In the World)" is still top ten. They should be waiting much longer on it, if they don't want to hurt her current two smashes. And in addition to that, she has her semi-singles, "Who's that Chick?" and "All of the Lights" starting up, plus a lot of recurrent play, particularly on "Love the Way You Lie." This is the problem. They should realize that time off is okay. They could've spent a little more time on "LOUD" to include one extra smash, and then waited for "Only Girl (In the World)" to be top three to adds-date "What's My Name?". Then the same for "S&M," giving an adds date of maybe May. (Remembering that in this case scenario, "Only Girl (In the World)" would be much lower by now than it actually is). "Who's that Chick?" - they should've waited a bit longer, but since it's not a Rihanna single anyway, it's not that big a deal, but still a longer gap would have been better for her and for "Memories." "All of the Lights" - I can't say they should've waited longer, since this is the first legit. (to be) hit off his album, but still, it's too much Rihanna. What they probably should've done is just persisted with "Runaway," "Power" or something else. "Love the Way You Lie" - They should've found a way to kill it off earlier, so that Rihanna has less recurrent play and therefore more room to grow. Either releasing a very strong third single and/or promoting the hell out of "No Love" to help it drop, or just doing some kind of anti-payola. Or, just postponed everything to wait for LTWYL to die naturally. i think releasing OG & WMN together was brilliant. Great Choice. I dont think WTC affected Memories or vice versa, and the release was fine. Good Choice Kanye could really use a big hit off his current album, so releasing all of the lights now is smart. Great Choice. S&M was released too early, and shouldve been released when OG went recurrent. Bad Choice LTWYL was a total smash, and there shouldve been no "anti-payola" that you suggest. Good Choice S&M is the song that shouldve been waited on. Regardless S&M should be on the hot 100 in a few weeks. Giving her 5 songs on it.

A fourth rihanna single only going top 20 and gold? Idk..Even Rockstar did the later & this time we're coming off 2 #1's and a near-guaranteed top 10 at least. Not to mention the material that's being placed in consideration for Rihanna's following singles is in the vein of everything that's been a big hit for previously.
Cheers is a top 10 easily with a proper push, it's even been pegged as the biggest song of the album by a few label heads. If Fading were released after those 2, easily a top 20. Classic Rihanna midtempo - very catchy.
Also there's something else in the works for later this year....The label will not be satisfied with a top 10 and a top 20 that goes gold.

It may be a bit early to release this, but I'm sure it'll still manage to do just fine.

what are you referring to when you mean 'sell gold'? you mean this or the next single or the album? cause the album has already sold 813.000 copiesin just 9 weeks.

I don't think it's early at all. "What's My Name?" is peaking on pop, and "S&M" is increasing on iTunes, where it is already top 100 and closing in on the top 80. I think it's the perfect time to release it.

It looks like it's already peaking, to be honest. As for AOTL, it's more Kanye than Rihanna, so I don't see S&M hurting it or it hurting S&M.

WTC may not be dead yet, it might be waiting for OG and WMN to start falling harder I actually doubt that. Even though Rihanna is on it, it's still labeled as a David Guetta song. It's the same thing as Carry Out/If We Ever Meet Again a few months ago. He released both of them near each other thinking radio would treat them as JT and KP songs, but they ended up treating them as both Timbaland songs, and IWEMA got hurt because of that. AOTL is also labeled as a Kanye song, so radio isn't going to care there either. Same goes for LTWYL, it's labeled as an Eminem song. Radio doesn't care about the features. It's the official labels they care about. OG is falling quickly. VERY quickly, so there's no reason why WMN would be waiting for OG. Especially since we've had certain events in the past where that didn't affect anything. Seriously S&M is fine releasing now. WTC wasn't going to be a hit anyway unless it was promoted hard. I highly doubt AOTL is going to do much on pop either.

However, IMO, put together, that just doesn't work. Like Au$tin said, radio will usually look at the official artist, not the featured artist. So "Memories" and "Who's that Chick?" are by the same artist. They still didn't hurt each other too much, they are different and neither was big, but still, they are both David Guetta songs, so they should've waited a little longer in case radio was dropping one for the other. I agree. It's a good time for "All of the Lights" - if you don't count all the other Rihanna currently in rotation/gaining spins. Kanye's album has been out for a while now, and nothing has done well on pop. "All of the Lights" is the best chance for a hit on the album. It has Rihanna. Everything good. But with so much other Rihanna at the moment, they should've continued to persist with something non-Rihanna, and then maybe in four months, "Who's that Chick?," "Love the Way You Lie" and "Only Girl (In the World)" will be reasonably low, so it'll have more of a chance. Yes, it is a Kanye song not a Rihanna song, but still, waiting gives it a better chance. Yes. "Love the Way You Lie" was, and still is, massive. Which is good for it. Radio are not going to drop it, just like the "Airplanes"/"Magic" situation, it will continue going down slowly unless there's a big "anti-push," or an amazing third single (or an amazingly promoted third single). There's not much to hurt it. Which means, it's basically got itself a % of Rihanna play, which means that new, starting, "to-be-hit" Rihanna songs are hurt. Yes, it is an Eminem song, but it's well known for Rihanna's featuring, most people would think of it as Eminem with/and/featuring/whatever Rihanna, after all its success. So basically, they should've postponed the whole "LOUD" project, to wait for this to leave. Yes, "S&M" should have been waited on. Without the existence of "S&M," there wouldn't be too much problem; "What's My Name?" climbing, "Only Girl" dropping slower, "Who's that Chick?"/ "All of the Lights" doing better, etc. Then they can start "S&M" in a few months and by then, "Who's that Chick?" and "All of the Lights" will probably be dead - let's face it; they're not massive to-be's, and "What's My Name?" will be falling, "Only Girl" might be in the lower 20's, and "Love the Way You Lie" will be lower too. Urgh, I feel like I've said this a million times. I should leave this thread.

A single can only have so much mileage as far as impacting album sales goes. That's the point of a single. Both WMN and OG have been in rotation for a good few months now, so regardless of any of other songs Rihanna's featured on that are impacting, as far as Loud is concerned, it's time to move on.
