Over on the Digital Songs chart this week, Bruno Mars' "Grenade" moves 2-1, hitting the top of the list for the first time (212,000; up 14%), displacing Katy Perry's "Firework," which falls to No. 2 with 192,000 (down 5%). Lil Wayne's "6 Foot 7 Foot" (featuring Cory Gunz) bounds in at No. 3 in its first week, with 166,000. Aside from Wayne, the only other new title amongst the top 10 is Enrique Iglesias' "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)," which climbs three rungs to No. 9 with 109,000 (up 30%).
Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.18 million downloads, up 3% compared to last week (20.47 million) and up 6% stacked next to the comparable week of 2009 (19.90 million). Year to date track sales are at 1.086 billion, up 1% compared to the same total at this point last year (1.077 billion).

OMG, I didn't realize the AI for 'Firework' is so high already. :o Last time I checked it was still at the 80mil+ AI range.

Might Grenade end up the Xmas #1?
Interesting that the advent of digital sales has started to make the Christmas #1 more important like it is in the UK.

From Paul Grein's Chart Watch blog:
Bruno Mars' "Grenade" jumps to #1 on Hot Digital Songs. It sold 212,000 copies this week, bringing its 12-week total to 1,077,000. "Grenade" is Mars' third #1 hit of the year on the digital chart, following B.o.B's "Nothin' On You" (on which he was featured) and his own "Just The Way You Are." Mars is one of only four artists (and the only man) to land three #1 hits on Hot Digital Songs so far this year. He follows Katy Perry, Rihanna and Taylor Swift.
Here's the rest of the top 10 on Hot Digital Songs, per Nielsen SoundScan. Katy Perry's "Firework" dips from #1 to #2 (192K). Lil Wayne featuring Cory Gunz's "6'7"" debuts at #3 (166K). The Black Eyed Peas' "The Time (Dirty Bit)" dips from #3 to #4 (147K). Rihanna featuring Drake's "What's My Name?" dips from #4 to #5 (141K). Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" holds at #6 for the third week (134K). P!nk's "Raise Your Glass" drops from #5 to #7 (130K). Wiz Khalifa's "Black & Yellow" dips from #7 to #8 (122K). Enrique Iglesias featuring Ludacris' "Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)" jumps from #12 to #9 (109K). Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj's "Bottoms Up" dips from #9 to #10 (99K).
John & Yoko's 1971 classic "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" and the Beach Boys' 1963 classic "Little Saint Nick" both jumped into the top 30 this week on Nielsen SoundScan's list of the top-selling holiday songs in digital history. I wrote this up as a blog a few weeks ago. I just updated the list (again). All the tallies are as current as this week's charts.
Quiz Answers: 36 Christmas songs are listed on this week's Top Digital Songs chart. 44 Christmas albums are listed on The Billboard 200. (How'd you do?)

why are we still wasting time on this? i know someone thinks it's funny, but i'd rather see updates for songs that are actually on the radio (e.g., "kush" by dr. dre)

the fact a new #1 hasn't been mentioned today means Firework is #1 again! i think Firework has the potential to be #1 for many weeks to come, if airplay keeps skyrocketing the way it is and sales remain consistant. Seriously, this can potentially outlast California Gurls 6 weeks at #1. I think she already has week 4 on lock. And if airplay keeps rising, and doubling everybody, who is her competition in the next couple weeks? The 2 that ARE threats aren't really blowing her away. What a fun time!

Boy, talk about JUST creeping onto the chart there, "Oh Santa!" hehe
It is Mimi Carey's 43rd Hot 100 entry (of which 33 have cracked the top half of the chart- also the top 40, as she's had none peak in the 41-50 range). And, the second consecutive Hot 100 entry to debut (and likely peak) at 100.

It's prerequisite of me to qualify some posts, so here goes. OS was at No. 6 bubbling under last week, and it did reach its peak at iTunes last week, while airplay remained steady (compared to a week prior). Plus, it's No. 1 at Yahoo! Videos, which helps with streaming. So that may have made the difference in it reaching the bottom of the chart. So, the holiday tracks to chart on the Hot 100 for the 2010 season: Christmas Lights, Coldplay (new track) No. 25 Baby It's Cold Outside, Glee Cast No. 57 Welcome Christmas, Glee Cast: No. 59 Boots, The Killers (new track) No. 79 Oh Santa! Mariah Carey (new track) No. 100

I know...I stated it long ago that it would have a longer stay at #1 but then thought Grenade and WMN would be threats. I think if Grenade doesn't pull something with the itunes gift cards then firework will reign supreme.

I can't believe 'Firework' has already spent more weeks at #1 than 'Teenage Dream' did. The performance of this song has by far exceeded my expectations. Five consecutive #1's with the release of E.T. and LFN? I think yes.
